Can I just play my games in freaking peace? Seriously, all of this "gamer" ******** leaves me bitter towards the gaming culture. It's a hobby. People do it for a good time. That's it.

Objection! The cake exists, and is in a room you may reach using a glitch placed purposefully by valve. Companion cube is there too.

Most competitive video games revolve around asserting your superiority through force. Which is inherently a male thing.

Women, however, assertain their superiority in different ways, mostly through subterfuge.

Thus, most women have an aversion to competitive games, because when someone asserts their superioirty over a woman through force, she feels violated. Because they are not used to that - no one will ever try to do that to them in real life, because it's against social norms. Men, however, deal with that almost every day, it's just a normal part of male interaction.

That's where the "They beat me, I feel raped!" thing comes from - someone asserted their superioirty over them through force, and they don't know how to feel about that since that just doesn't happen to them. So they equate it to the most simmilar thing they can think of - rape.

I'm not really trying to justify that - yelling rape because someone beat you in a videogame is rather dumb, but I'm just trying to give a bit of an insight on why such a dumb thing even happens.

The harsh truth is that, yes, whole genders can be generalized on some things. General differences in upbringing between genders, social expectations, inherent differences in brain structure, different influence of hormones, all of which forms certain patterns of behaviour etc,
In this case, the generalization pertains mostly to genders in western countries, but still some things can be generalized. Differences from that generalization are the outlires, rather than the norm.
Of course, I'm not saying that what I said pertains to all memebers of the male and female gender, even in western countries, but it still holds somewhat true for the majority.

I'm a female, and I'm only stating that because it's relevant.

I don't mind playing competitive games because I play to have fun - I don't have to win to have fun. However, I also think it's because I grew up with three brothers. Growing up, I could either sit and cry about losing, or just play the game and have fun. I feel embarrassed when there are other girls playing a game and they whine about losing or the game being too hard. I think it really comes down to how someone was raised; if someone was raised a spoiled princess, they will always be a spoiled princess.

1. Women don't show superiority through subterfuge. When they are in conflict, they try to damage their enemy's reputation or self-esteem through words.
2. If asserting your superiority over men through force is a normal part of male interaction, then asserting your superiority over women through force is a normal part of male-female interaction.
3. I know of at least two women who enjoy asserting their superiority through force in video games, and don't cry when they lose. Although, I'm sure this is the minority. Most girls have never experienced real opposition, and have an over-inflated sense of strength

I've played games my whole life.

But I won't ever say I'm a "gamer". I just call it playing games.

Everyone does it sometimes.

I do it for 12 hours in a row, someone else does it for 30 minutes. Doesn't make me special. Doesn't make them special. It's just something you do with your free time.

If you play video games every once in a while or all the time it all boils down to being a gamer.
If you have a console or machine with any type of interactive digital entertainment properties, I would consider you to be a gamer.
