I think this all the time. I believe in God, but I sure as **** hate associating myself with any religion because it's an instant stereotype of how much of a ******* that religion is. But, then again, any time you say you believe a certain way, you become lumped with the worst.

I dont "believe" in god, but if he truly is a just god he wont judge me on how well i followed his "rules" but how well i treated others, just my idea.

"I don't believe in god"
That's one of his rules.

I originate from Christian faith, but I have some knowledge of other faiths. Instead of solely basing my beliefs on my origin, I take what I know from all the faiths and form my own beliefs of God. It's not that I don't know what to believe, it's that I can't align them with any one group.

God wouldn't give a **** about your religious beliefs or lack of.

He would give a **** if your a good person or a bad person. Some religious people are good and some religious people are bad. Some atheists are good and some atheists are bad.

Beliefs do not change your personality, actions do and those are ultimately what will get you into hevan if there is one.

Unfortunately, plenty of religious people are of the opinion that it doesn't matter if you are good or bad, as long as you believed in the right religion. That's actual doctrine for some.

That's the common mistake everyone makes, they think they know what God cares about. The difference between us and chimpanzees is around 3% in DNA which mostly accounts for looks but also our intelligence. If God truly is "all-knowing" then he is infinitely more intelligent than us, not just a measly 3%. I admire your optimism but the chance of us understanding God are uncomprehendingly worse than a chimpanzee understanding a human.

not according to the Church.

as far as Christianity is concerned, you cannot go to heaven without accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior (similar to Muslims being required to accept that Muhammad was the last prophet).

"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6

"Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." Mark 16:16

"Yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified." Galations 2:16

"And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

"Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him." John 3:36

I'm not a religious person, but I believe Jesus was an incredibly smart man, and that his teachings are incredibly beneficial to society. I follow his teachings (as well as those of Siddhartha Gautama), but I don't think he's the Son of God, so according to the Bible, I will go to Hell.
but you know what? I'm okay with that. assuming God exists, he gave me the gift of free-will and rational thinking, and because of this, I refuse to believe that a higher being exists, without any sort of evidence. If God wants to send me to Hell for using the gift HE gave me, well then I don't think I'd want to be in Heaven with him.

I hope the Bible is wrong, and that a God does exist; one who will reward me for following the basic tenants of Christianity and Buddhism: "don't be a dick."

but I wouldn't count on it.

Guys. Guys. Guys. Get this. What if.. get this. What if the countless translations have messed up what he actually meant and he just meant that you had to follow his new teachings and trust in him? What if it wasn't just belief in God but belief in the validity of his teachings?

Well, I think it's a pretty valid point. I'm not trying to disprove what you're saying but it's quite obvious that different languages don't have perfect translations across language barriers. My theory could always be correct. I also trust the New Testament quite a lot more than the old testament, because if the Old Testament philosophy had still worked as well as it did why would God have tried to send Jesus after that long of a time AND give him new teachings? Thanks for listening to my religious speech. I do however still wholly believe in god and Jesus Christ having been the messiah.

It's not hedonism, or are you perhaps saying you are a hedonist?

I'm not an atheist, but i'm not religious either by any means. However, the way I look at it is that if there is a god, he'd expect people to question him and if he forgives every other sac of **** for crimes he could forgive some free thinking and if he doesn't oh well I wouldn't want to follow someone like that anyway, hell sounds more fun.

What both Christians and atheists fail to keep in mind is that Jesus himself was an anti-clergy man.
