The idea that male video game characters are 'sexualized' is kind of silly, as video games aren't actually catering to people sexually attracted to said males. Muscle-bound protagonists are much more a male power fantasy than they are eye-candy for those attracted to men.

Nobody is eye candy like Gaston!

At least ONE company is oversexualizing the male characters now too.

Capcom leads the charge. If you do it with one, do it with all.

The gender issues in video games is not equal, when it comes to strictly body-shape and physical attractiveness, yes, both males and females are objectified in the same way.

But more often than not, the busty female character is pretty much damn near useless, or overpowered as **** but needs the male's guidence because she's 'naive' or something.
While male characters are 9 times out of 10 portrayed as heroic, strong, smart and honorable.

As far as the physical stuff goes, yep, both women and men are equally as objectified, but when it comes to the other things, like personality, strength and role, its a whole other can of worms.

tl;dr - **** feminazi's.

Lets be fair here, when was the last time ANYBODY saw ANYBODY looking REMOTELY similar to themselves in a Video Game?

...Okay, my filthy item daddy kind of looks like one of the Undead from Dark Souls, but that's abouti t!

Well, less feminine women can be popular and attractive too, if done right.

Let me make this easy for you:

They are trying to appeal to their demographic. And that's fine.

The reviewer did about two lines on the art style and depiction of women, less than a fifth of the overall review. She still gave it a 6/10 I believe.
#64 to #60 - delivering (08/03/2013) [-]
6.5, but that's besides the point.

She's allowed not to like the artstyle/graphics. Perfectly fine.

The problem here is that it's a women that said these things.

When the dude from Kotaku called the artist for the game a horny 14 year old, there was far less controversy.

It's weird, really.

I really hate it when people pull this ******** off. You can't just say it's a power fantasy for one gender, but an unrealistic expectation blah blah blah for the other. They are inadvertently being sexist by doing this. Double sexist especially for this game, since both genders have their share of self confident characters. plus, they're complaining about a ******* video game, a FANTASY setting, that doesn't effect them in the slightest. There will be critisim for products, but it doesn't insult your body weight. They should really calm the **** down.

What bothers the **** out of me is in games like that one new Resident Evil game where Chris is all loaded up with gear and a vest and earpiece and looks seriously over-ready for combat, and then ******* Jill is just naked and painted blue with a couple straps. What is Capcom run by 12 year olds? Then there's that other chick who is literally wearing a Lady Gaga outfit.
User avatar #26 to #21 - flemsdfer (08/03/2013) [-]
The last resident evil game I played was like that. Chick literally made nothing but sexual innuendoes "Just because there are zombies doesn't mean you can stare at my ass!" Bitch I'm bleeding out on the ground like I give a **** about you. and she was wearing stiletto heels. All the time. Running from zombies and doing navy seal diving and **** ....in stiletto heels. It actually pissed me off how much sexual catering that was done in that game.

funny thing, I've noticed that the people complaining about the DC's art were mostly men...

How about this:
I don't find blobs attractive. I don't have to like you just because you're a female. Oh, you don't shave your armpits? Fine, just don't plan on ever having sex.
User avatar #80 - azraelthemage (08/03/2013) [+] (1 reply)
Personally, I don't give a **** . Unless a game is on par with some like, say High School of the Dead, I don't see a problem with fanservice. Oh my god, that character has massive tits! So do a lot of other female characters, dumbass. Are you gonna throw a tantrum about them too?
#78 - Ken M (08/03/2013) [-]
Not that I care, but I'd guess the issue is men can work out to achieve that look while women would require major surgery.

severely what?
