pretty much every advanced military have hovercrafts. They're good landing craft because they don't set off mines when they're near the coast.

Not sure if any kind would work. Usually mines protecting beaches are proximity mines that explode when you touch them, but since hovercraft glide on cushions of air they can't touch the mines, so maybe a really advanced noise activated one could be set off by a slightly louder craft.

It's not a mudguard, it's more than likely a towbar for a trolley you can put your kids in. Can't remember the real name for them though.
