Wait.... the **** ? I didn't get very far with GT, was this a thing?
User avatar #68 to #64 - arbyworks (08/05/2013) [-]
There was a movie called a Hero's Legacy that took place a hundred years after GT where Pan is the last living character from the main series (except maybe the World Tournament announcer).

If you're referring to the GIF of the female Buu, that's from one of the video games which lets you create your own character. Dragon Ball Heroes, I believe.
User avatar #69 to #68 - BrotherDeath (08/05/2013) [-]
I was indeed referring to the .gif, but now I'm interested in how the tournament announcer is still alive.
#70 to #69 - arbyworks (08/05/2013) [-]
Either it was his descendant or he's just immortal. Pic related, it's the World Tournament announcer in A Hero's Legacy.

Same voice and he even remembers the Goku VS. Jackie Chun fight (albiet he imagines Goku as the victor, possibly because the fight he is announcing in GT is Goku Jr. VS. Vegeta Jr.).
User avatar #71 to #70 - BrotherDeath (08/05/2013) [-]
Dem wishes, man. Either someone from the team really liked this guy, or he's got his own Dragon Radar.

Unless he was Pilaf al along and disguised himself to sneak into the tournament to discover Goku's true power.

Yeah, there's no getting around it: she's absolutely adorable.

I think Son-Goku is the guy that found goku when he crashed on earth and raised him as his son, making him good.

that's grandpa Gohan. I think that the son bit is his last name. Something to do with the japanesians putting his last name first or something but i could be mistaken.

Son Goku is actually based on Sun Wukong, so the Son part is a given name by Son Gohan when he found Goku's Saiyan pod.
User avatar #65 to #19 - BrotherDeath (08/05/2013) [-]
Yeah, in Japanese, the family name is given first, the personal name second. Goku's family name is Son, so Son Goku, Son Gohan, Son Goten, etc.

something i just realised.
Picallo is the only person in the whole of dragonball and z who actually did some real damage to Goku. He disabled his body and shot a hole straight through his chest.
frieza although was incredibly strong never really hurt Goku in that way. The only other person who did more damage was Cell and that was Goku sacrificing himself and not Cell being stronger.
#22 to #20 - saiyajinwarrior (08/04/2013) [-]
Vegeta broke just about every single bone in Goku's body.
#24 to #22 - xxitzchubbsxx ONLINE (08/04/2013) [-]
i always forget about that saga lol. The saga where Goku spends like 6 months travelling to King Kai's planet and training and then Piccallo and the gang do it in like 3 days. Wasn't Goku's injuries partly due to him being kiokenx3 or something? But yeah you're right Picollo and Vegeta are the only ones who have ever really hurt Goku a substantial amount.
User avatar #25 to #24 - jellybob (08/04/2013) [-]
Frieza actually killed SSJ Goku when he powered up to 100%.
#26 to #25 - xxitzchubbsxx ONLINE (08/04/2013) [-]
no he didn't.
User avatar #27 to #26 - jellybob (08/04/2013) [-]
He wasn't dead for long, because they revived everyone who was killed by Frieza a few episodes later. He basically crushed Goku into a lava funnel. It was enough to make Gohan feel his energy vanish, and have him revived with the wish from porunga.
User avatar #55 to #27 - zorororonoa (08/04/2013) [-]
Porunga specifically said that the one called Goku ain't dead.
#29 to #27 - xxitzchubbsxx ONLINE (08/04/2013) [-]
he wasn't dead at all. Porunga can only revive one person at a time. The three wishes that were used were to revive piccallo, bring him to Namek and the final wish was to take everyone apart from Goku and Frieza to Earth. Goku doesn't die he's just exhausted.

It's a shounen, they all have the same general tone with varying aspects of plot. If you want something more plot heavy obviously you are going to look for something else.

Please explain to be why it is bad, I understand you don't like it but there is a big difference between personal opinion and something being objectively bad.

I watched it as a kid and liked it then. I recently watched a few episodes again and I still like it. Even more so now, because I understand it better.

I can't really give you reasons why it would be a good show for you. I liked the plot, the characters and the overall feel it had (the feel of people blowing **** up and screaming while they do it and always finding new ways to get stronger).

But that's just why I like it. If that's not your thing, then you won't like it. But you probably have something else that you think is great, but that I don't like as much, or maybe even hate.

I think Dragonball Z is just a show for certain people, and I'm glad to be one of them, but others just don't get the show and because of that don't like it. That's not a bad thing, it just means we have different interests.
#35 to #31 - anon (08/04/2013) [-]
It was the idea of the show. Between this, Pokemon, Super Mario Brothers and Popular Mechanics for Kids, it was an original show. We got caught up in the fictional adventures for an easy way of making our wishes come true.

