yeah but I mean like when The Riddler and The Joker are literally standing side by side in front of Batman? Then again I suppose I'm just taking a ridiculous and highly unlikely theory too seriously.

Well it would explain why an asylum was involved.

Maybe he's just insane and sitting in a cell hallucinating and screaming about bats.
Post-traumatic insanity after witnessing his parent's murder.

He heard an orderly referring to him as the bat man and worked it into his insane narrative.

I developed a theory last summer when I skipped class and went to the comic book store:

What if, young Bruce Wayne, after seeing his parents die, wanted to become a vigilante but he went insane and was put in Arkham, but after a while, Alfred got lonely and got Bruce out. Now Bruce thought that he was a vigilante but he was not in the right mental state to be able to handle something so serious. So Alfred struck a deal with Commissioner Gordon: Alfred gets to release a certain criminal for Bruce to catch and defeat and Alfred donates the Wayne's fortune to Arkham.

Bruce thinks he's Batman, he thinks he's doing nearly impossible feats when really it's all in his head, Arkham gets funding and Alfred gets to see Bruce be happy.

I know, my theory has flaws, I'm working on it!

User avatar #69 to #59 - xdeathspawnx (08/02/2013) [-]
i would think that they would hire an actor to be the criminal, because I doubt an insane Bruce Wayne would be able to hunt and catch a criminal. Also, a released criminal would try to run, while an actor would try and confront batman. Could also explain while many batman villains are eccentric and flamboyant.
User avatar #93 to #69 - residentblackman (08/02/2013) [-]
YES! And villains like Bane or the Joker were actors that REALLY got into their roles
User avatar #108 to #93 - ButtonFly ONLINE (08/02/2013) [-]
That's basically what Alfred Claims to have happened in "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader."
He claims that Bruce went mad upon witnessing his parents death and somehow believed he was a vigilante called Batman. Alfred pitied Bruce and gathered a few of his old acting buddies from his days as an actor and paid them all a great sum of cash to become Batman's opponents. Alfred, himself, became Batman's arch-nemesis, the Joker.

It's from a very trippy and more than a bit emotional comic called "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader," In which Batman's soul sits in on his own funeral as all the important people in his life pay their respects. Alfred claims to have been the Joker, even though Batman can clearly see the Joker sitting in the front row.

This story already exist, Alfred dress himself into the Joker's costume because the Joker is dead, and Batman go a little crazy and paranoïd about it, if I remembered it well.
