Black Jack Pershing, James Vandegrift, Howlin' Mad Smith, Chesty Puller, and Washington need to be on that list.

My favorite was when he brought the 6 barreled anti-aircraft cannon to ground battle. When asked why in a press conference, he replied "not being a military man, i can understand why you would ask that. You wouldn't know that you can aim those barrels right down at ground level."
User avatar #34 to #31 - kommandantvideo (07/31/2013) [-]
The germans did that all the time with their flak cannons in WWII
User avatar #59 to #34 - trostell (08/01/2013) [-]
They only did that with the 88mm Flak guns, if I recall correctly. The 20mm and 40mm guns didn't have the same penetration that the 88 did, and instead used higher-velocity purpose-built guns in place of the massive AA guns.
User avatar #62 to #59 - kommandantvideo (08/01/2013) [-]
No they used the smaller FlaK guns as anti-personal auto cannons

What he said. And it's related because General Mattis(callsign Chaos) was in charge of the Marines' operations. Also Mattis should be CMC in my opinion

Generation Kill, a miniseries about the Marine Corp's 1st Recon Battalion's experience in Iraq. It's got seven parts, each an hour long, and one of the writers was David Simon (one of the producers of The Wire, so you know it's going to be good)

It was at the very end, and people took it seriously and thought I was gonna shoot up the school or something. Needless to say the my filthy item daddyistration kicked me out because they thought I was a "threat" to the safety of the other students..

I hate it when schools do **** like that. They decided to kick me out without even talking to me about it. Second to last day of school too. Haha, Oh well I still graduated.

he is a legend of the corps. This was one of our "rules of behavior" in afghanistan He should be our commandant not that pussy Gen Amos who is ruining the Corps.
Another of his quotes I love is "I come in peace. I didn’t bring artillery. But I’m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you **** with me, I’ll kill you all."
Mattis was the modern day Chest Puller and we miss our mad dog.

So...if I ever meet the president...
User avatar #4 to #3 - lifeofliam (07/31/2013) [-]
hmmm im going to have to say no comment. you do what you see fit to do. i cannot tell you what to do. the thought behind this train of thought is if i meet someone for the frist time i dont know what they plan to do at that time so if i have to i have to have a plan in my head on how i would defend my life and take theirs if necessary . as for you meeting the president, i cannot tell you one why or the other what to do.
User avatar #37 to #3 - ilovehitler (08/01/2013) [-]

User avatar #15 to #10 - ishalltroll (07/31/2013) [-]
I wonder who thumbed me down. General Mattis is a badass and all, but his strategy is what got the US military wound up in the long occupation period it spent there. He just stormed through the country leaving towns and cities behind with enemy force still sprawling within them just to get to Baghdad as fast as possible.
The US military even handed out guns to some Iraqis so they could take out the pro-saddam citizens.
User avatar #82 to #15 - koleywoley (08/01/2013) [-]
www.army.mil/article/69681/Learning_Under_Fire_/

Mattis founded COIN, the strategy that the military uses now in foreign operations, where (summed up), they ensure that they leave an operational town behind when they move on, including, but not limited to: providing citizens with food and the tools needed to grow more of it, tearing up opium/drug fields to provide crop area, and eliminating any Taliban in the area.

The long-term engagement was to ensure they DIDN'T leave Iraq a ******** .
