08th MS Team is by far the best one, the others are barely comparable. It is very realistic and doesn't have god mode main characters.

Gundam Wing has been the most well received, modern rendition of it and one of my favorites. My personal favorite series is Gundam 8th MS team since it is a much more real and gritty series with a nice animation style. I also loved G Gundam but it was because it is a great blend of terribly cheesy moments (and voice acting) mixed in with very eipc moments and give you goose bumps (with the help of a fantastic music score and lead voice actor). There are several other series that have received praise and a large fanbase (such as the original) but many are dated. I have only seen a little bit of the series that have come out since the Wing series but I thought they became a bit more drama based and it wasn't really style. If you do decide to watch the Wing series DO NOT start with the movie because it is a wrap up of everything that happened (although I did enjoy that movie).

some of the gundam series are related (the original, zeta, etc)

there's different time eras for all of them. I think UC is the main one. These started way back in the 80s.

Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed - Gundam Seed Destiny, G Gundam, and Gundam 00 (what this picture is from) are all their own seperate stories and unrelated to each other and the main one. I haven't seen all of them, but some gundams are different.

For example, G Gundam is ******* insane as it is mostly about martial arts but with giant robots and the plot is utterly ridiculous but in a good way. It's one of the early Gundam series tho, so enjoy the 80s goodness. The other gundams I mentioned are more serious.

Wing is extremely popular in the states due to nostalgia factor from toonami and cause it kicks ass. Seed might be less popular, but I thought it was alright (though Destiny kinda sucks). Both seasons of 00 kick ass, but don't bother watching that movie that goes with it. It's total **** .

Wing was glorious, and it ended in a movie.

Start with either Gundam Wing or the Original (Mobile Suit Gundam) And then move on to Zeta Gundam. Then if you liked all those you can watch something like Gundam 00 or Seed, But Gundam Wing and Gundam Zeta are usually considered the best. (They arent related chronologically at all, Wing takes place in its own time line and Zeta is the Sequel to the original)

I recommend Gundam Wing to start you off; the series is usually quoted as being what gets many people INTO the series.

Can anyone tell me what this is I used to watch? It was on Toonami, and my memories suck so hopefully it makes sense. There's a dude in a gundam with like a thorn whip, and these two guys fight on red scaffoldings of like a construciton site. And I think it's a tourny of some kind.

Was the gundam itself crimson/dark red? Did it have wings? If so, it's Epyon, from Gundam Wing.

G Gundam, possibly.

I'd recommend either Gundam 00 or Gundam SEED, they probably aren't the best series but they are the easiest to get into for new viewers. Hope that helps
