what do you mean by "Predetermined?"

Here's a neat theory (which you may have seen in one of the many tumblr posts on this site)

You've already lived your entire life, and what you're going through right now is just reliving your memories.

lets assume for a second that there is a work around for the uncertainty principal (so you can know with absolute precision where a sub atomic particle is AND its velocity) now lets assume you knew exactly where every particle in the universe was and its velocity mere moments after the big bang
presumably you could use that data to accurately predict everything that would ever happen ever
if all of the above were true (and it may be) everything that happens happens because it was going to happen and nothing you or anyone else does can change that because everything you and everyone else does was going to happen
and that is what he meant by "predetermined"

considering that it was a neuroscientist he would be talking about the mechanisms of the functioning human brain that personality does not filter into the equation given certain stimuli and it is all down to our pre programmed reactions as a biological supercomputer.

true, i decided to go with the broader form of Predestination so i guess it is not what he meant but in the same vain

well yea it explained the predetermined idea better but skips over this version so thought I would add it in =). None the less I am sure it was quite informative for bakon

Every choice you made was predetermined, not necessarily by god, but by subconcious
User avatar #55 to #54 - bakonforall (08/26/2013) [-]
you mean by MY subconscious, right? or are you referring to a higher power?

Well if you were to choose to go left, right, or straight randomly, your brain chooses subconsciously very quickly which direction to go, and the thought process you are having is your consciousness catching up. You have very little control, a lot less than you probably think you do. Though why I'm implying deities is because why your subconscious is choosing left could be the result of god or just randomness. But this lack of choice is the absence of free will since your subconscious chose for you.

have you considered the possibility that you subconsciously associate things that may not be very much related. when i think "right" i think of putting my hand over my heart and when i think of "left" i think of tennis (i play lefty). these associations could have negative or positive connotations, which would lead your subconscious to choose one over the other if there is no other logical way of deciding.

That is more subjective, but maybe, or maybe not.

those are my beliefs. and if you are not moved to refute them, I suppose we are done here. Good talk, friend.

Well, the brain in my opinion is like a car. A bunch of parts that are not a car seperatley, but together they form a car. Your brain to me is just a bunch of parts that operate in a way that make you you.
