I don't get colleges like that.
"You're old enough to smoke, go to war, sign your life away in debt and pick a career for the rest of your life, but your minds are still incapable of being around the other gender."

This doesn't apply to everyone, but there are some people which I am worried about.
#28 to #2 - rdobet (09/06/2013) [-]
Honestly at my college, it didnt even matter. Sure we were separated and unable to get in technically, but all you have to do is swipe them in and you're good. You didn't even have to be secret about it.
User avatar #36 to #2 - vivapinatapro (09/06/2013) [-]
It's probably a private school. The majority of major private universities like Duke and Notre Dame have religious affiliations, and don't want college kids rubbing up on each other in their residential areas. Which is fair, because again, it's their prerogative.
User avatar #39 to #2 - IamSofaKingdom (09/06/2013) [-]
Colleges that do this tell you upfront and you sign a contract with the school that you agree to their rules and restrictions. It is perfectly ok to disagree with them but if you do, it is as simple as not going to that school. This would be more for the parent's piece of mind, particularly those paying the whole tuition of said student.

Because our minds ARE still incapable of begin around the other gender.

It's probably a religious school. My cousin went to St. Johns College, all female, no men are allowed in the dorms.

It's actually so a girl doesn't become roommates with a potential rapist.
User avatar #124 to #119 - tittylovin (09/07/2013) [-]
Non co-ed is fine.
Totally banning the other gender is a bit extreme.
The more YOU know, bitch.

how? colleges want money, they are a business, therefore they will try to get as much money as they can even if it means making students behave a certain way
User avatar #193 to #191 - tittylovin (09/07/2013) [-]
The point is that college shouldn't be highschool 2.0
It's not their job to be money-grubbing rulemakers.
They shouldn't have rules like that at all that limit the students.
The same students that pay the faculty salaries.

College is supposed to be an all around learning experience, official classes as well as a social experience. Treating adults like children is only going to make them feel untrusted and more likely to **** up.
User avatar #194 to #193 - engstu (09/07/2013) [-]
I realise its a horrible state that tertiary education is in today but thats the way it is currently and people should realise it and make enrolement choices accordingly. College is supposed to be about learning and responsibility many other things but if people enrol and go there thinking that thats the way its going to be then they are going to have a bad time

User avatar #102 to #99 - germed (09/07/2013) [-]
If you have a penis you're a man, even if you consider yourself a woman. Gender is Biology, not a choice.
Even then, if you're a transexual and get your penis removed then I guess that makes you a half woman? I have no idea. Though I guess a Shemale having sex with a guy is gay, but wouldn't that make a shemale having sex with a woman lesbian sex with a penis?
And then there's buck angel, the saucy minx, I don't even know what my opinion is on him/her.

Everything I've found is that the UC's are generally liberal, with the exception of UCSD (UC Socially Dead) and UCI (My school). While the rest aren't hippyvilles -exception: Berkeley- they're all co-ed.

When I went to Orientation at UB, some of the parents were shocked that all dorms were Co-ed. The dorms are set up 1 of 2 ways: either 2 doubles share a bathroom or a hallway of 4-5 doubles share a double bathroom. Most they segregate is both doubles will be same gender in the former situation and the hallway will be same gender in the latter.

One of the parents asked, "But what if they fool around? Or even have sex?"
< mfw answer was, "They're largely unsupervised young adults with easy access to alcohol. Odds are pretty good they'll be having sex."

User avatar #176 to #175 - indeedsir (09/07/2013) [-]
yeah i can agree with you. Its unfair to bash religious people on the whole for the actions of a few but really i think the reason that most of the anti gay hate comes from a religious angle is because its the only real weapon that people who are against it have. which is too bad because even though i dont believe in a god most religious texts have a message of peace and tolerance which is spoiled by people who use single lines to pervert the positive meaning of the text

Depending on the college, the person in charge of the dorm, who is usually some old ass lady with a stick up her ass about everything.

My brother made the mistake of going to a university with elderly woman as dorm wardens and got screamed at for a good half an hour for having music on his laptop at 30, loud enough to be heard only if you stood a couple feet away.

Then the dorm CO comes by for a random check, finds her, they both get kicked out of their dorms. That's who cares.
User avatar #7 to #6 - mastersaturday (09/06/2013) [-]
Well, how often does that happen? And I highly doubt that they would be kicked out of their dorms for one offense of that rule.

Have you ever lived in a dorm before?
User avatar #19 to #8 - arkytior (09/06/2013) [-]
maybe he lived in a more free dorm.

I lived in such a dorm last year, visitors had to leave their ID with the CO, no boys in girls' dorms and vice versa

This year I'm going to the dorm where you can have 20 people in your room (if you can fit them in) and noone cares

Uh, yeah. We never had any random checks to begin with. But then again, we also didn't have this ******** rule. Unless this guy goes to a Catholic university, I don't see the harm.

Get her to wear a fake moustache.

This is... just... completely ridiculous... I don't think I'd last very long there. I live in a dorm too, but apart from regular checks if the room isn't burned down or something (once per semester), nobody gives a **** what you do. You can even live with your GF if you want. We are all adults here after all.

Same as mine. Although you have to sign them in and escort them everywhere if they aren't in your room. Other than that, no one cares.

I'm about to graduate from a college like this. I can't get out soon enough.

At my school they're allowed in, we just have to keep the door open. And they have to be out by 11 (12 on weekends)
