Hey man. You can't fight the Homestuck. You cannot escape. You will be assimilated. Or if you won't give it a chance, you could at least not be a dick to those who do enjoy it. You gotta admit, these are pretty good cosplays.

Despite the fact that I dislike the comic and a large portion of those who enjoy it, I can't say that they were the herpes of the comic con simply because well, it was bronies last year. They're generally acceptable now, despite the fact that it's on the same page as homestuck in terms of weird and rather pathetic.

It's a fandom like anything else and they have a right to show up dressed like that at the convention. This could also be coming from the fact that I was good friends with a fair deal of both bronies and homestuck fans and found that as people they're not bad, their tastes are just different.

I agree, I like Homestuck... actually I'll go as far to say that it is one of my favourite things, but GOD DAMN... like... I can sorta understand them being all over Comic Con because that's just a big convention for every fandom, but they really had NO place being at Anime Boston... its a webcomic not an anime... when they start making a Con dedicated to webcomics, okay, go there....

But yeah, its just the "visual majority" of Homestuck fans that are obnoxious and plentiful at cons, the rest of us tend to stick to the MSPA Forums, and yeah we go to cons, but not just for Homestuck, for other **** we like too...

Homestuck cosplay. It's some lame comic that suits the "randomness xDDd AXDAX:L" of young, bi-curious-but-not-really, emo males and females that don't fit in anywhere else due to their obsession with bland, dry, gray paint that covers their acne and sadness.

Actually, the comic is pretty good. Like every fandom, there are the weird people, but that's unavoidable. The first couple Acts are a bit boring, but they set up crucial parts of the story, so you just have to fight through it. If you want a look at just why we love it so much, go on YouTube and look up "[S]: Cascade". The music and animation are stunning, even when you have no idea what's going on. Like I did when I first saw it. :3 Even if it's not your cup of tea, it's always good to give something a chance before judging it. On a side note, "outcasts" enjoy it so much because the underlying message is about how it's crazy and had to grow up, but eventually you'll find what you're meant to do and become something worthwhile.

I really don't understand why this got thumbed down. This anon described the comic in a polite and accurate way and people are bashing them for it. I don't mind if people have different opinions on Homestuck, but you don't have to be rude about it. There's all sorts of fandoms out there, and every fandom has a part they aren't proud of. With Homestuck, it's bigger than others. I agree that there are a lot of annoying and obnoxious fans, and a lot of people who misinterpret the characters and story, but you shouldn't blame the comic or the whole fandom. Most people that say they don't like it have only read the beginning, which, frankly is very ******. I'm not saying that you're not allowed to dislike it for that, I'm just stating in my opinion that it gets better later on. Hell, maybe you've read the whole thing so far and still don't like it. That's fine, it's your opinion and I have no intention or way of changing that. I'm just telling you my opinion and why I see things that way. I've met a lot of wonderful people because of Homestuck, and I'm very glad for it. And there's some really good cosplayers in the community as well. Sure, you get a lot of people that don't exactly fit your headcanon for the specific character, but that's what I like about it. The characters are vague enough to have different interpretations. The author even stated that the human's didn't have specific races or body types.

tl;dr, Don't judge a whole fandom based on a small, or in this case large, part of it's fans. Also, if you only hate the cosplayers/fans/comic because a lot of people happen to like it or dress up as their favorite character, then that's just rude.

I hated it yet I loved every one of Jhonen Vasquez's work, which can arguably be placed on the same level.

My reasoning was that the concentration of pure stupidity outweighed the gems. If you're going to make something mocking society then it's always best to stay away from randomness and hyperactivity except in the cases of humor, and even then there's a limit. Vasquez put in Zim's robot to be made fun of as a moron, and Johnny's girlfriend as a stereotype of the cancer which now finds Gir so cool, to make a statement about true nonconformity and being yourself.

The thing itself is supposedly a webcomic, but in practice so much more.
It's an epic (as in the genre) beyond the scale of any other work, the plot being complex enough to rival even A Song of Ice and Fire. It's composed mostly of pictures, like any other webcomic, but the author makes good use of gifs, flash animations and even games and funky scripts to bring it to life.
It starts out with two painfully slow first arcs consisting of the characters goofing around, which causes most people to drop it early on, it is first after those however that it starts building tension and plot. It is currently a staggering 8,342 pages long, with an average update rate of over five pages per day.

It is also the best work you'll ever find at toying with tropes. TVTropes itself lists the author, Andrew Hussie, as dangerously genre-savvy and in their words "It's abundantly clear that Hussie is a man who knows his tropes really, really well. Practically everything he does (but especially MSPA) plays with, subverts, double-subverts, deconstructs, exaggerates, hangs lampshades, and otherwise works the hell out of the conventions of multiple genres at the same time. Also, if This Very Wiki is anything to go by, he's very, very quotable."

And the fanbase is so big that when Hussie released a 15 minute flash after about two months of hiatus, attempting to host it crashed first Newgrounds, then Megaupload because of the sheer number of people trying to watch it, and then Tumblr crashed because of the people talking about the former two crashes.

There was also a time when a a group of them cosplaying as the trolls (most of them were either Eridans ot Vriskas because those are the hipster-looking ones) all put their spit in a bucket (basically they were trying to emulate how trolls reproduce... kinda) and mixed it around, there's a video of on youtube somewhere I'm sure, but it was just disgusting, and I'm pretty sure one of them poured it on himself...

It almost made me puke... but I'm still not ashamed to be a Homestuck fan because I know that there's people like that in every fandom, and unfortunately those kinds of people, because they are the "visual majority" (not the actual majority), tend to be the ones that "represent" the fandom to people outside of it... it sucks serious ass but thats the way it is...

NOTE: This is a cut and paste explantion.

I am tempted to start this with "Let me tell you about Homestuck..." but I'll cut right to the chase.

Homestuck is an over 6000 (and counting) page webcomic created by Andrew Hussie in which 4 kids play a game called Sburb. Sburb allows the players to manipulate objects in real life while the players progress through gates until they reach their denizen (boss), however things go wrong in the kids' game because of many many variables.

The first act or so is not so action packed but still very funny, it's purpose is basically to explain the rules of the game to you and introduce characters. If one chooses to read Homestuck they should not quite after a mere 30 pages.

I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading, time travel, convoluted plots, and laughs, lots of laughs. The webcomic itself contains .gifs, animations, and even games, all which are important to the story.

The most important rule of Homestuck is DO NOT SKIP THE PESTERLOGS as many people often do and end up not undertanding anything because the Pesterlogs are chatlogs that the characters talk to each other with.

If you choose to read it, I hope you enjoy it.

It's not like there is anything wrong with the fanbase though. There's not a disproportionate amount of bad fans. The fanbase is just insanely big, thus consequently there's a lot of bad fans. Same thing as with the Naruto fandom.
So don't ever let the bad fans make you ashamed of the fandom. In fact, take pride in the fandom, we're the best fandom out there. Because what other fandom has ever managed to fake the existence of an anime or cough up over a million dollars for the production of a game in a matter of days?
