Technically, they would be cousins once removed, as they are removed by one generation. Hercule's child and Ariel would then be second cousins. Just saying. But the Diagram helps a lot. =D

Actually in Greek mythology Triton is the son of Poseidon (God of the Sea) and Amphitrite (the Sea Godess). Therefore since Ariel is the daughter of Hercule's father's (zeus) brother's(Poseidon) Son(Triton) she would actually be Hercules's first cousin once removed.

By a completely unrelated circumstance, two of Disney's animated features (after being created years apart) have main protagonists who are blood relatives. The simple fact that Disney may have not known about this generates a lot of interest for people.

Ariel is two generations younger than Zeus.

he's right.

Second cousin would be Hercules's child's relationship to Ariel.

Basically, the difference is in the generation. Second cousins are in the same generation, while cousins removed are not... It's sort of hard for me to explain without a diagram...

I'm kind of attracted to Ariel as if she's a real person. She's like super gorgeous, because of the way she's animated and everything.

First cousin once removed. They're not the same generation.

Hercules's son/daughter would be Ariel's second cousin.

Second cousins. Ariel's dad is Triton, so he is Hercules' cousin. Therefore Ariel is his second cousin. Twice since the Hercules movie made Hera his mom.

That explains their ginger hair. but not him <-

One thing that annoyed me about the little mermaid franchise was that Ariel's mother was named Athena, I know it was probably a "different" name beginning with A, like all the others but It always annoyed me that the idea that not only would Athena get married, it would be to her arch-nemesis' son.

If I'm not mistaken as I'm not well versed on Athena, didn't she stand to lose her powers had she lost her purity?

Athena was one of the three holy maidens/virgins (along with her sister Artemis and aunt Hestia) meaning they vowed to a life of celibacy. I don't know what would happen if they ever did have sex but seeing how Artemis treats her hunters who were raped, it'll end badly.

Meh, never really liked Zeus in the sense that he was the biggest man whore of all time. I mean why trick your sister into marrying you when you're just gonna end up cheating on her anyway?
