As I remember, Russia lost that war and the United Stated intervened and told Japan that they could not take Russia's land, which fueled Japanese military fervor that leaked into World War 2. Today, however, Japan wouldn't stand much of a chance against Russia on their own.

Sounds a bit like ************* RED ALERT 3 BITCHES
#109 - Slicernicer (07/20/2013) [-]
Pretty sure without nukes Japan would win due to technology, numbers, and sheer distance.

Hell, it's the Japanese. They've probably built up a resistance to nukes by this point.

japan has a small military they dont even call it an army they call it a self defence force cuz of treaties and **** . that being said the US is forced to aid japan (there are a ******* of marines in Okinawa)

Technically, we are still at war with japan, so every soldier in the military is still a WWII vet, especially the ones stationed in japan.

The treaty as signed on the uss missouri, americas biggest ever battle ship. We wanted to show it off when we brought it over to sign the treaty.

The surrender of the Empire of Japan on September 2, 1945, brought the hostilities of World War II to a close. Only South Korea and North Korea are still at war because only a ceasefire was signed.
User avatar #87 to #82 - welfarekid (07/20/2013) [-]
No no we aren't "technically still blablah" No, we did only sign an armistice but that was because the Japanese are too prideful.
WE ARE on the other hand still at a stand off towards North Korea, as we only ever signed an Armistice and that was a cease fire.

Back when they were stronger and nukes were not a thing...
User avatar #102 to #98 - NinjaHermit (07/20/2013) [-]
Define "stronger". Russia was an international power at the time, and their forces outnumbered the Japanese forces. Japan was barely out of their two-and-a-half centuries of isolation, and had only just recently began to modernize.
No one thought Japan would win at the time, and the outcome established Japan as an international power.

Hah. Of course, the tables were turned in the later Soviet–Japanese War, during WWII. Along with Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan's defeat at the hands of the Soviets was a big factor in their surrender.

Imperial Russia was never a superpower....

User avatar #111 to #104 - NinjaHermit (07/20/2013) [-]
Dude, the Russian Empire was one of the largest in history. And it had one of the largest armies in the world around the time of the Russo-Japanese war.

Russia was largely underdeveloped and it's armies were not even supplying all her troops...

Trust me i live here...
#123 to #114 - anonymous (07/20/2013) [-]
No one cares about Russia anymore. After the collapse of your economy, no one has cared about you guys anymore. It's all about China now.

You are right No one should care about Russia, just the Russians should. But if the world worked like that we would have no wars!
User avatar #120 to #114 - NinjaHermit (07/20/2013) [-]
Okay, I'll give you that. But all I was really saying was that Japan itself had just barely begun to modernize, and they were tiny in size compared to the Russian Empire.
It was the first time an Asian country had defeated a Western power. Most people in the Western world were shocked.

In any case, things are different now for both countries. Indeed, maybe Russia would win... Though a modern war between Japan and Russia would certainly put the US in a tricky spot.
User avatar #94 to #68 - Haruhi (07/20/2013) [-]
If Russia DID attack Japan, the USA would be obligated to defend Japan as we are allies and have a defensive treaty with them.
#72 to #68 - zenkon (07/20/2013) [-]
Maybe, we don't know their secrets!....

User avatar #95 to #62 - psykobear (07/20/2013) [-]
Here, let me help:
Remember the war we both were in 70 years ago?

Just pay me the scientists paychecks, they obviously weren't trying very hard.

correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't japan and Russia signed a peace treaty in 1939 after their conflict about borders? I think that during 1940-1945 Japan and Russia weren't attacking each other all.
User avatar #60 - lordvimless (07/20/2013) [-]
japan does not have a standing military
******** clouse under the usa and empire of japan treaty
#46 - anonymous (07/20/2013) [-]
I forget the name but this reminded me of the aftermath of ww1 when Brotainnsigned a treaty with Russia but forgot to include a part of England that was listed individually so the treaty was signed in 1970 where the English towns mayor said "At last the people of Russia can sleep soundly in their homes"
