Ok so I'm kind of a history freak. But i've never heard of a British invasion in The Netherlands. So I looked it up... And they did invade us... Together with Russia...
#532 to #342 - frantasium (08/15/2013) [-]
There was a time Britain used to use a great portion of their navy just to control and utilize your wonderful resources and trade routes. If I also remember correctly, The Netherlands had a lot of foreign invaders. I guess it's a compliment if everyone wanted in on that fine poontang.
User avatar #558 to #532 - toensix (08/15/2013) [-]
No this was after that time, when we were part of France under Napoleon. A part of our history we kind of skip true because not a lot of interesting stuff happend in that time.

What I was most surprised with though was that Russia invaded us once. What the **** .
#569 to #558 - frantasium (08/15/2013) [-]
Well at least you got invaded by an awesome country (in terms of history). Imagine being invaded by India or Papua New Guinea.

Same with Slovakia. I'm not even sure, if there were any British soldiers in SK during WWII.
#422 to #416 - foxfoot (08/15/2013) [-]
this figure was done by some prick historian who counted like a solider steeping foot on another country as invading. He said invading, but there were a bunch of other criteria like im sure he counted if it was military intervention for that country. Also, he i dotn think he's counted the Marshall islands, which im pretty sure were part of the British empire

I love how complex a lot of the other names are, and then there's Borg..
User avatar #137 to #88 - studsper (08/15/2013) [-]
Few of the names are actually very complex when you think about it. Their meanings are often very simple, for example proffessions: Müller, Smith. or they come from patronymic: basically all that end on "son" or "sen" (Andersson, Jensen). And the rest are probably as simple, but perhaps in a different way.
de jong = the young
novak = the new (stranger)

Personally, I would love to have that as a last name

#506 - cinematicbrix (08/15/2013) [-]
(just got reminded) Yesterday at school, my Native Language teacher asked our class what country we believed had made the most movies, and after a while a classmate suggested India, to which our teacher said "correct".

Then a girl in my class asked how they could make movies there since, according to her, they didn't have electricity.

Don't be fooled, my friends, people are dumb as **** here in Finland's schools too.

#543 to #506 - xerxic (08/15/2013) [-]
Is there really any country that doesn't have electricity? I mean a whole country, not just the majority of the population.
User avatar #554 to #543 - cinematicbrix (08/15/2013) [-]
I presume some parts of antarctica don't have electricity
#571 to #554 - xerxic (08/15/2013) [-]
Except Antarctica isn't a country. The research stations must have some kind of electricity. And no, the Frozen Republic of Spheniscidae doesn't count. They've been stealing cable from the South Polar Federation for the last 20 years.
User avatar #32 - themurp (08/14/2013) [-]

Hey, ain't nothin wrong with mexican immigrants.
User avatar #178 to #176 - heartlessrobot (08/15/2013) [-]
They can bring the hats, ponchos, and music as long as they leave their water and stench on the other side of the border.
User avatar #180 to #178 - srskate (08/15/2013) [-]
Don't forget the cheap jobs they'll do but citizens won't.
Or the fact that they are people and all of them are unique.

We have too many god damn people already.
User avatar #186 to #181 - srskate (08/15/2013) [-]
based on what do you make that claim?
User avatar #188 to #186 - heartlessrobot (08/15/2013) [-]
Just looking around, I see way too many ******* people all over the place. Hell, there are people who are homeless or living in motels/hotels just because there's not a single house /apartment for sale for miles.
User avatar #190 to #188 - srskate (08/15/2013) [-]
Well I'll be damned if I've every seen that, but if an immigrant is working and has a house, obviously we can use them.
User avatar #191 to #190 - heartlessrobot (08/15/2013) [-]
Right but we're running out of land to develop and have gotten rid of farmland to put houses. We are running out of room because no one's thought of making housing skyscrapers.
