Dude, its because they dumbed down the game so hard is why its bad, you remember in morrowind... the good old days when you could find a scroll on a dead body... that would let you jump into space, literally jump ACROSS the entire continent only to splatter against the ground...

Perhaps if you removed your nostalgia goggles you would see that the later Elder scrolls releases aren't dumbed down at all and are necessary steps forward in immersion.

Some popular points that people say are "appealing to casuals".

Important NPC's can't die. Well in Skyrim and Oblivion these are very necessary features, especially in Skyrim. With the random dragon encounters from the sky, and NPC random brawls it would suck to have Balgruuf randomly die by your companion all because you accidentally shouted his kid.

I'd rather not be denied possible quests all because an important NPC had a pathing error that caused their death.

Yada yada yada I'm just copy/pasting points from here so watch this video for more info on how that statement is total unadulterated ********.

Here is a simple fact. Morrowind has the most stuff to do out of all the games. Has a seemingly larger game world. More weapons different spells and a much more creative crafting system. Every where you went was an adventure. This isn't nostalgia goggles. because i can still play morrowind and have fun. And skyrim ruined that adventure feel that the game series brought. There is less spells and less weapons overall. less items and the potions only seem usefull for a quick boost of hp and mana. Morrowind was a grand adventure of a game while skyrim was pretty much a linear game with afew side quests to kill time. it feels like it was built for people with adhd. It ended right when people with short attention spans would get bored of it. in just a few hours.

Just open the journal and look at the bottom of the left-hand page. There should be two options: quests and topics. Click on quests and the right-hand page will show you an alphabetical list. It default to the active quests only, but you can toggle it to show all quests; the completed quests will be grayed out.
Click on the quest name to see all the relevant journal entries for that quest.

There ARE a few quests that don't show up in the list, but not many.

My bet is on Nerevarine. The equipment and training at his/her disposal is greater than that of the Dovahkiin's, not to mention that there's no way the dragonborn's first shout is going to take him out. It might help, but I think that given his combat experience, Nerevarine would be able to dodge/recover from it with relative ease. That being said, it would definitely be one one of the hardest fights he was ever in. The Dovahkiin is nothing to sneeze at, and he does become an adept fighter after all of that dragon hunting (I would mention the other stuff he can gain, but that's not canon to the main quest).

My brother recommended Oblivion to me a couple years ago:

I spend 20-30 minutes and make a character, then decided I didnt like it and start over. An hour and a half later, I finish making a new character and get through the tutorial cave with the king or whatever.
I get out and have no idea what to do
I wander... and wander. I come across an Oblivion gate. I thought this was what I was supposed to do first, you know? The main story or whatever? Go in.
Die
Die
Die
Give up, decide to play later.

Never started again. So tell me, is it really fun to do (correctly) and what DO you do first?

I had a warhammer that I had enchanted so much that I git some poor bastard outside The Imperial city and found him later in Anvil, stuck in a tree.

Objection! Oblivion gates don't appear until after you close the Kvatch gate.

YES. ****. YES. Oblivion did things for me that no other game could (don't say one God damn word about that sentence or I'll post ponies, bitch). It was immersive, fun, and oh my God was it intense at times. Skyrim was great, but it failed to hold my attention like Oblivion did. God dammit, now I have to go replay Oblivion.

Yes, it is incredibly fun. In addition, there is a complete overhaul mod for Oblivion called "Morroblivion" which lets you play Morrowind with Oblivion graphics and the quest help from Oblivion, as well as the combat mechanics. (they're currently working on 'Skywind', the skyrim-morrowind conversion).

At any rate, the first thing you do once you leave the sewers is you go to this place called 'Weynon Priory.' If you look at the compass (the line with all of the symbols on your UI), you'll see a red or green arrow, indicating the direction you need to go. If you want to skip all the exploring en route, you could also just open up your map, click Weynon Priory, and fast travel there.

You're welcome!

Without spoiling too much, it leads you to a big ass conspiracy, samurai monks, demon overlords (who you can choose to work for) and a **** TON of side quests. In addition to the main quests and random favors for NPCs, there are also four guild side-stories -- The Fighter's guild (mercenaries), the Mage's guild (packed with intrigue and necromancy), the Dark Brotherhood (Assassins), and the Thieves Guild (the most fun, in my opinion)

You forget to mention Oblivion has well over 200 hours of gameplay.

Morroblivion is the greatest thing i've discovered in ages. That first time seeing the good old Morrowind landscapes again, oh god was it amazing!
