>Alright, might as well debug it
>WHAT THE HELL IS VECTOR CODE? AND WHY IS C++ TELLING ME TO INSERT IT?IM JUST TRYING TO PROGRAM THE ******* TITTLE SCREEN! WHY DOES IT NEED RANDOM ******* NUMBERS, THAT'S PROBABLY GOING TO BE IN THE RANDOM BATTLE SEQUENCE CODE, WHICH IS SEPARATE TO THIS!

"Alright, lets see... Ah, there's your problem, you have not completely given up on your social life, memorized every single line of code for C++, Linux, and HTML, in existence, sold your soul to Cthulhu, and made the necessary virgin sacrifices to the void. I'm so glad i moved on to VMX programming after those horrible experiences at school...
Those damn Commas that kept disappearing and the slashes that you by some ******* miracle managed to put backwards, and then you could never fint the damn thin when you went looking for it in the code, wasting hours on being frustrated and feeling like a Blind Lesbian in a fish-marked, having no clue at all what to do with yourself.

There'd be no point to any asshole that isn't familiar with the subject in passing at least to comment other than to go "Hurr I dun get it."
Hence, the only people commenting are people who "get it"
Get it?
#57 to #45 - vwgreen (07/31/2013) [-]
Or it's another pissing contest for people who think they've programmed because they can send text to a screen. Most people are talking about scripting or HTML-related languages.

Ask them what a makefile is for.
#102 to #57 - drshkidz (07/31/2013) [-]
No, I get what you're saying. I was just pointing out that since the subject matter was restricted the majority of the comments would be coming from people with some knowledge, however basic it may be.
So, y'know, that might skew your perspective. "Everyone on the site" and "Everyone who could feasibly post about this content" being a "programmer" are a tad different. I mean, we're just cresting 100 comments as I type this, that's... Not a lot of people. Compared to the views (17,862 as of now) and account for some users commenting multiple times, you're looking at less than half a percent.

faster because its copy paste, but then the code wouldn't be optimized.
User avatar #34 to #28 - themasonrocks (07/31/2013) [-]
I would do it as a for anyway rather then having to rewrite each number.
I only know for in java but,
for(X = 1,X<10,X++)
{System.out.println("Error Count : " + X)}
Seems easier to write.

User avatar #38 to #37 - themasonrocks (07/31/2013) [-]
Gotcha, counted it up in java it is less keep presses as far as I can tell to actually do it as a for.
#279 to #28 - anon (08/06/2013) [-]
Actually the copy pasted code would most likely run faster, as the CPU wouldn't have to jump back to the point where the while beginns. Also it wouldn't have to increment the counter everytime. Only reason to do it with a while is to shorten the Code => to lessen the ammount of memory the programm needs.

C++ is one of those languages where you have to know everything to do anything
User avatar #182 to #86 - hawaiianhappysauce (07/31/2013) [-]
I disagree, a lot of it is just a matter of being very resourceful with the stack overflow site because 90% of programming is using stuff other people created. I didn't know C++ but I was able to apply it in a robotics module in high school. The libraries out there are pretty easy to use.
#104 to #86 - mreggsalad (07/31/2013) [-]
Is C# much different/easier? I know someone who work in the videogame industry, and he says that some of the teams at his office use C# instead of C++ to program.
User avatar #111 to #104 - alkerstay (07/31/2013) [-]
Yeah, C# is soo much easier, I learn it when I was 12 and it took me 2 weeks to master. I had previous programming experience in Visual Basic which helps but its much better than C++
#116 to #111 - mreggsalad (07/31/2013) [-]
Really? Thank you for the input. Are there any tutorials that you recommend watching to learn C# (I mean from a complete beginner's standpoint, I have no programming experience whatsoever.)?
User avatar #120 to #116 - alkerstay (07/31/2013) [-]
I learned from reading C# advanced programming books because they give you projects to make instead of the basic programming books that talk about how the language was made. Also watch TheNewBoston on youtube, he makes everything so easy

I'm extremely nervous to be honest, my school has no high school in it so i have to go to a new town to go to a huge high school. I know almost no one because no one i know is going with me to the school. Only 4 people in which I dont talk to on a daily basis. But I bet I'll meet other people. I will probably fit in because it a school for programming and computers, we get macbook airs on the first day to do homework on and we get a free subscription to xamarin.mac (C# compiler for mac apps)
User avatar #158 to #155 - IcyDeadPeople (07/31/2013) [-]
I can relate to you. I am going into my last year of high school in Texas and have been here since freshman year. I lived in Canada but moved right after 8th grade so like you, i didnt know anyone. Remember that everyone in your grade is going through the same thing as you. Take the opportunity to be the one who approaches people and makes new friends instead of waiting for others to approach you. One last thing, and this is VERY important. Stay true to your personality and dont change it to fit in with the "cool kids". Its not worth it and youll only feel unhappy in the end. Hang out with those who share common interests with you and your high school years with be great. Trust me, by your 3rd year, high school will feel like a "same **** different day" but with all your friends. Good luck

