It's a visual novel (aka dating sim) about going through a high school for disabled people and getting into a relationship with one of five girls. They each have different kinds of disabilities and personalities, and what are known as 'questions' to match. For example - Shizune, who is a deaf mute, asks "Can you tell me what you think?" Rin, who has no arms, asks "Can you seize the day?" If you are able to answer these questions correctly, you can have a successful relationship with them.

Of course your character has his own disability. Arrhythmia it is called, and in practice it means he has a very weak heart and could die from a heart attack at any moment. This is symbolic of emotional detachment as a defense mechanism, and again if you can overcome it then you can enjoy the game as it was meant to be played.

Probably my favourite thing about Katawa Shoujo that it's not just written extremely well, but it functions as a well-designed game. I recommend it to anyone, especially those who feel they are detached in a similar way to the main character.
