I think tetris is eh pretty cool guy, kills blocks and doesn't afraid of anything

September 13 via mobile 1;
In comp sci.
Professor asks, can anyone tell the difference between methods
and variables? Everyone around is scribbling notes. ************
in front of me is playing tetris. Barely pays attention. Raises his
hand and says, methods have parentheses around their
parameters. Professor says, exactly. ************ never looked
up from tetris. Gets a long block and takes away four rows.
************* s my idol.

I feel like that's a very odd question. Not to get all "look at me I know things", it's completely understandable not to be able to answer this, but only if you don't know what variables and methods are to begin with. I assume he expects the students to know what these things are... so this just seems like a really arbitrary question. It seems akin to asking what the difference between addition and negative numbers is. Those are just two things I wouldn't expect people to get mixed up.

Then again, looking back on it, there were a lot of stupid things I got mixed up. I'm sure everyone has those things that they just didn't process properly the first time they heard it. So maybe this is just a common mix-up for this teacher.

It might be that he asked just to make sure people were paying attention. I know my music teacher would ask odd questions during class that I found the answers to be obvious, but others would have to think on them for a while.

You won't regret it when you are making 50K+ out of college.

I'm doing Computer Engineering (which is basically comp science and electrical engineering combined) which is the top payed degree out of college.

im just really afraid of the work load. a lot of people tell me that electrical engineering is really difficult and im going to start living in the university library. the last thing i want to do is flunk out because i couldnt study
User avatar #124 to #123 - rplix (07/28/2013) [-]
Yes it is very hard...one of the hardest engineering majors.

But if you keep that mindset, then you may not do as well if you would if you want to stick with it and succeed.

One of the engineering professors during my college visit said it is about a 40 hour work week, that includes class time. So 40 hours a week going to class, doing homework, and studying. When it all adds up, it doesn't seem that bad.
User avatar #125 to #124 - Kabutops (07/28/2013) [-]
if anything, i can just transfer to comp E.
but ill stick with it and give it my best

Yeah if you enjoy the software side of computers more than the hardware, I would look more towards computer engineering, but don't settle for just computer science because even though there are many jobs, the demand is quite low compared to engineering degrees.

From what I've been told, Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering have very similar classes and labs, just Electrical Engineering goes more into quantum physics/mechanics.

Hey, if you are interested in what you are studying, you will want to do homework.

That's what is so different from high school.

I'm actually not in college yet, if you were wondering.

me neither. the more i learn about college, the more i realize high school teaching is just trash

Methods are fuctions within Classes...

Variables are containers for data types.
