Football players sometimes pretend they're hurt so they can gain an advantage, such as a free kick. However, there are so bad injuries in the sport, such as this

I do agree soccer is a pussy sport with a lot of faking and such, I feel I have to point out, that some of the worst sports injuries are to be found in soccer(yes, soccer). Soccer is one of the only games you play with the feet. Since you focus so much on the ground, you're much more vulnerable. If one player decides to just **** up another player in soccer, his guard will most likely be totally down, unlike hockey or american football where you're always prepared for contact. Also, players go from standing almost still to running at top speed in a very short time. This ever changing pace of soccer, makes it a lot easier to get injuries to your knees and such. All grown up men in my country have ****** up knees, shins and feet cause they played soccer when they were young.

That may be true but think about hockey. They have blades on their feet. A few years ago a player I think on Detroit got his neck cut. He should have been dead before the medics could get to him on the ice but saved himself because he knew where to put his fingers. How many people die from getting kicked in the shins?

Your'e right, every time I play hockey I'm focused on getting hit and hitting people, not trying to get the small black puck. I'm also always ready to check someone every time there is a possession change, instead of reacting to the situation. The people that I used to play hockey with are in perfect health, those constant contact with other players, not to mention the fact that getting hit by a 60 mph (that's a low average btw) puck in a location with a simple piece of cloth to protect you. But I'm sure that 120 lb men jogging around can really do a number on you, and cause more extreme injuries then a 230-280 guy slamming into you with a weapon while he is going 15 mph. Soccer really is a very dangerous sport, I mean, a kick really hurts, and it is pretty easy to break your ankle too by turning too fast, this is a thing that happens exclusively in soccer. (fun fact, in every sport, there is at least one guy that wants to hurt you, in hockey, the guy is just faster, and has a weapon)

tl;dr I disagree, soccer isn't a dangerous sport. You **** with someone in a game, better be able to defend yourself.
#70 to #13 - anon (07/29/2013) [-]
I'm sure that fat guys falling over on ice with Dildo sticks in their hands is very dangerous, so much more dangerous than strong athletes full on sprint at you and breaking your leg in two.

tl;dr Adjectives are fun

#252 to #13 - anon (07/29/2013) [-]
No soccer isnt a dangerous sport. Its a ******* fun sport. I pressume you play Hockey cause you think its fun and not because its dangerous?

If you think that Danger is a quality trademark of hockey, then good for you. The majority of sportsfans in the world seems just to like the quality trademarks of soccer more.

This is Bert Trautmann, he was a goalkeeper, in 1956 he was knocked out and severely injured he neck while diving for a save, he however kept on playing despite the fact that he had obviously injured it badly, it was only noticed 3 days later that he had in fact broken it.

#185 to #161 - redsoxandbolts (07/29/2013) [-]
Really? I understand your opinion on Marchand, if he played on another team I'd probably hate him too. But what other players are like that?
User avatar #267 to #185 - bruinsbruins (07/30/2013) [-]
Exactly. Every team has a rat that gets under the skin of the other players; Marchand is just notorious for it. Perhaps the best was Sean Avery. Thank the **** god he got kicked out of the NHL, but my point is, every ranger fan loved him.
User avatar #264 to #161 - bruinsbruins (07/30/2013) [-]
Marchand is just our hack. Every, and i mean EVERY team has its Marchand.. so don't single him out. Like i said, you only like them because they got injured. That's the most idiotic reason to like a hockey player. Our entire team is respectful, and has the same passion. If it was anybody else in Campbell's position, on any team, they would've done it too.
#266 to #264 - gongshowsami (07/30/2013) [-]

Marchy, Kelly Lucic and Chara are 4 of the dirtiest players in the league. scumbags. Bergy and Soupy are good Canadian guys who will do anything to help their team win. they are FTB. thats what I respect. Dont you dare say the Bruins are a clean playing hockey club because we both know thats a straight up lie
User avatar #273 to #270 - bruinsbruins (07/31/2013) [-]
First off, the only real "clean" franchise is the redwings. For 99% of the time, they're as clean as it could get. Now onto the next thing, Marchand is obviously a hack. Like i said, every team has one. It sparks energy. Lucic is not, however. He's just an enforcer, and one of the few players left in the NHL that follow through with their hits. Kelly and Chara, however? Show me an instance where Kelly was a hack. When you say Chara, i'm assuming you're referring to his hit on Pacioretty. Read the entire story on that hit, and what Pacioretty did to chara the game before. Chara didn't mean to hit him into the turnbuckle, he did however mean to hit him hard for revenge.

Sorry for the long read, and i know we'll never agree, so i'm gonna drop it. Thanks for being a hockey fan on fj though, its depressingly rare.
User avatar #256 to #161 - PunisherRG (07/29/2013) [-]

Old footballers were rock hard.

Bert Trautmann in the 1956 FA Cup Final for example.
Trautmann, diving at an incoming ball, was knocked out in a collision with Birmingham's Peter Murphy in which he was hit in the neck by Murphy's right knee. Trautmann, dazed and unsteady on his feet, carried on for the rest of the match. After the match, as the pain did not recede, the following day he went to St George's Hospital, where he was told he merely had a crick in his neck which would go away. Three days later, he got a second opinion from a doctor at Manchester Royal Infirmary. An X-ray revealed he had dislocated five vertebrae, the second of which was cracked in two.

ROCK HARD

I'm not the best person to talk to about football , but you need to be partly insane to be a goalkeeper, most of the time its pretty much random guess on what to do, and your the last line of defense between winning and loosing. That **** is crazy.

Injury faking in soccer is overly dramatized. Of course, there are those famous "divers" (Neymar, etc) but often times they fall from an actual stimuli. Slide tackles are some intense **** . There have been people who have literally gotten they ankle bones poke out of the legs from slide tackles and there have been players in history that opted to stay in the game despite serious injury. Also, they're only doing it for their team if they are faking it, so they could actually be seen as somewhat "heroic" by throwing away their pride and acting like pussy **** just so their team has a chance of a free kick.

Well, I suppose it's right to call it football; there's a ball and you use your feet to control it. I mean, it's more logical than american football where you only use feet during kickoffs (as far as I know). Why don't we start calling it american rugby? It resembles it much more closely.
