it's sad that most teachers don't think like this and view it as just a job

i've literally had teachers that would hand out packets, tell you to do problems 10-25 or watever, then spend the entire period on their facebook ignoring all the kids

and it really pisses me off that most kids loved those teachers

i had a teacher during the first semester as junior in high school. she was exactly like that, except that she didn't know anything about what she was teaching. she had an assistant that was brought in about 2 months after the semester began, and he ended up taking her job completely. apparently she was fired for being the worst teacher the school had ever had

I don't see those teachers in the high classes.

The two most passionate teachers I've ever had were both History teachers. One's name was Mr. Finn and he was really cool. He kind of hobbled and was always, always smiling. He didn't ever patronize us, either. We did very few worksheets but he didn't really have He would talk for the whole period and he had an incredible knowledge of the subjects he was talking about. Even the ****** kids were incredibly engaged. I learned more about my government and the way it funtioned from him than I did anywhere else.

The other is an older woman who sort of looked like Bowser. She was very abrasive but you could always tell she was incredibly passionate. You could ask her any random question about pretty much any major event from the past 200 years and she would have an answer. A lot of kids hated her because she was really strict and had a lot of worksheets but she really cared about what she was teaching. The worksheets weren't really important, what she marked us on was mostly from class discussions and our comprehension of the information. She was absolutely fantastic and really cared about her students, even the ****** kids that would always fight with her.

tl;dr History teachers are really cool.

Tim Minchin's Storm the Animated Movie Don't know if anyone has posted this but this comic always reminds me of this poem by Tim Minchin. Semi related, worth a watch so thought I'd share

A bit idealistic but well said, sadly many teachers have become jaded and don't try to excel they just try to get by

I would thumb you if I could because I agree. It's fine to blame a kid a hold them back when they fail a test but the teachers union threatens to put all teachers on strike if there is ever a mention of a whisper of thought of grading teachers based on their performance.

Those who can't do, teach.

Those who can't teach, administrate.

This being a good argument notwithstanding, I feel, as one studying for his teaching credential, that argument would be best delivered in a calm even tone. The usage of yelling and anger on the part of the teacher simply gives the lawyer something else to focus on (i.e. the rage) were as if the words are delivered calmly then the lawyer would have not to focus on but there meaning; thusly making the argument more powerful.

I don't want to login to post this comment, for fear of losing this one when the page refreshes. I've actually seen this poem delivered on stage by the writer, it was on a show called Def Poetry, and he actually says it in a very calm, even tone, with emotion where it fits. He doesn't scream and shout, like they show in the comic.

I think he means he wants to upvote it, but can't because of the new being level 2 to thumb rules. Be nice.
User avatar #64 to #63 - SuperSixONE (09/01/2013) [-]
Yes, that is what he meant. Its dumbasses like him that say **** like "Oh lol, i would thumb this up but i'm not a high enough level lol :C"

And then 500 people thumb them up
But all you have to do is get something like 50 thumbs
just be funny
User avatar #65 to #64 - psyachu (09/01/2013) [-]
Eh, I still don't think you should be so mean. But I guess it does get a bit annoying when people ask for thumbs all the time like that. I just think this anon was trying to say it's nice and threw in the whole no voting thing, not asking for thumbs.
User avatar #66 to #65 - SuperSixONE (09/01/2013) [-]
He is asking for thumbs, at first I thought he was a troll.
Also, someone that said almost the exact same thing on another post got almost 500 thumbs down.

Before the legal system was highly developed and medicine was more advanced, lawyers and doctors were the worst jobs one could have. Lawyers being the worse of the two. If you were a doctor, people would blame you for if the person you were treating died or if the medicine you gave them didn't help. If you were a lawyer, then you didn't really have much skill. Anybody who could read could become a lawyer. There was no real prerequisites or training. You could just walk into court with somebody who needed defense and start yelling.

Teachers, on the other hand, have been highly revered since the ancient Greeks and Romans. Likely before them. Even to this day teachers are revered in various parts of the world, most specifically Asia.

I don't know about all of you guys, but in America, there are a lot of teachers that just aren't qualified to be teaching or have the will to be teaching and that gives those who do have the will or do have the qualifications a bad reputation.
User avatar #115 - mion ONLINE (09/01/2013) [-]
I had four or five teachers who were like this.

The other 20 sadly weren't.
#114 - radardar (09/01/2013) [-]
Wow I wish I had teachers like this in school. I had the ones the lawyer was laughing about who decided it would amuse them to make kids lives hell in school.
