Naw, CoD'll probably get smaller and smaller as the time goes by. Call of Duty 483: Revenge of Dildo man'll probably only bee 2gb. .5gb for the hour long campaign and the other 1.5 for DLC and multiplayer.

By that point the game will only be like, 2 gigs. The dlc, which will have stuff like all the weapons, the characters, the graphics, and the audio will be like, 2000 gigs. And then they'll throttle your speed because you aren't a premium member. And each minute adds 20$ to your purchase because of "Network Usage Fees"

You also have to consider the fact that technology in graphics and mass data transfer will be upgrading as well. With 1000x faster internet, we would be able to build domes of interactable worlds, which would take a lot of memory. That technology will continue to advance until using 1000x faster internet than what we currently have isn't enough. Remember in the 80s when you though filling up 10MB was impossible? Now look. There will always be a continuing need to speed up data transfer, enlarge data storage, and optimize the user's interface and ultimately, their online abilities.
User avatar #18 to #8 - awesomedewd (07/22/2013) [-]
I never complain about lags, they happen.

I complain about people who demand to pause the game for a few minutes because they have a few lags... **** happens! If you don't have a stable connection, live with it and just ******* play, damn it...
#77 to #8 - Rascal (07/22/2013) [-]
Sometimes the speed of you internet doesn't determine lag. Most of the time it's the distance to the server.
User avatar #107 to #77 - lolme (07/22/2013) [-]
But that actually is determined by the speed of the internet. I'm not talking about dl/up speed, I'm talking about the speed at which the electrons/ light signals move. Had it been faster, there wouldn't have been much ping. If my very sloppy math is correct, it would only take about 140ms for light to travel around the world in a fiber cable once. (I don't know if the "signal amplifyers" apply any latency to that signal though, so don't take my word for it.) Anyway, that means that if all the cables in the world were fiber and the routing was 100% perfect, the max ping you would be able to get would be around 70-75ish.
#308 to #107 - Rascal (07/23/2013) [-]
Actually, because the index of refraction of most communications grade single mode fiber is just over 3, it would take more like 500 ms for the light signal to travel around the world through fiber.

Light travels 3e8 m/s in a vacuum, but has different speeds in different media.
User avatar #370 to #308 - lolme (07/23/2013) [-]
Hmm, so light travels about 3.5 times slower in the current material used in fiber cables? That seems rather slow to me.. Care to explain how/why it's that slow?

just got off a battlefield match where a guy claimed I was lagging/lag switching because i got a shotgun kill on him. He was black daddy, so he kicked me, told me it was because of the slug rounds. I told him to state in his rules that slugs were banned because there was nothing saying otherwise. (these rules are ******* stupid to begin with, but i like killing people on their own terms to make them mad.) he got pissy, started swearing at me saying i couldn't read and that I just sucked at the game (like wtf?)
So I shot his helicopter down the next match using my tank. I then got banned.
#20 to #8 - harleyzone (07/22/2013) [-]
it'll never happen,
as soon as the hardware allows it, programmers push the envelope with software, so as the average internet speed gets faster, things like resolution, and web content go up to take advantage of that.

#19 to #8 - muffinssnuffims ONLINE (07/22/2013) [-]
You do realize that it isn't just about internet speed, but about the required amount of information to transfer which goes up as the possible capacity goes up, right?

So it's really about whether internet speed can grow faster than games' levels of details and required speeds, and I don't see that happening in the near future. There's still plenty more that could be done with higher speeds, thus higher speeds will still be used to such a capacity that lag still exists. Maybe someday it won't be an issue, but I don't see it happening within the next 2 decades that's for sure. I mean, soft body physics is still in it's infancy for single player, I can't even imagine how much it will take for that to work in multiplayer without lag.
#13 to #8 - ThekidsTEN (07/22/2013) [-]

User avatar #344 to #338 - luqmanr (07/23/2013) [-]
No you can't 1v5 the enemy, unless all the other teams are absolute crap. You can still be killed even if you're fed if the other team can do better teamwork and build up the right items to fight you.

But I don't really know the difference between lol and dota 2, that's why I said galkawhm should check it out
User avatar #345 to #344 - punnyjunky ONLINE (07/23/2013) [-]
Well really idk much about dota, that's just what my mates have told me. But, I did play a couple games and couldn't wrap my head around how to play, after playing lol it was just too wrong. Like, for instance, the mana costs in dota are ******* huge, and the stats are a bit confusing, as well as items. Also, the fact that you can kill your own minions is really weird. What ***** me up the most is how hard towers can mess you up in dota, with that attack speed and damage
User avatar #346 to #345 - luqmanr (07/23/2013) [-]
Well that's actually the kind of game that I consider to be right and balanced. It was more true to the original DOTA. You will get used to the interface if you've played long enough.

