General Grievous was probably one of the coolest villains, and still one of my favorites, but god ******* dammit did he have the dumbest fight with Obi Wan... like holy **** it looked like a videogame boss battle, where his hands are the weak point you target, and you have to get all 4 before finishing him off with a shot to the heart.

He could have killed Obi Wan if he knew how to use his damn arms (reckless speculation)

Such a letdown after the cartoons. Taking on six jedi at once, wielding five lightsabers. And then Mace Windu curbstomped his ass.

More likely that you will just own a lightsaber that does nothing. One must have power with the Force to activate a lightsabers 'blade'.
User avatar #6 to #3 - xdeathspawnx (07/24/2013) [-]
not true. It just takes lots of training to be able to use one correctly because all of the weight is in the hilt, unlike a real sword where the majority of the weight is in the blade.
User avatar #41 to #6 - RequieminMortis (07/25/2013) [-]
The blade is weightless and has a very strong gyroscopic effect due to the nature of plasma; one has to be able to compensate for both of these in order to wield a lightsaber without being a danger to themselves and everyone around them, and generally, only Force users are capable of doing so (Grievous being an exception, since he has extensive cybernetic augmentation to his strength and dexterity). Not to mention the Jedi and Sith have a monopoly on the knowledge of making lightsabers.

Even if it IS possible for an unaugmented, non-Force user to use a lightsaber, blasters are far easier to use and will kill a person as dead as a lightsaber without having to get close to them; it's the same reason firearms have become the weapon of choice in the last few hundred years. There's zero reason for someone to invest in learning to use a weapon that has as much of a chance of killing them as it does the person they're trying to kill.
User avatar #89 to #41 - brenton (07/25/2013) [-]
I agree with everything except your comparison to the evolution of our weaponry from swords to guns. If swords were able to deflect bullets the same way that lightsabers deflect blaster fire (and I guess if we were force sensitive, too), I bet some people would still choose the sword.
User avatar #91 to #89 - RequieminMortis (07/25/2013) [-]
I'm pretty sure one HAS to have Force sensitivity or cybernetics to deflect blaster fire with a lightsaber (my theory is that they predict where the blaster bolt is going to hit once fired, and move their saber to that location a split second before their opponent fires).

And even if people could use swords to deflect bullets, firearms would still be the weapon of choice simply because they require zero training to use (as opposed to years of training to use a sword effectively), are much simpler to make and maintain, and don't require you to be in arm's reach of your opponent. A few people would still use swords, yes, but they'd be significantly outnumbered by the people who prefer guns, and in Star Wars we've seen what happens when a skilled lightsaber user has enough people shooting at them; same thing would happen to the guys using swords to stop bullets.
#10 to #3 - brenton (07/24/2013) [-]
All you need to do is press the button...
Controlling it without hurting yourself is what was supposed to require force sensitivity.
