you wipe the surface clean... the gel has a sheet over it and the items held in place so the gel without actually getting mixed in with the gel.

pretend the gel is a hand that grabs objects through a bed sheet. if the sheet gets dirty you don need to wash the hand.

Get dirt and hair and crumbs in a gel and see how well you can eliminate it all without ******* up the gel. It'd be difficult.

Take the dirty part of the gel out.
Plus you could make the gel repellant to certain types of dirt.

That would quickly need replacement though if every time it got dirty you just tore chunks out.
