Jesus was historically real weather you believe he was the son of God, a prophet, or a crazy wanderer or not.

Actually, that is extremely debatable. Let me guess, you heard from your pastor or theology teacher that Jesus of Nazarath (not even accurate birth place) was 100% real? In reality, the only written documentation of a miracle worker by the name of Jesus was from Paul, and even then that was him claiming he heard the story directly from the disciples of Christ himself AFTER the said man died . Everything thing else about him came from, a minimum, of thirty years after his death.
User avatar #98 to #88 - HugeBalls (07/20/2013) [-]
There are Roman records of his execution.

Kudos! The number of red thumbs you've got is starkly indicative of how ignorant many people are ignorant of history and science.

There are other religions beside Christianity that agree that Jesus was real, not as the son of God but as a holy man.

What authority do you have to make such a claim? I would be happy to go over any evidence you find convincing to support it. To whoever said there are roman records of Jesus' execution, you are just making **** up. There aren't any roman records of Jesus.
#317 to #140 - anon (07/20/2013) [-]
Virtually all classical historians and biblical scholars agree that, in a purely historical context, Jesus existed. Numerous Roman texts and other peripheral sources support the idea that Jesus Christ was a real man, a Jew born a few years before 1 AD, who was baptized by John and crucified by the Romans around 30-35 AD. There is no general agreement on things like his birthplace, lifespan, and background, but you'd be hard pressed to find a modern historian who doesn't agree upon his existence.
User avatar #329 to #317 - mcmatty (07/21/2013) [-]
Richard Carrier holds a PhD in ancient history from Columbia University, and specializes in the origins of Christianity, and the intellectual history of Greece and Rome, among other things. He holds the firm stance that there isn't anywhere close to enough evidence to suggest that Jesus was a real man. You are committing a logical fallacy by suggesting that the popularity of an idea has bearing on its validity. I need specific evidence, not simply "numerous Roman texts."
#168 to #58 - anon (07/20/2013) [-]
Not necessarily so. There is no evidence to believe it is true, just a few tales all written down many decades after he allegedly lived. The gospels do not even agree with each other, they do not agree with history and geography, and there are no eye witnesses. So there is still doubt whether he actually did exists. Wikipedia 'Apolonius of Tyanna' and have a good read of that.

Why are the comments filled with either christian people freaking out that someone made a joke about their religion, or idiots that think even mentioning religion in a joke makes it instantaneously trying to be as "edgy" as possible? Who gives a **** , it's a joke, if you don't think it's funny, just move on and click next, hell, thumb it down and click next.
#91 - anon (07/20/2013) [-]
A lot of atheists know that Jesus was a real person who did exist, we just don't believe he had powers and **** .
Even if the content is wrong i still found it funny. What's wrong with that?
