Maryke Hendrikse is the voice actor of plenty of cute characters, from Bratz and barbie and a bit of my little pony and what not, and then she voiced Revy with her "TAKE THIS, COCKSUCKER"
Voiceactors amaze me sometimes. Does anyone else here know of voiceactors with that one role that just took you completely by surprise?

It disturbs me that most of the voices in cartoons where a child is a boy, often a female does voice cast it. In holland is even Ash Ketchup voiced by a female

When I first figured that out, I immoderately watched a clip from the dubbed, and now I can't un-see and un-hear that information.
#92 to #52 - articulate ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
It's because young children can't match the mouths of the characters very well so they use a female who can. Alphonse from FMA is actually a boy because there was no mouth for him to match.
picture not related
User avatar #103 to #92 - hlgrindstaff (09/07/2013) [-]
Actually, in the first series of FMA, Alphonse was voiced by a boy, but by the time they starting making Brotherhood, he had gone through puberty so his voice was too deep and they hired a girl to do the Brotherhood voice.
User avatar #155 to #92 - newforomador (09/07/2013) [-]
What do you mean mouth for him to match? I don't quite understand why a voice actor would have to match their mouth to anything.
User avatar #157 to #155 - articulate ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
To the cartoon character's mouth.
User avatar #159 to #157 - newforomador (09/07/2013) [-]
Isn't that animated after they've done the voice acting? Like, they say "Let's go get our bodies back" into a mic, and then the mouths are animated to fit the voice.
User avatar #160 to #159 - articulate ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
Nope. Animated first.
User avatar #161 to #160 - newforomador (09/07/2013) [-]
That sounds odd and not very useful. But whatever, if it works it works.
User avatar #162 to #161 - articulate ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
Either the actor has to match the mouth or the animator has to match the sound. It kind of makes sense to animate it first.
User avatar #163 to #162 - newforomador (09/07/2013) [-]
Not to me. I would imagine it would be no different then making the mouths match whatever the script is, if anything I would thing it'd be easier because they have something better to go off. Also, according to this link, they voice first. Although I know yahoo answers isn't exactly the best thing to go off of.
#165 to #163 - articulate ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
Maybe it is. I know they have to match the animation when dubbing anime though.

#74 to #52 - alleksi ONLINE (09/07/2013) [-]
well it really makes sense though
hiring an actual child/teen to voice act is incredibly risky and often results in a poor performance. women can give a fitting voice for a young boy and still actually act.

one of the more impressive roles (and relevant to recent times) that I've seen is Armin in Shingeki no Kyojin, who is voiced by pic related

and one of the worst I've seen is Goku in the original japanese version of DBZ

I'm curious, as I'm in my last year of high school too... What is college like, exactly? I'm so confused as to what major/minor choices I should make, as the normal, vocational stuff bores me to death, but the things I actually enjoy doing just don't seem like they'd earn me a substantial income. Also about to take SAT/ACT in about 2-3 weeks, do most colleges take those tests THAT seriously (I.e., get a 1600 and most colleges may consider it too low to be accepted)? Amongst other things, what about living conditions? I know it varies from college to college, but the colleges I've been looking at are always pretty far away, meaning I can't live at home and go to college. Is living at a dorm worth it?

Sorry if I'm bugging you with all these questions, but they're always on my mind these days >_>
User avatar #183 to #153 - mikepetru (09/08/2013) [-]
1. When in college, spend the first 2 years PLOWING through all of your general eds. It will be a lot of boring, sleepless nights writing papers you hate, but you can send the last 2-3 years taking only courses you like, be they major/minor/electives.
2. Try your damnedest on the SAT/ACT. All colleges take it seriously, and you should above all. My SAT scores and regular grades earned me a full-ride at my college. Only thing I'm spending money on is textbooks. Put in the extra work now and study hard, you'll thank yourself later.
3. Dorming is personal preference based. I commute to school from home. If you're going to dorm, think long and hard about all the responsibility that comes with, dorm fees, cooking for yourself, doing your own laundry, having to deal with roommates, travel expenses going home on the holidays AND doing your work on top of all of that. Make sure you factor all of that in. For ME PERSONALLY, dorming isn't worth it, but to each his own.
User avatar #188 to #183 - jvizzlez (09/08/2013) [-]
About the SAT/ACT scores and grades...
11th grade, took PSAT and the PACT (whatever the ACT's practice test is called), and got, I think, around 1750 on SAT and something above 25 on the ACT. My grades for last year were also at a constant 4.00 GPA, up from the previous two years of 3.00s. What would you say is the lower limit for getting into colleges with full rides? My old guidance counselor (old because she no longer works at my school) told me I could apply for a grant for roughly 10000-15000 dollars based on my income levels, meaning that if the college required any more money than that, I could pay off what little I had left with some minor scholarships, so I SHOULDN'T be too worried about expenses, but, again, I'm a worrysome ************ and I really want to know :S

the grant was the GA grant or something

Darth Vader's voice was played by James Earl Jones, a famous voice actor who is in fact black. While the original and prequel trilogies might not be animated, I was referring to the fact that someone who is black voice acted a very famous and cool character. Also, there are plenty of star wars movies, tv shows, video games, etc. that are animated. so you can't say that star wars a a whole is not animation.