Nope. if you look at a diamond with a microscope: there are black spots of soft carbon everywhere: and these spots make the diamond easier to break. A perfect diamond would have none of these spots.
User avatar #383 to #382 - demandred (07/23/2013) [-]
i know about how you can relate diamonds to organic chemistry and all that, but i've always believed diamonds were - by definition - perfect! Aren't they? To me, what you describe sounds like an imperfection, a faulty diamond.
I've seen a lot of tables of mechanical properties of kinds of materials - presented as "this is numbers you use practically, not only theoretically" - and diamond's always had E=1000 GPa (youngs modulus).

source: two university courses on chemistry and mechanics of materials.
User avatar #384 to #383 - Nihatclodra (07/23/2013) [-]
I just looked online, and it's "Diamond Clarity". and it refers to any imperfections in the diamond, not just carbon. And apparently, i was wrong: and there ARE flawless diamonds, but they are incredibly rare.

And after searching online: it appears that Graphene is Harder, but Diamond is Stronger. This is due to the fact that Graphene is 2-dimensional, whereas diamond is 3-dimensional. I, kind of ironically, posted something below that fits quite well with this explanation: "Graphene is only a single layer. It's harder to smash a piece of paper with a hammer, than to smash a block of wood. "
User avatar #386 to #384 - demandred (07/23/2013) [-]
that paper/wood comment was pretty clarifying, liked that!
User avatar #387 to #386 - Nihatclodra (07/23/2013) [-]
Glad you liked it.
User avatar #385 to #384 - demandred (07/23/2013) [-]
woah, i wasn't expecting being right now! but it feels great! ;D
i know diamonds are produced in machines at places (there's one producer in Texas, i believe, probably tons others as well - saw on discovery channel) - and it could later be proven that the diamond was manmade... synthetic diamond or something like that.
But at what % of perfection do you stop saying "this is a diamond" and start saying "this is almost diamond, but not quite"?
#245 to #123 - Rascal (07/22/2013) [-]
Wouldn't it be "atom-thin"?
User avatar #250 to #245 - Nihatclodra (07/22/2013) [-]
Fair enough.
User avatar #324 to #123 - dapianoman (07/23/2013) [-]
but more so than a superconducter at low temperature?
User avatar #332 to #324 - Nihatclodra (07/23/2013) [-]
can hold a charge far longer than nearly all substances.

Superconductors at low temperatures win; however, Graphene wins at higher temperatures.
User avatar #335 to #332 - dapianoman (07/23/2013) [-]
so it beats out superconductors at room temperature?
User avatar #374 to #335 - Nihatclodra (07/23/2013) [-]
I believe so, yes.

plus it was discovered at the University of Manchester, the best uni in the world
User avatar #128 to #127 - Nihatclodra (07/22/2013) [-]
Yes, yes... but more importantly, I want to make a sword out of it.
User avatar #231 to #128 - twofreegerbils (07/22/2013) [-]
There is no carbon allotrope strong enough by itself to make a sword with that wouldn't break under its own weight.

All forms of carbon are brittle. You can smash a diamond with a hammer.
User avatar #256 to #231 - Nihatclodra (07/22/2013) [-]
Then have Hydrogen molecules in-between the folds of Graphene to reduce the weight?
User avatar #259 to #256 - twofreegerbils (07/22/2013) [-]
Now you're just making hydrocarbons.

If it were that easy we'd be making our own gasoline.
User avatar #325 to #259 - dapianoman (07/23/2013) [-]
huehueheuheueh i ******* see what you did there

User avatar #266 to #259 - Nihatclodra (07/22/2013) [-]
Fair enough. As I posted below: another idea I had was to make it out of a calculated combination of Wurtzite Boron Nitride, and Bucky Paper; and then wrap the blade in a single layer of Graphene for the molecule-thin cutting-edge.
#129 to #128 - godamongstmen (07/22/2013) [-]
I'm afraid I don't think that will work, much like a diamond sword wouldn't!
User avatar #130 to #129 - Nihatclodra (07/22/2013) [-]
It's near impossible with current technology, but it is possible.

