Why?! Why would he do such a horrible thing?! Doesn't he know pre-ordering is just a scam?

Can't get the full $64 ( After tax ) to buy it? Well preorders are open a good 6 months before the game comes out gives you time to pay it off just a little at a time I think it is awesome and you get free in game content or posters when you do so.

how is preordering a scam? You pay the same amount regardless of when you pay for it.

Tell all the people who preordered Colonial Marines it wasn't a scam.

Most games get review embargoes nowadays, so if you've preordered a game and it turns out to be ****, you don't find out until release day so it's too late to cancel your pre-order.

So you're blaming the inability to take some time do some research on the store? If you preordered colonial marines you were a retard to begin with. Even gameinformer rated it badly before it dropped.
You have to know who gives good ratings, but preordering a piece of **** is entirely the players fault.

The thing is, it didn't look like a piece of ****. Gearbox did everything they could to cover up the quality of the game.

For example, the demo was of the first level I think, and it was of a much higher quality than it was in the full game. They also doctored many of their screenshots, and the trailers were all scripted.

It doesn't matter who gives good ratings when you can't actually get the ratings until release day. You might be able to get a magazine before then, but hardly anyone does any more because you can get the same information online for free.

there are plenty of reviewers who get to play the game before release.
I knew marines was going to suck cock so i didn't even bother with it.

They get to play the game earlier, but they're usually under an agreement with the publisher to not release their review until the game drops.

Some small reviewers might have no problem ignoring that agreement, but the big sites (which most people will go to) have to stick to that agreement otherwise the publisher will cut them off. Then the site will get no more previews, interviews or review copies from said publisher.

there are plenty of reviewers that send out their reviews before hand. I know of a few big reviewers that give games bad reviews before it gets released.

It's likely the games they were reviewing were not under embargo.

Which sites? And did they review colonial marines before it's release?

i dont use websites. If you use websites for review then thats your problem right there.

and I don't think you fully understand the definition of embargo. Yes its a ban but not just any ban.

Well of course magazines are going to get it early, but the vast majority go online.

And it might not be the original usage of 'embargo' but when reviews are held back until a certain date it is actually called a review embargo.

>allows for multiple payments over the course of months
>allows you to simply walk in and walk out if you've paid it off ahead of time
>ensures that you get a copy on day 1

the only part i hate about preorders is all the day one dlc bonuses with games like AC4 where every store has a different dlc pack that all should have been in the game to begin with. it's retarded, but i wouldnt call it a scam.

I don't ******* understand day 1 DLCs. DLCs are supposed to be addons to the game that weren't finished when the game drops, or new ideas after the game releases, not **** that were taken out of the game then released together with the game.

Because the main game is finished well before the release date. Devs can work on additional content after they finish with the game and release it digitally on the same day as the main game because release for DLC doesn't take as long.

GAME, Gamestop and BestBuy push publishers to make them cut part of the game out and offer it as preorder dlc so that more people will preorder, thus resulting in more sales.

No they don't. Gamestop just receives them with the shipment. The day 1 DLC's rest solely on the developers.

The stores refuse to sell certain games unless the dev makes day one dlc to make people more inclined to preorder.

No. They don't. They can refuse to sell a product wholesale but they can't force a publisher to add something. Gamestop and best Buy make absolutely no money selling new games. Preorders do not go to them. They go to the publisher. The publisher is responsible for making more people want their game and buying it early.

If you are over the age of 18 and cant afford to pay $60 upfront you should not be spending money on a video game.
