I know the Taliban is mostly responsible for this, but if the CIA didn't create the Taliban -used to be Mujahideen- to fight the commies, this wouldn't have happened.
So it should say: "before the US created the Taliban which lead to the rise of radical muslims."

*"before the CIA created the Taliban which lead to the rise of radical muslims."
User avatar #8 to #6 - skarre (08/13/2013) [-]
Well, the CIA didn't create the Taliban directly, but they trained a large number of rebels while arming them to take down the communist regime in Afghanistan.
The Taliban broke out as an inderpendent fraction after the communist regime had been removed, and the rebels were fighting each other for power.

However, many Taliban members and other accociated exstemists, including Osama bin Laden, were trained by the CIA, and a huge amount of their arms supply is bought by the CIA.

All this, because Afghanistan were led by communists.

If this is true why do people hate on America for attempting to fix the problem they created?
#37 to #29 - anon (08/13/2013) [-]
Are they fixing it? Are they really? Well, maybe for their own slefish needs.

Osama was great, Taliban was great, Sadam was great. Till they turned around and bit the hand that fed them. Osama attacked the USA (presumebly), Sadam started selling his oil for Euro's instead of dollars (wiki it if you dont believe me), and the Taliban started burning all the popyfields where coke was being massproduced.

They simply replaced them with new puppets, untill eventually they too turn on their owner and will be replaced aswell. For example, the Karzai government (which replaced the Taliban) is horribly corrupt. The same government basicly put there by the USA.

"Great." Except for the chemical weapon bombings, the radical holy wars, the constant fighting, egregious violations of human rights laws, tortures, viewing women as property, etc.

But yeah besides that they were awesome, right?

anon probably meant that the US found them great in the sense they used to be allies of the US until...
#49 to #29 - btw (08/13/2013) [-]
because they are doing the people more harm than the Taliban is, in the process of "rebuilding" their country. Besides are you really that naive to think the US is there only to "fix" the problem?
User avatar #43 to #5 - Ruspanic ONLINE (08/13/2013) [-]
And if the Soviets hadn't invaded Afghanistan, which created the mujaheddin to fight back...
And if the Bolsheviks hadn't created the Soviet Union...
And if the Arabs hadn't spread Islam to Afghanistan...

Etc, etc.
Let people be responsible for their own actions. The CIA may have empowered the Taliban, but it didn't force them to have insane religious beliefs and the desire to impose them on everyone.
#48 to #43 - btw (08/13/2013) [-]
implying they weren't as radical from the biginning...
They just had the same enemy, so the US didn't care back then. But once the Taliban has learned to use a weapon properly, how to make a bomb and recruited many people (the people came because they got payed well (CIA funding + Bin laden was a bilionaire)) etc., suddenly the US did care.
As long as Osama didn't do anything that would influence the US, the US didn't care.
You are right to say that people should take responsibility in their own hands, but the CIA had a far greater influence than you think

This is exactly why we need feminism! Not for petty social issues such as getting called a slut for sleeping with 20 strangers in a week, not being deemed attractive because you're fat, falsely claiming rape when you simply regret the sex or holding the entire male population responsible just because a single guy had been a dick to you.
User avatar #24 to #9 - Kabutops (08/13/2013) [-]
No moron. we dont need feminism. we need equality
User avatar #31 to #24 - warrenzthehero (08/13/2013) [-]
That's what Feminism is supposed to be. The idea behind feminism is to make women, who are traditionally treated worse than men in several respects, equal to men.
But a lot of women are doing it wrong and instead of raising women up, they're trying to drag men down.
But feminism, real feminism, is about equality.
User avatar #25 to #24 - weenieandthebutt (08/13/2013) [-]
What do you suppose then we should do to advocate equality in the Middle East?
User avatar #26 to #9 - godtherapist (08/13/2013) [-]
So, you see a post about how the Western world interfered with the development of the middle east and caused problems so your solution is that the Western world interferes more?

You are some kind of special stupid.
#10 to #9 - aesis (08/13/2013) [-]
Well no, because these women already had a high place in society if they could get into a position like that in 1962.
Feminism doesn't bring this kind of achievement.
Being a decent human being with understanding and tolerance does, male or female.
You don't need to have a whole organisation or "movement" to be a decent person.

Besides, in this case, it wasn't just women who suffered.
Nearly everyone in Afghanistan and the middle east suffered because of the rise of extremism.
User avatar #11 to #10 - weenieandthebutt (08/13/2013) [-]
As a guy of Middle Eastern backgrounds such as myself, I can confirm that women have it much worse there. They're not allowed to drive, be educated, it's compulsory for them to walk around in headscarves, they're practically owned by their husbands, they get beaten and stoned if they get raped. How exactly are they in equal footing to a man? I dunno exactly how effective feminism itself would be but something needs to be done. In the West at least, women essentially have the same rights and equal opportunities as men.
User avatar #12 to #11 - aesis (08/13/2013) [-]
I never said it was equal footing, I said that both men and women suffer.
Whether it be through barbaric laws, death as a result of attacks or poor living standards.
Both genders suffer.

Sure, women do have it worse to the basic point, but feminism would do nothing.
This isn't a pure cut case of women being discriminated against, it's a religious ruling, it's not just exclusive to the women of the country, it also affects those of different beliefs who must follow rules which may discriminate against them.

Okay, hold on a ******* second.

Just because someone says they are a feminist doesn't make them one.

All of those self proclaimed feminists are nothing more than bitchy cunts with a chip on their shoulder.

Womens rights activism, is the definition of feminism.
User avatar #15 to #13 - aesis (08/13/2013) [-]
Where did I say that anyone who says they are feminist is one?

We don't need feminism.
We shouldn't.
likewise, we shouldn't need groups that protest against discrimination towards race.

We're all human beings, gender, race, or anything like that means nothing.
What I'm trying to say is that in order to have a truly equal world you need to understand that not everyone is the same, but still treat them the same.
User avatar #16 to #15 - rhetoricalfunny (08/13/2013) [-]
When you say feminism I assume you are referring to all those whiny cunts like that one red haired hag bitch whose name I never gave enough ***** to give a **** about.

But we do.

Because for all the progress we've made, women and ethnic minorities are still disparaged people.

User avatar #17 to #16 - aesis (08/13/2013) [-]
I don't agree with you that women in the modern world are, and the ethic minorities really depend on the country, where some are more tolerant than others.

However you're right about it for third world countries.
But those two aren't the only groups.
There needs to be an awareness for everyone who is affected.
User avatar #18 to #17 - rhetoricalfunny (08/13/2013) [-]
Women and men are not equal in developed countries. There are still prevalent gender based issues on both sides.

Ethnic minorities are disparaged everywhere.

Everyone is disparaged to varying degrees, and feminism is an attempt to address this.
We shouldn't need feminism, but we do.
