Accurate on many points but a few issues:
1.Obama got the peace prize too and he's no pacificst.
2. Argentina invaded the Falklands, not Britain.
3. The EU supplies over 50% of all the foreign aid in the world. They're not just "the biggest", they're bigger than the rest of the world combined.
4. The EU is nowhere near economic collapse, forecasts are for growth, and the US isn't a shining beacon of anti-corruption.

The odd cultural superiority thing is a bit sad, though.
User avatar #74 to #33 - JoshOwnsAll (09/05/2013) [-]
I just love how argentina thinks the falklands are theirs.
The inhabitants of the falklands have openly stated their comfort on being british, why doesn't argentina **** off?!
User avatar #90 to #33 - xdeathspawnx (09/05/2013) [-]
I would agree on all of your points, except for #4. The statistic used in the post stated that the US supplied more foreign aid than any other country, which is true. You can't compare one country to several countries combined when it comes to something like a monetary value.
#164 to #90 - poach (09/05/2013) [-]
Then the OP is a complete retard for pointing out that a country of 300 million people provides more aid than any single country in group of countries the largest of which is 82 million people. He didn't though, he told "Europe" that the US provides more, and the US does not provide more than "Europe". More than the UK, more than France, more than Germany? Yes. He's talking to "Europe" though.
#38 to #33 - Hightower (09/04/2013) [-]
Not to nitpick, but the EU foreign aide contribution is not comparable to the US. You can't insist that the EU is made of separate countries, then lump their contributions together to compare them to a single country.
#39 to #38 - poach (09/04/2013) [-]
You're telling me I can't lump the EU together in a response to a post that lumps the EU together? Nope. I can and I will, complain to the OP.
#40 to #39 - Hightower (09/04/2013) [-]
No, I'm telling you you can't have it both ways. 1/2 the comments are about the EU not being one country, while the other 1/2 are extolling the virtues of the EU as if it were a single country. Nothing to you personally, just the comments in general.
#41 to #40 - poach (09/04/2013) [-]
The OP lumped them into one country so I did the same in my response. If he's going to bitch at "Europe" as a whole about foreign aid, "Europe" as a whole gives way more than the US does. He shouldn't bring up foreign aid in an anti-"all of Europe" rant. I don't particularly give a **** about whether the EU wants to be seen as one country or not, the EU is some weird mix of a country and not-a-country, but the OP started under the assumption that "Europe" counted as one thing in his rant, so that's how the responses will be.
#42 to #41 - Hightower (09/04/2013) [-]
Except for the half of the responses that are insisting the EU not count as a single entity. That's all I'm saying. EU either counts as one entity, or it counts as multiple, but it can't be both depending on what you, and other commenters , feel like posting at that moment.
#44 to #42 - poach (09/04/2013) [-]
Well the EU can be described as a country or not a country depending on which aspects you want to emphasise and your own opinion. It's got some things a country has and the real countries keep some of it. It's a weird mix.
#45 to #44 - Hightower (09/04/2013) [-]
So it's not a single country, unless it being a single country helps win an argument or prove a point...
That totally seems legit.
#47 to #45 - poach (09/04/2013) [-]
I didn't start this, the OP did. If you're gonna bitch at Europe as a whole then yes, Europe is now one entity for the sake of this argument.
#48 to #47 - Hightower (09/04/2013) [-]
I'm not bitching about anything. I'm pointing out the double talk you guys have to go through to even have this discussion.
The EU is NOT a single country, unless you need it to be to win an argument, or to make a point, then it is a single country, unless someone else says it is, then it isn't, but it can be...
#49 to #48 - poach (09/04/2013) [-]
"You're" was a generalism, not you specifically. The OP called Europe one country, what do you want me to do? I don't give a damn whether the EU is "one country" or not, but if you're going to bitch about "Europe", then I'm going to treat "Europe" as one thing. I'll stop calling Europe one thing when people stop saying "Europe does this" "Europe does that" "Europe bla ******* bla".

I'm using "double talk" because I've been forced Stop making sweeping ******* statements about the entireity of Europe or expect sweeping ******* statements in response.
#52 to #49 - Hightower (09/04/2013) [-]
I made no such sweeping statements. I merely pointed out what you said was only correct from a certain point of view, one that requires you, and others posting like you, (see how easy that is? I mean to make the differentiation with a small statement?), to be on both sides of an argument.
You seem to be getting a little upset, and repeating yourself, which was not my intent. I thought from the tone of your first post you may be up to a discussion, or be willing to entertain a dissenting opinion. I can see now I was wrong.

#53 to #52 - poach (09/04/2013) [-]
As with previous posts I use "you" as a generalism to mean anyone making the argument. I've said many times that I don't care what the EU calls itself: your nitpicking isn't my concern. The OP made this post under the assumption that "Europe" was one thing, and I responded under the exact same assumption, followed by you showing up trying to make a point under a completely different assumption which has absolutely no bearing on my own response.

If you're so determined for it, then fine: Yes, I regard the EU as a collection of countries. Yes, the US outweighs each of them individually in foreign aid contributions. Yes, some people move the goalposts in arguments to suit themselves.

I don't care about any of that because none of that is relevant here. The post STARTED with the assumption that "Europe" is one thing. I RESPONDED with the assumption that "Europe" is one thing.
#54 to #53 - Hightower (09/04/2013) [-]
Yes, we can see what is written just above these. What you fail to understand, even though I explained it several times, is that it can't go both ways. I can see in this thread alone 1/2 the europeans arguing in one post that the EU is NOT a single country, and shouldn't be lumped together, and the other half arguing in a nother post it is a single entity. Your comment just so happened to be at the top.
#55 to #54 - poach (09/04/2013) [-]
As long as they stick to that for their argument I don't care. You can call the OP invalid because it groups Europe into one country and it isn't, or you can call it invalid because assuming Europe is one country the OP makes a series of false claims, like foreign aid.

Whilst I really agree with most of this post... Britain didn't invade the Falklands, that was Argentina. The Falklands were settled by Britain, it's a British colony that we defended... just y'know fyi.

Britain didn't invade the Falklands in the 1980's, Argentina did, the Falklands was a British protectorate left over from the 19th century. This is why Europeans dislike Americans, you son't seem to know anything but act like you know everything.

In that defense, most Americans don't claim they know a lot or anything about Europe. Also you don't expect us to know everything about Europe do you? Also Americans don't expect Europeans to know a whole lot about America, that's a stereotype.
User avatar #122 to #73 - captainpatters (09/05/2013) [-]
I think most Europeans do know alot about america, at least more than Americans know about Europe. Mainly due to the influence of american media and the numerous nature of European cultures and countries.
