there is a lit stick of dynamite a piece of pie some people in a truck nearby that may be worth questioning, and they are focused on the boot.

I have lived in Canada my entire life and I have never once heard anyone say 'aboot' unironically. I really have no idea where people get the notion that we say it all the time.
#25 to #17 - notafunnyguy (09/05/2013) [-]
i live in NB. no one says it here either. But damn if you ever talk to a newfie , you will hear all kinds of "aboots" and words you didnt even know were words. ex : "where ya to?" is newfie for " where aboots are you going? "
#44 to #25 - anon (09/06/2013) [-]
I live in NB also, and I can confirm this. To be perfectly honest, the first time I ever heard the 'aboot joke' it was with an American saying it.
User avatar #33 to #17 - Crusader (09/05/2013) [-]
To be honest, it's because we are Canadian, we don't hear it.
If you go and hear only other accents, and then come back, you can hear it, but it's not as pronounced as people make it seem.

My ex is Canadian and she said "aboot" and "eh" all the damn time...
Guess it's what part you're from?

Listened to some speaker once. I don't know where he was from, and I had no interest in what he was saying.

He had my attention as soon as he said "aboot"

He also ended up sounding something like a cross between a canadian and Coach Z...

Only people in newfoundland says 'aboot'
User avatar #21 to #15 - darrenrulzu (09/05/2013) [-]
I'm a Newfoundlander and I can confirm that this is false unless they are really really old I mean 70 years old plus. Other then that the newer aged folks specially my age just say "eh" "b'y" and when referring to men, "I dear say b'y" and when referring to wemon "I dear say maid"
User avatar #22 to #21 - scoobi (09/05/2013) [-]
You might not do that but Newfoundlanders have thick accents I think
