Pretty sure it's from Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, 80's tv series.

Well, the system is obviously only supposed to run 16-bit 2D games and below, not 64-bit 3D games, hence its console roster.
User avatar #71 to #36 - curtkobain (08/20/2013) [-]
The reason it doesn't have an n64 slot is because there are still patents on it. They end 2015 if I'm not mistaken.
User avatar #79 to #71 - thewaronbeingcool (08/20/2013) [-]
Well wouldn't that also apply to the GBA slot too?
#90 to #79 - anon (08/20/2013) [-]
The port used for GBA games is the same as it was for the original GB games so it the patent might have expired

while emulators are good for on the go it is sometimes better to play on a console. its hard to get the nostalgiagasm from emulators

I use a PS3 controller for most consoles. If I really feel the need, I can buy a usb controller or adapter for almost any system, so for me it makes no difference. If it really matter to you, be free to play the classics as you please.
User avatar #30 to #20 - neutrality ONLINE (08/20/2013) [-]
Hmm while i can see your point that was never really an issue for me.

do you have a link sir?
User avatar #29 to #28 - deadmice (08/20/2013) [-]
this was the last one they made. NES/SNES/megadrive (or genesis)

they run on android based emulators, but run the cartridges and controllers like normal, as well has having its own wireless controllers. looks a little ***** , but its function, not form.

the content is their next plan, and its only a small step to add gameboy/advance and Famicom slots.

skeptical? This will be better then their old versions. It will have updates. So if a game has a problem being emulated they can release patches to fix it.

There running joke is it will be released 2013 summer. People have been asking for a date on their Facebook page forever. And all they reply is Summer 2013. Well they have about a month left till Summer officially ends.
User avatar #77 - curtkobain (08/20/2013) [-]
All right here is the information on this console.

Hyperkin has been saying they want to release this before the end of Summer 2013. They are trying to achieve or come close to 100% emulation. But the console can connect online, which should allow for them to send updates. Fixing games that don't run properly.
The console also has ports going around the entire console for use of the original controllers from the original consoles. It also includes a blutooth controller bundled with but it's always nice using the OG controller.

And for everyone bitching about the n64. Hyperkin would have liked to put an n64 slot in the Retron 5 but the n64 patents last till around 2015 give or take a year.

And the last bit of info that I can think of off the top of my head is that they're aiming for a price under 100 bucks.
User avatar #78 to #77 - curtkobain (08/20/2013) [-]
and the price and date is what they're aiming for. But thankfully they aren't going to rush themselves and release a product that isn't ready and up to the level they want it to be.
#12 - orangepikmin (08/20/2013) [-]

The zsnes is pretty good for proper nostalgia, it has a setting to make it look like you're playing on a much older TV, that with USB snes controller & I stop telling the difference.

The patent on the N64 still hasn't expired....but **** neither has the GBC or GBA, and thats not stopping them.

The Retron5 is promising, but odds are will still be as clunky as its predecessors, hyperkin has a bad rep for compatibility.

But **** it, I still have my original consoles, all RGB enabled (even my N64), and my SNES has Component video...ever see SNES in component? beautiful.
User avatar #75 to #17 - curtkobain (08/20/2013) [-]
This one will be different. They've put a lot of work into it. The console will also receive updates. which will fix games that don't run or don't run properly. They also said they were trying to achieve close to 100% emulation.
User avatar #117 to #75 - thatguyontheright ONLINE (08/20/2013) [-]
I will wait to see if they make good on it. Hyperkin has always been flaky.
User avatar #118 to #117 - curtkobain (08/20/2013) [-]
I disagree.
User avatar #119 to #118 - thatguyontheright ONLINE (08/20/2013) [-]
To me Retrobit has been superior, especially with the Retroduo Portable and the new Retro Duo system which has better compatibility on both NES and SNES sides, including the ability to play MMC5 games and Super Mario RPG.
User avatar #121 to #119 - curtkobain (08/20/2013) [-]
and like I said updates will be able to fix problems if any occur. They said they're trying to achieve 100% emulation.
User avatar #120 to #119 - curtkobain (08/20/2013) [-]
The new Supaboys have been said to fix many problems, including super mario rpg. Besides the Retrobit's look like they're made of cheap plastic. Many reviews between the two people more often than not recommend the Supaboy. Which actually looks like a large snes controller, which is nice.

User avatar #122 to #120 - thatguyontheright ONLINE (08/20/2013) [-]
I am going by experience.

If anything, the real console is always superior to a clone system. Most support RGB, (Except for the NES and several consoles before), and the clones usually only do Composite or S-video, and they have 100% compatibility.
User avatar #123 to #122 - curtkobain (08/20/2013) [-]
The Retron 5 has an hdmi port only and upscales the graphics.

The retron 5 is for the collector who wants to have it all in one place or the person who never experienced these consoles and doesn't want to pay a possibility of 3 times more then what the retron 5 ill be priced.\

And I sure as hell hope the og console is superior. It would kind of suck if a game didn't work at all on it.
User avatar #125 to #123 - thatguyontheright ONLINE (08/20/2013) [-]
I can upscale the graphics as well.

I can see the benefit of 1 machine to do it all, but let us see if Hyperkin delivers what they are cooking. If it's good, I may retire my systems. My initial interest was the GB part, as I did not have a Gameboy player disc at the time of the R5's announcement, now that I have one, it seems to be a pain to have a gamecube hooked up just for Gameboy stuff.

Now if only one of these clone creators make a clone system that includes PC Engine/TG-16 stuff and has the ability to play Sega CD and TG-16 Super CDrom stuff. While we are at it, 3DO too. Now I am just dreaming.
User avatar #126 to #125 - curtkobain (08/20/2013) [-]
3d0 was kind of meh. And Sega Cd was a pretty huge failure.

Besides just the way the retron 5 looks make me think it will be amazing. And everything they've already talked about. They've also had a lot of people talking about it and if I'm not mistaken reviewing versions that aren't the final product yet.
User avatar #127 to #126 - thatguyontheright ONLINE (08/21/2013) [-]
Talk is talk. Again, let us see if it delivers.
