I just don't respect the show. It acts like it's for nerds when the character the audience is supposed to sympathize with most often is Penny, while the smarter characters are all annoying caricatures. Then they have the gall to go to places like Comic-Con and peddle their wares.

The thing that bothers me the most though is the studio audience is always tripping over themselves in laughter like 5 minutes before the punchline when there's been no joke told, it's literally just been nerdy banter, and since it's nerdy it's somehow hilarious, and then the punchline is met with silence half the time because they don't understand the references. A studio audience doesn't automatically ruin a show, I love that 70's show, but I've never heard a more obnoxious one as TBBT.

That being said, if you enjoy it, then don't let me stop you. I was just pointing out that you shouldn't be perplexed by the general negativity surrounding the show on the internet, lots of things I enjoy are far from perfect, and I'd probably enjoy that show a lot more if it wasn't for the audience.
#29 to #18 - okaywtf (08/03/2013) [-]
Is that not the problem with all shows that have a studio audience? Studio audiences basically ruin every show (in my opinion). I really don't even see why people still have them in shows.

I do agree, but honestly it's better than a lot of things on T.V now a days.
Jersey Shore for example.
I really agree with that audience bit, the ******* laughter does annoy me so much.

I don't even think that's been on for like over a year now. Not sure, never watched it, but I remember some of my douchier friends complaining about it ending. I feel that with services like netflix and hulu, there's never been more options. Strange, considering TBBT isn't avaliable on either of those services lol.

I rarely watch TBBT, my favourite show is Firefly. I hate that it got cancled, but I make sure to watch the series at least once every few months.

I actually got the movie Serenity at my grandparents christmas, before I had even heard of firefly, and my grandparents christmas was notorious for cheap gifts because that side of the family has some issues with each other. I freakin loved it and thanks to the power of the internet I immediately searched out the series. Damn, that was a long time ago. Seems like just yesterday the internet was clogged with people petitioning for it's return.

They don't use a live audience. It's a laugh track
User avatar #147 to #129 - ThpiderMan (08/04/2013) [-]
Except, anon, it's actually a studio audience. It's pretty obvious just by watching one episode, and I just googled it to make certain.

If multiverse theory is correct, is there a universe where the multiverse theory isnt?

Yes. It's the Everyverse - the universe which contains all the other multiverses

The multiverse theory itself encompasses all universes, it wouldn't vary per universe.

User avatar #101 to #83 - wolverinebamf (08/03/2013) [-]
The reason I don't is because their is no proof, and you can not get proof.

To get to our universe, another species would need 2 things, the ability and the motive to get here. Well, it isn't hard to come up with a motive, in infinite universes their are an infinite amount of universes that would want to come here. That leaves the ability, if none of theses infinite amount of species have the ability to come to our universe, it is safe to say that nothing can have the ability, there is something making inter-universal travel impossible, just a law of nature.

Well, we can still observe the other universes, right? Nope, because if people can't get through the end of the universe to another, than neither can light or any particle at all.

You can not prove it exist as surely as you can not prove it does not exist, and there is no benefit to believing it does.
User avatar #126 to #101 - flammablefetus (08/03/2013) [-]
It's called a theory for a reason.
User avatar #128 to #126 - wolverinebamf (08/03/2013) [-]
A scientific theory has been tested and tested and has maintained possibility throughout those tests.

The multiverse theory has never been tested and can never be tested, it is as scientific as the creationist theory.
User avatar #130 to #128 - flammablefetus (08/03/2013) [-]
It's still a theory. Keyword in your sentence, "possibility". While there is nothing to prove multiple universes, there is also nothing to disprove it.

Which is why it's a theory. And to say it can never be tested is truly asinine. Nothing is impossible.
User avatar #132 to #130 - wolverinebamf (08/03/2013) [-]
It is a theory, but not a scientific theory. I am not saying it is impossible, I am saying it is impossible to test, and if you can not test something you can never call it a scientific theory.

I will repeat what I said at first but hopefully make it easier to understand.

To come to our world, an alien would need 2 things, the motive and the ability. Motive obviously exists, as in an infinite amount of universes their would be an infinite amount of people who would want to travel to our universe, that leaves the ability. Out of an infinite amount of beings that have the motive to come here, none of them have the ability, that means it is impossible to have the ability to travel to our universe. If the beings can not cross the inter-universal barrier, than neither can particles that would prove the other universes exist, if there is no particles coming from another universe there is no way to test the theory.
User avatar #125 to #3 - weirdoo (08/03/2013) [-]

User avatar #14 to #3 - dksidefortyone (08/03/2013) [-]

Personally I like this show, but regardless of what you think, look at it this way. This show is becoming fairly popular yes? That is good. Maybe people will stop watching stupid **** like snooki and **** and start watching things about science. If the media is going to brain wash people into liking something they choose, why not choose something that at least could encourage people to look more into something than matters, like science rather than how many guys you can **** and how big of a bitch you can appear compared to the other bitch.

I really hate that show. It takes jokes that only smart people should get, but dumbs them down so that stupid people think they understand. It presents itself as a show that nerdy people should love, but does the exact opposite.
#48 to #12 - lollerik (08/03/2013) [-]
?.. The purpose of the show is to entertain people of all sort, not just some minority. nearly everything is that show is exaggerated to the point where it becomes entertaining.
It's all based on modern day stereotypes such as: "Nerds" not being able to speak to women, living in their moms basement, or being extremely autistic.

User avatar #24 to #12 - Kairyuka (08/03/2013) [-]

User avatar #41 to #24 - ssjkirby ONLINE (08/03/2013) [-]
Exactly. It makes less intelligent people feel better about themselves. The show portrays highly intelligent scientists as social inept.

Raj can't talk to girls at all.
Howard lives with his mom and is creepy.
Sheldon, the smartest one, has about a million things wrong with him.
Leonard is relatively normal, but doesn't know about sports and other smaller things like that.

And then Penny, who knows nothing about science, is often the voice of reason.
User avatar #42 to #41 - Kairyuka (08/03/2013) [-]
I'm not sure if you're saying that positively or negatively.
User avatar #43 to #42 - ssjkirby ONLINE (08/03/2013) [-]

I think the shows creators are pretty smart. They take advanced subjects and dumb them down enough so that the common man can enjoy them. It's also pretty funny as well.

Do you own a car? What if every time you went to an auto shop to buy a car, they gave the stock number and dimensions instead of telling you what car model the part was meant to go in? They dumb it down to just the model instead to appeal to a broader customer base, instead of just technical experts. I don't see mechanics getting butthurt over this.

People with "im smart so only I should enjoy this thing i'm smart about" opinions like yours piss me off.
User avatar #19 to #15 - linktheherooftime (08/03/2013) [-]
Of course I've known people (quite a few actually) who after watching the show think they know everything about that particular subject. It really pisses me off because it gives those people the idea that they know more about that subject than someone who is actually familiar with the subject.

While the show is far from perfect, it does have some good things going for it as far as nerdy representation is going.

1. We're shown to have a culture. And not a culture that exists because other people hate who we are, but a culture that exists because we love something. Most other shows show nerds as outcasts who only band together because no one else will put up with them.
2. Nerds are successful. Maybe I've just been watching the wrong shows, but most things I've seen have people who are openly nerdy living in their mom's basement or flipping burgers.
3. Charactures are to be expected from sitcoms. They're meant to be something you can identify even if you've never seen the show before. Most other hobbies and activities have characatures of their fans represented (See: Charlie Sheen's character on Two and a Half Men), why should nerds be treated any different?
