In all fairness, these are all different versions of the same great game, while Call of Duty is a bunch of different games that all play exactly the same and have very shallow plot.
User avatar #32 to #3 - theblindpilot (08/17/2013) [-]
Seriously? I hate bandwagon fags like you. If you're going to hate on COD, hate on it for actual reasons. Teenage fanbase and poor game mechanics maybe BUT they're SEQUELS. You cant expect a whole new game from something thats supposed to be part of a franchise. If you did some research or actually played a couple you'll see that YES they do try to change it up to the extent that they can. The campaign is different and new features are added to the multiplayer but the core game mechanics are the same just as any other game thats a part of a bigger franchise.
#38 to #32 - deletedmyaccount (08/17/2013) [-]
I've played five Call of Duty games, and yes, they do change it up (the belly flop, for instance, is the best game mechanic ever made). But being part of a franchise is no excuse for not changing it up. Look at the Resistance series, none of the three games play the same, and seem almost like they were made by different companies, while still maintaining the plot and general feel (except where when it wouldn't make sense to). Of course the campaign is different and new. The only COD game that changed it up was Black Ops 2, when they added those side missions where it's almost like an RTS game, and I didn't like that very much (but that's just preference).

Even Halo switched it up (new enemies, new vehicles, the suit power-ups) after the first three games. In nearly every COD game it's the Russians. Even when it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
User avatar #44 to #38 - theblindpilot (08/17/2013) [-]
once seem like a person that never played the games. Lets take Halo, something you believe has been "switching" it up and see how it compares to COD. New enemies? Every COD unless its part of a storyline from a previous generation has a different enemy. Its not just all "Russians". I mean its a war shooter. It HAS to be some country, russians, chinese, koreans, americans, whatever. You cant expect alien enemies or a giant dinosaur turtle with spikes on its back. Second, new vehicles and powerups? Vehicles and suits are an asset of Halo. They're what make halo, halo. With COD these are the guns, perks, killstreaks etc. While some are carried over to new generations, JUST LIKE HALO, these are always changed up and new ones are added. So seriously, hate on a game for true reasons instead of jumping on a bandwagon....
#90 to #44 - datswag (08/17/2013) [-]
yeah but the thing is with all these "enemies" they are all the same thing, an equal person fighting an equal person, no vehicles, really the only thing they can change about call of duty is add some more guns, which are pretty much similar, it's not like a gun that one would use in COD is made every other week. They could also make some different killstreaks, but that's hardly enough to warrant a whole new game, its not like the graphics are getting any better, moral of the story while they do switch up cod it just doesnt seem like enough to warrant a whole new game, its too similar of a genre to be creating a game year after year after year
User avatar #111 to #90 - theblindpilot (08/17/2013) [-]
Exactly, and if you're going to say that about COD (which you have every right to do) then dont make an exception for Halo or Battlefield or any FPS becuase they're all the same in that sense.
#157 to #111 - datswag (08/17/2013) [-]
yeah, but in my opinion the way the maps and combat system are set up in BF and Halo it gives a little bit more room to work with, I'm not a huge BF fan, but i think Halo has really done an awesome job switching up their games; really though, the best game in any of these aspects has to be metal gear solid, they really have it pinned down in relation to all of this stuff

I never said I hated it, yo. I don't love them, but I don't hate them.
User avatar #47 to #38 - theblindpilot (08/17/2013) [-]
I mean the game is utter **** now i agree, but saying it doesnt change is not a reason to hate on it. Its innovating just as much as Battlefield or Halo while staying true to its genre.

the only highlight for call of duty (at least in my opinion) was the zombies, and even then, black ops 2 zombies... it ******* sucks compared to black ops, or even world at war
#11 to #3 - hellstar (08/16/2013) [-]
I dunno.. I never really liked the multiplayer much but Cowadooty has a pretty cool campaign mode IMO.

I mean, black ops 1 had a great story, so did COD4, MW2 Wasn't bad, never played BO2 or MW3.. and then WaW was just awesome. People give Cod's campaign too much **** IMO, in my honest opinion, Battlefield (At least the bad company series, never played BF3) had TERRIBLE campaign modes. Truly awful.
#39 to #11 - deletedmyaccount (08/17/2013) [-]
I never played Battlefield. Well, a little of Bad Company, but not enough to get a feel for it. I really enjoyed the first Modern Warfare, but then making MW 2 and 3 seemed like a mistake to me.

Black Ops was super interesting, and in fact I hold no hatred for those games story-wise. Also the belly flops were the best.

battlefield 3 campaign was ******* terrible, bad co. 2 was pretty decent, and i haven't played bad co. 1
cod4 story was great
mw2 story was pretty good
mw3... it was... ok only because it was a closer to cod4 and mw2

black ops was awesome
bo2 was only good because of the different ways you could play it, different loadouts/perks etc.

waw was actually really cool, because it wasn't just another "hurr durr, 'muricans vs. germans" and it still had a pretty good story, that they tied in with bo1 really well

TL;DR the latest games have **** stories, while the older ones have good to great

People talk about the single player in CoD? Are you serious? o_O You know they don't make those games for the single player, they make it for the multi, which grows and changes every year. People don't get into the game deep enough to notice the changes, they play the same game modes and do the same things from game to game and write CoD off as much of a muchness, but if you stop and come to understand it it's a good game.
#37 to #35 - deletedmyaccount (08/17/2013) [-]
I generally only play games for the single player, so if I get a COD game, that's what I'd get at. I guess because making a decent multiplayer shooter never seemed too hard, I never gave the games much credit.

