I pretend I am in a convoy and we are going on an epic mission. Is that weird...

On long trips on the freeway, I used to pretend that all the vehicles are going to war and the ones in the opposite lane are the injured because they're usually going slower.

I pretend to be a crazy stalker and wonder if they're freaking out if I end up right behind them for a long period of time..

Nope I do it too. I love driving my truck and getting in a line of trucks. Makes me want to install a CB just to annoy people by saying **** like "breaker breaker this is the stag we got a clear shot from here to the strawshoot so lets hit it."

I actually thought about something the other day... What if there was an app to contact the car around you and you could talk while driving so you dont die of boredom. What do you guys think? Good idea? any input?

You're not alone, I go on one or two trips a year (eight hour drive) with my family. Usually an hour or two in we all either start to nod off, or just stay silent counting aloud how many more miles we have.

What I've always pictured was a special radio, and random generated number (it would change every so often as to not get any stalkers) on the back of each car like where a bumper sticker would go. Put the number into the radio, and it calls the car, and they have the choice to accept, or ignore the call. But instead of using your phone, it would be through your speakers, or a headset/mic.
User avatar #111 to #91 - jcomer (09/04/2013) [-]
EXACTLY!!! I pictured a ticker tho. something electrical that could also connect to the phone and could display the new number so you always have a new number.

I don't know about the idea, but that picture...you're goin' somewher with that.
User avatar #34 to #29 - dedaluminus (09/03/2013) [-]
Well you could always have a CB Radio and talk on the appropriate channel for the direction you're going

I do
User avatar #35 to #34 - jcomer (09/03/2013) [-]
But more people have cell phones that can download an app rather than go out and buy a whole radio to put in the car
User avatar #38 to #35 - dedaluminus (09/03/2013) [-]
The only foreseeable consequence of such an app:

RING RING
"Hello?"
"HEY, **** YOU, ASSHOLE, WHY'D YOU CUT ME OFF YOU LIMP-DICKED ********** "
"MAYBE IF YOU LEARNED TO ******* MERGE, ASSWIPE"
"I'M GONNA ******* KILL YOU"

And then the road rage rate goes up 400%.
User avatar #40 to #38 - jcomer (09/03/2013) [-]
That just sounds like it could turn really interesting.

Join the NSA.
You get paid to watch people do stupid **** on the internet.
You get to talk to your buddies about all
kinds of crazy **** you look at online that the users posted.
You get to "inspect" porn sites all day to check for "malicious activity".

You basically get paid 50k a year of tax money with benefits every year just
to do what you normally do every day, but with an excuse.

You could be playing battlefield 3 online all day to "investigate terrorists training with virtual simulations".

Now have this drawing I made of a chick getting her tits jackhammered.

Possibly making ultra-short range radios for contacting each other.

I'd really enjoy that.

> talk while driving

User avatar #30 to #29 - Mortuus (09/03/2013) [-]
I believe that would break a few laws.

Nice image, though.
User avatar #31 to #30 - jcomer (09/03/2013) [-]
Let me elaborate a little more. There would be a randomly generated number and you can connect to that number kind of like bluetooth but the other person has to approve of the incoming call or message. so they wouldnt know the phone number of the other person it would just be a temporary type of number.
User avatar #32 to #31 - Mortuus (09/03/2013) [-]
A modified Snapchat for car rides sounds rather fun.

I do enjoy that idea.

it's called a CB radio
User avatar #41 to #37 - Mortuus (09/03/2013) [-]
Because everyone has a CB radio in the family sedan.
User avatar #43 to #41 - bowler (09/03/2013) [-]
nobody does. the guy said he wishes we did. thats the point of this conversation.
User avatar #48 to #43 - Mortuus (09/03/2013) [-]
I believe that this discussion began as someone asking whether others thought that a mobile device application was a good idea.

While a CB radio was/is one way of contacting nearby drivers, it is a nearly antiquated device, however, due to the widespread use of mobile devices, an application would be a more pragmatic solution to socializing on the road.
User avatar #58 to #48 - Tiwtin (09/03/2013) [-]
The problem with that is that CB Radios have amazing range, whereas a phone does not always have reception.
User avatar #50 to #48 - bowler (09/03/2013) [-]
In addition, he suggested we make an app for that. cellphone use while driving is quickly becoming illegal pretty much everywhere. CB radios aren't illegal and wont be anytime in the foreseeable future.
User avatar #49 to #48 - bowler (09/03/2013) [-]
It was suggested as if it had never been done before. I was just saying that the concept already exists.

In Poland they do. It became very popular lately, mostly to warn other drivers of those sneaky police controls. Also for the giggles.

I like to look at the people in the cars as they pass and make up stories or ideas of where they might be going that day and what they'll be doing. Sometimes there are enough clues to guess pretty well if they have stuff strapped to the top of the car.
