Seriously? Not everyone can make gains with chest quickly. I've gone for about 1.5 years, started with basically no muscle, but made huge gains in everything but chest. I don't usually see people do 2 plates, usually it's somewhere between 135 and 205...

Just a tip for big chest. Benchpress is something that usually won´t give you a large chest unless you know how to squeeze and contract the muscle properly, and you´ll be working more tricep if you´re not doing this. So Dumbbell presses, dumbbell flyes and cable crosses will be much more efficient. I had the exact same problem with no chest at all because I did Benchpress all the time. But after I switched I made some serious gainzz.

Everyone starts somewhere, and you should be less worried about their weight and more encouraging toward them. When I go to the gym and see someone weaker than me, I like to think "at least they are here, trying to better themselves rather than living the american stereotype and being fat and lazy".

Uhmm.. Very wrong. Say you have a 5.7 guy and a 6.2 guy. If they both worked out for 1 year, the 5.7 guy would appear to have lifted longer than the 6.2 guy. Have you every watched Mr. Olympia? Most of the contestants are short because a 6.2 guy would have to put on much more mass in order to look big.

Shorter people are smaller, therefore weaker. I have been lifting seriously for the past year, more than doubled my bench. My tall friends who don't lift can still crush my PRs.

Wrong. Shorter people are much stronger than tall people. Our weight/strength ratio is MUCH bigger. Thats why the military prefer shorter people than taller people. They are basically worthless in tough situations. No point for tall people to waste their lives, if u nom sayin?

we value things like athletic ability because we have instincts in our brains from back when skills like "moving heavy things", running fast, and good aim were necessary for survival. women have instinctual desire to mate with men like this because back in caveman days those were the men who would ensure not only their personal survival but would procreate healthy and capable offspring who would, in turn, survive. so no, its not that weird.

I don't see what's bad about having athletic bodies as an ideal. It's better to have athletic ideals than the anorectic models you see everywhere (because there are different kinds of athletic bodies, don't have to be ripped to be athletic.)
I see what you mean about the "macho acting", though. The "brahs" and all that ****, but those people make the others who just want to work out to feel better about themselves look bad. It's a real pain in the ass to be at the gym when they are around, chugging their protein shakes, blasting music and moaning out when lifting something, just to prove to everyone "me so stronk". They also hog all the equipment, and they give you judging stares if you can't lift as much as them.

I found the weight converter on my phone. The bags I lift range from 33 to 66 pounds and I can lift two at once if the bastards are nice enough to include handles, so yeah I'm alright.

We use 20kg plates in the UK (45lbs), and a standard olympic bar is also 20kg.
A 1 plate bench is therefore 60kg, and the average man can press something like 45kg.
I agree thats weak as **** and dragged down by the huge amount of people who never go to the gym, but it's still the average.
Looking around my gym I'd say the average bench press for a regular gym goer is 1.5-2 plate.

For people with little to no gym experience that don't really do any manual labour, this is hard. But it is easily achievable within like 1-2 months if you frequent the gym enough.

Fair enough if you're not into the overly huge, muscular massed up 'freaks' but being that big doesn't just happen overnight and you can stop increasing your maxes after you reach your desired size.