At least Batman AC hasn't ruined an entire genre of video games. Gears of Duty and Call of Halo both lost my faith in the future of shooting games. The devs of previously awesome game franchises have all caught the Fag of Duty virus and tried to rope in the masses of CoD sheep. Who would of guessed that all the die hard Gears and Halo fans would get pissed and stop playing those two abortion of games? I mean seriously? are they that stupid? People who love CoD are going to keep buying that **** every year regardless and play it... People who like Halo and Gears are now stuck with these **** games trying to emulate call of duty... Gears Judgement maybe lasted 2 months because it was so ******* terrible. Now no one plays it and all the temp CoD fags that were their intended demographic are back to CoD... Who would have ******* guessed?? If I wanted to play CoD I would guy the game. I really hope epic and 343 learned a lesson from the ******* disaster from there most recent titles.

How was Halo trying to be like CoD?
#193 to #166 - sloot (08/17/2013) [-]
where to begin...

-class systems
-insta-spawning (kids run out and die every 5 seconds)
-maps that require no weapon control
-ordinance (kill streaks)
-gay ass perks (if you use Promethean vision, or a jet pack go kill yoursel

Halo was already an amazing game (up to 3). Every new title they try and and more and more ******** to the game that makes it worse. Just go back to a vanilla version of halo that we all have been asking to get for 5 years....
User avatar #194 to #193 - screamingdemon (08/17/2013) [-]
If they went back to vanilla it would be like CoD in the way of not trying anything new, and people would just complain. In Halo 3 it took 4 secs to respawn, now it takes maybe 2, big ******* difference. Class system still makes you pick between basic weapons, not power weapons, power weapons still spawn on maps, ordinance didn't change much and the perks hardly do anything. It's still Halo in it's core. If you honestly think these small things changes Halo into something like CoD then you don't know what Halo is about. CoD took regenerating health from Halo, does that make CoD a Halo clone? No, because they are very different games with different gameplay mechanics.
#195 to #194 - sloot (08/17/2013) [-]
Halo doesn't need all the ******** CoD needs to be enjoyable. In the past halo was all about skill. You could level up from winning and achieve new ranks due to how good you where at the game. Sure the gameplay mechanics are similar to what they used to be.... However Halo has become casual like call of duty

User avatar #169 to #168 - screamingdemon (08/17/2013) [-]
Just because Halo 4 had a class system that doesn't mean that it felt like CoD. It still felt much more than Halo than CoD. Because the core Halo feeling is in the gameplay an not with the weapons you respawn with. I'm not the one who usually defends 343 because I don't think they can deliver what Bungie did. But everything Bungie tried with Reach was an attempt to not do the same thing all over again. These new changes are an attempt to not roll out the same game every time.
I can't really say anything about the controls because I've been using Bumper Jumper since Halo 3.

I just don't like the idea of them only showing us the stuff we want too see, and then when wee get into the real actual game, stuff like that is gonna happen like, yea a bounce of times, so its not even that special later on. and somehow people are gonna hack it, or find out some glitches and use them against the other players or they are gonna boost. Like wtf. Thats not even fun? Going into a server where people are doing all the stuff they aren't supposed to do.

I guess so. You know, i've never seen a proper reason why Call of Duty has such bad gameplay mechanics. I know it's repetitive, You're only going for one thing you got in the previous games. It's just "I hate call of duty because call of duty" Kind of **** .
In all and all, I'm not a major squeaker fanboy, But if the game gives entertainment to people, then they're shouldn't be a reason to rant on about it. Like Halo, people enjoy the **** out of that game, including myself. Except Halo 4 until I had to read the books to get the story.

I hate it because it used to be such great franchise. When I was a kid I used to play the **** out of those games, and then...MW2 came out. Yes it was okay to say at least, but everything from that point on, was just... **** . literally. you cant even spawned without getting yourself killed.

This is where you reminded me of why I use to blindly hate activision for COD. MW2, honestly I ******* hated that game. It made me ******* rage quit so much I never even want to see that game again. Their maps were so ******* wide you could ******* shoot into the distance and get a kill. I remember when they had to put a ******* disable on grenades for the first 5 seconds of the game so nobody would be spawn killed. Black Ops was actually alright for me. The gameplay was slower than COD's other titles but that's what I loved about it. You could take your time with it. You didn't just get a kill out of complete luck and call it "MLG Skills". And then, MW3 came out and it was annoying as MW2.
User avatar #141 to #140 - thenikohero (08/17/2013) [-]

User avatar #137 to #135 - Turmoil (08/17/2013) [-]
I disagree, pokemon focuses on story and single player game play, you do not need to get the newest version every time. CoD however focuses on multi-player and once all the players move on to the new game you're almost forced to go along with it or be stuck with a short single player campaign and limited online community.
#138 to #137 - shrekdurself (08/17/2013) [-]
Well, thats a good point.
But apparently, Ghost has a assumed better campaign than the rest. However, If you look back, You have a selection of COD Games that you can play through. You don't really need to focus on multiplayer. I like to play a bit of COD 4 Campaign here and there when I don't really feel like playing a certain game I want to play. Black Ops 2 has an alright campaign. It suprised me here and there. World at War has Nazi Zombies, in which you can see how long you'd survive on your own.