I also want a Nano-carbon Tube Battery stored in the hilt, so the whole blade is electrified.
#131 to #130 - godamongstmen (07/22/2013) [-]
why is no one funding this!!
User avatar #134 to #131 - Nihatclodra (07/22/2013) [-]
Because it would cost billions of dollars, and a couple of decades of work to make (mostly due to the nano-carbon tube battery): they won't do all that just t make a sword, no matter how reality-shatteringly badass it would be.
#176 to #134 - Rascal (07/22/2013) [-]
actually its because it wouldn't work
to make a sword out of graphene you'd have to layer it on top of itself which would essentially make graphite (i hope i don't have to explain what this is) and even if you did make it hard enough it would have almost no flexibility to it and break the instant you whack something
it would look cool, but it would be the most useless sword in existence.
(and it actually wouldn't be that expensive to make given you have the right tools, albeit its still expensive with modern technology)
#186 to #176 - tranminh (07/22/2013) [-]
lol pencil sword
User avatar #249 to #176 - Nihatclodra (07/22/2013) [-]
Actually, what I was going for was a thin layer of oxygen (or some other element, I haven't put much thought into which one yet... Maybe neon, and have the electricity flowing through the Graphene turn it into a magic black glowing sword. XD) stopping the Graphene from coming in contact with any of the other layers, then staying Graphene. Graphene can stretch, and is quite flexible as a result. Also, being 1 molecule thick, would mean the cutting edge would have a thickness of 1 molecule as well: making it INCREDIBLY sharp.

If not, another idea I had was to make it out of a calculated combination of Wurtzite Boron Nitride, and Bucky Paper; and then wrap the blade in a single layer of Graphene for the molecule-thin cutting-edge.
User avatar #337 to #249 - dapianoman (07/23/2013) [-]
but why is it that graphene is stronger than graphite if graphite is just graphene but layered?
User avatar #375 to #337 - Nihatclodra (07/23/2013) [-]
Because Graphene is only a single layer. It's harder to smash a piece of paper with a hammer, than to smash a block of wood.
User avatar #389 to #375 - dapianoman (07/25/2013) [-]
.....what? first of all wood is not made of paper. therefore the analogy is irrelevant. also that being said why would you want paper armor instead of wood armor?
User avatar #390 to #389 - Nihatclodra (07/25/2013) [-]
But Paper is made out of wood. it's just that Paper is processed, whereas wood is not. Thus the analogy fits.

And considering in this situation, the "Paper" is harder to break than the "Wood": I would prefer the "Paper Armor".
User avatar #391 to #390 - dapianoman (07/28/2013) [-]
Wood is not comprised of stacked layers of paper. But graphite is stacked layers of graphene, apparently. So I'm wondering why a piece of graphene is harder than a piece of graphite. So Graphene -> graphite is not paper-> wood but it is paper -> stack of paper
User avatar #392 to #391 - Nihatclodra (07/28/2013) [-]
Graphite isn't stacked Graphene. If Graphene is stacked, it would bind with the other layers and gain a different composition thus becoming Graphite.

Graphene is harder because it is 2D and flexible, thus very hard to scratch (which is what determines hardness). Graphite is easy to scratch and break because it is not flexable, and the carbon atoms are less bonded than they are as graphene.
User avatar #393 to #392 - dapianoman (07/28/2013) [-]
uh...okay. thanks i guess

Not to mention that any idiot with a gun could kill you without trying, even with your Sword of Science.
User avatar #253 to #166 - Nihatclodra (07/22/2013) [-]
And thus why Guns need to be outlawed forever.

Swords > All
User avatar #258 to #253 - impaledsandwich (07/22/2013) [-]
I don't think you understand what I meant. The reason guns became so widely used is that, despite their early problems (no accuracy, low fire rate, unreliability, etc.), you could take any retard of the street, hand him a musket, and with about a day's training he could kill even the most legendary knight, who has trained his whole life. Stop seeing a political argument in everything.
User avatar #263 to #258 - Nihatclodra (07/22/2013) [-]
Political Argument? I was making a joke.

And I don't like guns BECAUSE any retard off the street can use them. Swords take skill, and finesse. If battles must happen, they should at least be done in style: not point, pull, repeat.

I understand that guns are never gonna stop being used, but that doesn't mean I can't wish people would go back to hacking and slashing...
User avatar #275 to #263 - impaledsandwich (07/22/2013) [-]

How do you not believe that? A new study shows it. Are you against science?
#396 to #105 - gapingg (10/24/2013) [-]
It is called graphene, it is far more durable than diamond, it is created by thinning graphite to 1 atom thick, it is by far more conductive than copper, it is the 6th most common element around (so in other words it is literally not worth the plastic it is printed on), it would dwarf any high end PC, it is bio safe (throw it on the ground!), It is highly flexible, And so ******* on...happy?
#273 to #105 - Rascal (07/22/2013) [-]
is this a real study?