User avatar #92 to #87 - winsauceiswin (07/31/2013) [-]
nah it wasn't that, it's only a course to introduce you to the concept of programming. later i'll take c++ and other languages and actually LEARN them. the java course was basically an easy course to give you a feel for what programming would entail
User avatar #93 to #92 - alkerstay (07/31/2013) [-]
ah, I see. Java and C++ are actually quite similar so if you understood Java then you will easy understand C++ but C++ is one of those languages where you have to know everything to do anything so it will take a while. I'm a fast learner and it took me about 1-2 months to learn

Yeah, that was pretty much my experience with c++, an entire year of me and my friends trying to figure out why my code wasn't compiling, for my part of our game we were developing for our tech course. Eventually we got sick of it, and we agreed that I would be better off going hard core on the models, sprites, back rounds, et cetera, since I was taking art courses, and was the only guy who could draw and sprite something half way decent
User avatar #272 to #103 - eringe (07/31/2013) [-]

I have never really gotten into programming, so I don't know anything about it. Hell I just found out recently that html coding for browsers is not really coding and actually just the interpreter for what the the site wants to show you, and what the browser can show you. So don't worry, you're not the only one.

I have this odd feeling a lot of them have never programmed anything before - and they're just taking this chance to seem like they know what they're talking about.

Which tends to happen whenever a post about a certain trade or skill comes to the frontpage. Everyone becomes a: Programmer, gunsmith, blacksmith, engineer, historian etc.
User avatar #161 to #150 - Nihatclodra (07/31/2013) [-]
I've taken Computer Programming, Metal Fabrication (Forged both knives and working miniature cannons in that class), Autobody, and Electronic (which also covered Robotics) classes in highschool.

Do I remember all of it? No. Do I remember enough to figure things out should I try? Yes.

Now the better question is, why did I feel the need to type this out? ... I need to go to bed...
User avatar #193 to #161 - thatoneiranianguy (07/31/2013) [-]
Well just because you took those trait classes in highschool and never made some sort of job/career out of them doesn't make you a professional or even a moderate that's been screwing around with what ever for a lengthy time.

Personally I don't know too much programming, I'm more into scripting which is a big deal with the mod community for a lot of games.

As for your question why did you feel that you needed to type that out? Well here is a list of possibilities:
1. You felt the need to sound intelligent and skillful.
2. You were bored and wanted to talk about something irrelevant (somewhat related to 1.)
3. What you typed out is infact related to the content however masked by your clever ruses you have successfully indirectly hidden the point within your comment.
4. I don't really have a 4, I just don't like ending on odd numbers.
User avatar #273 to #193 - Nihatclodra (07/31/2013) [-]
I never said I was professional, I said that I know enough to figure things out should I try. Doesn't mean I'm gonna be programming a sentient AI any time soon.

and I think in my tiredness I felt the need to type it out because it seemed like you thought nobody on FJ would know what they're talking about. Now that I've gotten some sleep, the notion was stupid.

C is a brilliant language, I love how it's paved the way for all other languages.

It's not like the error message explains what your error was...

lmfao, that's why it tells you what line the error is on:p

What if I told you that you had a linker error?

Not C++ but still sort of relevant, this took me about an hour and a half to do in the Unreal Development Kit and all it does is pull up an empty level where a bot and I can run around and shoot each other.

That's the reason why I don't like the udk.
I mean just look at it.
This is supposed to be source code, damn it.
( jk, kind of )

Is that low-level programming? because my dad had to learn languages to program stress programs for steel pipes when he became an engineer

I am probably part of a tiny minority but I really enjoy trouble shooting my code, it feels like a puzzle that is very satisfying to solve

It feels great when you turn a code with 2 errors, to 30 errors, to zero

code works because the program language was programmed to make it work, and that works because you programmed it with the computer. and the computer works because of the electricity which flows through the different paths, but youll need to be an engineer first for that.

point being, you start with red blue and yellow, then you mix them to get diifferent colors and those colors mix to make even more complex colors until you get something like the internet to work.