User avatar #79 to #60 - goergesstpierre (08/05/2013) [-]
This actually from the Dragonball GT Movie: A Hero's Legacy. It's a movie where in the distant future Pan is the last of the Z fighters(that we would remember) and the movie is basically about a small adventure of Goku Jr. Goku's great great grandson.

Why does he even have a grave though?
User avatar #17 to #15 - nevrit (08/04/2013) [-]
Because by all accounts he should be an old man or dead by the time of that episode. Nobody has seen him in years, not his wife, son, or granddaughter (who is old as dirt now). It is understandable that he has one.
User avatar #30 to #17 - neolink (08/04/2013) [-]
In GT he becomes a kid again and at the end travels with the dragon and grows back up normally.
User avatar #52 to #30 - nevrit (08/04/2013) [-]
Yes, but if you remember in GT Pan was only a few years older. At the end of it, she has aged by 100 years since GT had started. In essence that means Goku should have advanced 100 years from his childhood state as well, but instead he retains his youth of his prime. As I said, by all accounts he should be old or dead, but being with the dragon has obviously effected that.
User avatar #72 to #52 - arbyworks (08/05/2013) [-]
This scene is Dragon Ball GT: A Hero's Legacy. Goku is confirmed dead. This takes place 100 years after Dragon Ball GT where Pan is the only one left alive and the main protagonist is named Goku Jr. who is I believe Pan's grandson. In the very end, Goku's spirit (fully grown) arrives briefly to tell Goku Jr. that the Dragon Balls don't work unless he has all 7 (the plot was Goku Jr. trying to find the Dragon Ball to save Pan's life as she fell deathly ill) and explains some heroic stuff.
User avatar #82 to #72 - nevrit (08/05/2013) [-]
He wasn't confirmed dead and that wasn't his spirit. That was him. He also shows up to the WMAT to watch Vegeta's decendent and Goku Jr duke it out. He wasn't dead, that tombstone is just something erected in his honor under the assumption that he was.
#83 to #82 - arbyworks (08/05/2013) [-]
Look, I tried my best to insert logic into an installment that lacks it and after Goku had inexplicably become an adult even though he was wished into youth (and knowing Dragon logic it'd be literal and last forever) and even if he grew up again he'd be a shriveled old prune of what he once was given it was over 100 years since the ending so I'd just accept the fact that he's dead instead of fight for a claim that he somehow gained immortality of some sort since he lacks a Halo.

Pic semi-related, the logic of Z reigning supreme.
User avatar #85 to #83 - nevrit (08/05/2013) [-]
I'm basing off the logic that he went with the dragon and that it might have had something to do with how things turned out. Being the fact that Goku has died how many times is proof that logic can sometimes just get thrown straight out the window.
User avatar #87 to #85 - arbyworks (08/06/2013) [-]
Logic reigns supreme once more, Goku only died twice and the second time, someone had to trade their life for his. GT, the Dragon Balls entered Goku's body yet they apparently still exist in the world while Goku is at his DBZ age. Whatever logic you find is flawed no matter what simply because GT doesn't make sense in some areas.

I still enjoy it nonetheless.
User avatar #86 to #85 - neolink (08/05/2013) [-]
How about this, what if traveling with the eternal dragon through whatever dimensional rifts they go through has slowed down his growth rate or if through the years the dragon granted him eternal life without the need for a wish from the dragon balls.

Dude. Goku is pronounced in Japanese with a long u and short o. The name actually sounds more like "Gokou" than "Gohkou". What the hell.
User avatar #2 to #1 - Nihatclodra (08/04/2013) [-]
Actually more like "Goh-kuu".
User avatar #3 to #2 - randomserb (08/04/2013) [-]
I know, I know, just clearing it up for speakers of English. There is no English approximate to the Japanese near-back u vowel, and if you write it with a Hepburn romanisation it can be easily mispronounced by people unfamiliar with the system. Eg. Gokuu can be taken as "Gowe-kyuu" or something.
User avatar #5 to #3 - Nihatclodra (08/04/2013) [-]
And yet, when I started learning Japanese: I could pronounce the Japanese syllables perfectly first try. I seriously don't get people who aren't able to...

It's has a pretty simple phonology, so that's natural if you're good with languages. However, if you're not familiar with the romanisation or how the language's phonology works, it's easy to mispronounce. Recall the かわいい pronounced as 怖い thing that the internet had going for it.
