if you wish something clearly unobtainable you will always wish not enough.

but "if you wish enough you'll get it" remains true.

the point is: where other people succeed starting from same or worse condition we know the thing is not unobtainable.

if somebody succeeded, then is obtainable.

there are even things where you may become the first to achieve success.

many people confuses "wish" with "intention".

a tip i can give you is: check what have in common the various guys she dated in the meantime, there is always something that most of the the guys a girl dates have got in common. if is not the height or the age get it as well.
if what they have got in common disgusts you, you are facing the wrong type of problem: you don't want to date her, you want to "wawawaaaaaw hiey!" her.

Knowing what's the problem helps you greatly in solving it, just like knowing what's ill in someone's body healps greatly in helping the doctors to heal him, or to solve the first step in solving a problem:

There are reasons that make it absolutely impossible?

Her first boyfriend was clingy and way too passive. He refused to argue, and she broke up with him after a month. Her second (current) one is the exact opposite, he's a complete ass and she complains to me every day about him. They've been together 8 months. I'm right between the two, voicing my opinion but not making a major deal out of everything insignificant.

As her best friend, I listen to her, buy her ****, blah blah blah. He does none of that, treats her like ****, but provides a place to live. She and I agree; she has two boyfriends. Me: the emotional support and romantic aspect, and him: the physical side. As her best friend (and one of the only two people she is close to, her bf not being one of them) I can't really feel good about myself just dropping her and leaving her to rot, but at the same time I can't do anything to push the situation in my favor. I'm stuck between morals and desires, and I'm not a selfish person.

You are more lucky than you know. i wonder what do you want for her. do you feel guilty for something and wish to be punished?!?!
anyway, i figure out a solution.

slap a globus, stop it with a finger, if points the ocean repeat, if points a land, let say Armenia start bragging the virtues of armenian women (uh also skip lands too absurd like Uganda or Cambodia, but if it is a small country will work better.) ask her help in getting a friend from that country, tell the cook from that land makes people live 100 years, be like the women from other countries are worthless.
Don't leave the bone for a second, whenever she raises her voice by a single DB ask her: "where's the problem?, is not like we are engaged"

Either you or she (or both) will wake up.

This comic is a massive crock of ****. People born into poverty with no hopes of advancement should just "stop worrying" about it because it's not something they can change? Social advancement is still possible but it requires far more luck than skill and somebody can work their ass off constantly as hard as they can for years and still not make it higher than middle class if they start from the bottom. Yes, hard work pays off, but only so much.

Doing hard work and doing things so that you become a millionaire are two completely different things. Some millionaires have never even had to work to be where they are. You just have to know how to tip the scales in your favor.

This goes without saying that you can become successful by working hard, but most of the very successful in the work have worked a quarter as much as you have, and have x20 to show for it. It's ridiculous but somehow it happens.

On a very basic level, I can say I agree with it.
Nonetheless, it's still very flawed. Even if you didn't eat **** all day and actually spent all your time trying to get rich, even if it was the only thing you worked for, chances are you still wouldn't get rich. Getting rich takes a good deal of luck and talent in something along with working hard, but getting rich just by working really hard to do it, your chances are slim.
You have to make money off of something, whether you invent something, or you have insane luck in the stock market, or you make all the right decisions, etc.
It takes more than just work to get there, even if you work your ass off all your life, because just like the lady in the comic said, there are factors we can't control.
The guy explaining brushes it off, saying you shouldn't worry about things you can't control, but that doesn't change the fact that if pokes a huge hole in the original claim: that we're living the life we want.
For the most part, no we're not, whether it's because you're lazy or you're just not lucky or you're working really hard in all the wrong places.

It all comes down to the fact that if I told you right now "Go get rich", you can't just go out and do it. Sure, you can study and do a bunch of other crap, but it often doesn't guarantee anything, and there are factors that can blow your work to bits in less than a second.

Hence my belief that this logic is beyond flawed. Life ain't that simple, man.

But I would think he means that if becoming rich is what you want most then nothing could stop you. So selling drugs, stealing money, scamming people or whatever would give you what you want, but he's also saying that being a better person than that is what is stopping him from becoming rich. So be careful of what you want because being a good person and becoming rich are separate things for his friend, unless he did want to work for it and even then he might not become rich.

Sure. One might not suceed on ones first try, but sure you can try again?
As a teenager or early adult, sure. You might not have the life you want, but you're getting there. Nobody said it had to be easy or fast, only that it was possible. I dont think the logic is flawed, as you can always try again.

Your question can be answered by budhism. If you will live forfilling life then your next incarnation will be something you would call "more lucky" in your born-to condition. Live life like **** and you will be born into misery.

I completly agree with what is in the comic, it very nicely explains my own belief on living. If you want something, do it, if you are not doing it than you only think you want it...

While comics like these are nice they often come form the some of the luckiest, well off, and quite often naive people to ever walk the Earth.

Life isn't that simple, and for many of us things like "luck" and "choice" aren't so easy.
**** like this is insulting to people who have it harder than others.

I mean ****, two men can work just as hard and achieve vastly different results.
We are all born into different conditions and get different amounts of luck.

Frankly I don't give a **** about spoiled people who don't even know what they want.
Bleeding desire against insurmountable odds, being put on the brink of life and death, the endless despair and struggle; until you truly experience the dark side of living then you don't really have a right to say anything.

Won't even mention the nearly 1/3 of the starving human population, et cetera. First world ********.

tl;dr This comic brings up great points but it is also kind of full of ****.

1/3 of population who's starving has a reasonably excuse to pull sleeves.

what is your excuse?

Come on, when a student is gonna fail a test at school, loses 2 months wage ahead at poker, drinks himself under the table 5 hours before go working with a crane...
He knows exactly he's gonna fail, why, and that it was up to him not let it happen.

among who walks the bright path and who walks the dark path its obvious wich one says to the other: "in the name of human brotherhood you must help me."
this alone proves who's wrong.

Some people don't throw their lives away man, some people have their lives and everything they care about taken. I'm not talking about spoiled idiots, I'm talking about everyone who has to struggle more than most. So many people on this Earth who take what they have for granted. It's saddening, and not only that, some of them have the audacity to insult the efforts of those who have to work harder? It's just too much some times.

if it was complicated i'll make it simple:

this comic PRAISES those who set themself to work hard to realize their dreams,
and [this comic] insults those who take for granted what their granpas and granmas realized for them, sweating blood and doing things they knew would bring fruits only after their death.

now we speak some english (excuse me the colonial joke, i'm working on comic strips about king mongkut)

it saddening that people who has such things granted throw them away.
i think this comic whas pointing this aspect.

I'll let you know i work part time in a vietnamese restaurant, i go to their church like many people go to the disco or the pub, so i'm in close contact with people who bend the fortune with raw strenght and temperance.
they struggles as well, i know women that raises 1 or 2 kids alone by cutting vegetables, and still are happy.
The point is: it may be hard, but it is very simple: why there are entire categories of persons that succeed at the same or at worse conditions?
The answer can be only one: because what they know about struggling is correct, what contraddicts what they say is wrong.
