Soo... i beat the last of us in sessions. It was fun killing zombies and trying to shoot mother ******* .
but i dont think it was even close to the best game ever.

It looked nice and played well, but i didnt give two ***** about the story. it was predictable and i felt nothing fo the characters.
I heard people were crying playing this game, i was too focused on staying alive to feel emotion.

personally the walking dead made me cry at one of the endings
User avatar #63 to #38 - tonkkax (07/17/2013) [-]
Out of all zombie games The Walking Dead seems to be the most successful one in terms of taking a "serious" stance at what would happen if zombies start to appear. The presentation in TLoU was excellent but the gameplay and story fell short. What i really hated was that most of time you're killing people instead of zombies. One review even mentioned the bandits before talking about the zombies. If the zombies aren't the real threat in a zombie game, something has gone wrong.
User avatar #124 to #63 - nigeltheoutlaw (07/17/2013) [-]
It wasn't a zombie game though, it was just an apocalyptic game. That's like being mad that you didn't spend all of Fallout fighting ghouls.
User avatar #210 to #124 - tonkkax (07/18/2013) [-]
No one talks about Fallout being a zombie game, may i remind you.

how was the walking dead game
is it a spoiler for the show?
User avatar #104 to #80 - vegardwd (07/17/2013) [-]
The walking dead game isn't even set in the same universe as the TV series. The game is set in the same universe as the comic, (The TV-show is loosely based on the comic) but apart from a few cameos, it has nothing to do with the storyline of the comic.
And it is ******* great, way better than the half-assed TV-show
User avatar #106 to #104 - sanguinesolitude ONLINE (07/17/2013) [-]
interesting. which game is it? i've seen two.

also will it terrify me (i'm kinda a pussy when it comes to scary games)
User avatar #110 to #106 - vegardwd (07/17/2013) [-]
the game based on the comic is the critically aclaimed one by telltale games, it deserves all it's fame and it is absolutely fantastic. I don't know if you would find it scary, but the game is very story- and character-driven just like Kirkman's comic book and puts you in intense situations.

The other one, is based on the TV show and is called The Walking Dead: Survival Insinct, and it is made by activision. It tells the story about Daryl and Merle prior to the events of season 1. I haven't played the game myself but based of reviews and videos I have seen, it looks absolute **** . A cheap and quick cash-grab, see video

TLoU is overhyped.

I thought it was just kinda ok in both the mechanics and story.

Well polished and above average, but not really that exceptional.

i felt like you were playing a film is the only pro and the AI was SO **** !
#146 to #101 - Rascal (07/17/2013) [-]
I don't understand why people keep saying the AI was bad, It's been a very long while since I've played a game where the AI behaved so realistically in open combat. If you tried to beat a guy with a wooden plank he'd just laugh and come at you with a lead pipe, but if you pulled a gun on him, he'd panic and throw himself into the nearest cover to avoid getting shot (even if the gun was empty). If you tried to fire an empty gun, the humanoid enemies would hear the hammer click against the empty chamber and they'd take advantage of the fact you had to reload to rush you, and when outnumbered and outgunned, enemies would take turns shooting at you while other enemies would move around to flank you.

Say what you will, but it's a far cry from most of today's AI who run at you thinking their superman while you mow down hundreds of the mindless retards with your assault rifle *cough* Uncharted *cough*

It had its flaws, but the story and the graphics put it up there with some of the best. It blended interesting morality with a true connection between the characters you met, and for that i would say its a great game. Sure the gameplay could have been a bit better, but it was more about the relationships and learning about the world.
#139 to #79 - delivering (07/17/2013) [-]
Then they could have just put this story into a movie or a tv show instead of a game.
I really wouldn't have made much of a difference.
A game consists of both story and gameplay, and interconnecting the two. I think both story and gameplay need to be good for the game to be actually great.
Here, the gameply and the story did not complement eachother - even worse, they often conflicted eachother. Which is, in my eyes, a huge flaw of it as a GAME.
Sure, the story can be good...but does the fact that the story is told through a game add or take away anything from it? I'd argue that here, it takes away from it. And that is one of the main reasons why it's not a truly great game.
User avatar #154 to #139 - sanguinesolitude ONLINE (07/17/2013) [-]
well i enjoyed the gameplay despite its few flaws. I enjoyed sneaking around and choking bitches, exploring the world, etc. i enjoyed the importance of sound in clicker engagements and how one wrong move could send a room full of baddies running at you. I liked running around and finding different areas, enjoyed the sort of puzzles of figuring out how you were meant to get to the next area (obviously not too hard,) and just the overall feel of the game. Combat was always tense and exciting with enemies trying different strategies and actually flanking or rushing you, though i suppose it would generally be easier to just avoid fighting entirely.

I mean what flaws did you see in the gameplay, aside from your companions not triggering enemies, which I enjoyed since they didnt screw up my strategy every time they moved.
#163 to #154 - delivering (07/17/2013) [-]
Ellie just running past clickers is the main thing that actively works against the story. It makes literally no sense, story-wise.
That, and the general inconsistency of when enemies actually notice you and what they react to. Sometimes, the exact same thing at the exact same place could result in an enemz not noticing me one time, but noticing me the next time.
User avatar #177 to #163 - sanguinesolitude ONLINE (07/17/2013) [-]
i get how the ellie thing was frustrating, but i would be far more frustrated by me carefully sneaking through shiving them just to have one notice her and suddenly be surrounded by clickers without enough shivs. I more found that amusing than anything. i mean what are the options, either she waits at the beginning for you to clear the level then comes though (and yes there were some like this i know) or she is there fighting with you. While stealthed I think it would be very difficult to have an AI keep her quiet, out of line of sight, and still with you. That would be a very very complicated and a heavy AI load, and the alternative, have her with you and hiding, but occasionally pop into line of sight without triggering enemies is much easier. While i found it vaguely annoying, though more amusing, i would be really pissed if she kept alerting enemies to our presence and got me killed without warning.

I didnt have too much trouble with enemies noticing me or not, anytime say a clicker charged me i was either making noise or was too close to it and in its path. As long as i kept out of sightlines i had very little issues with enemy AI. It seemed logical and they actually tried flanking and outthinking me, i mean obviously they still died, but you gotta give them an A for effort.

to be honest it was really overrated

User avatar #93 to #92 - mads (07/17/2013) [-]
Yeah. I don't understand how people can be so aggressive towards gaming. It's like saying 'you see this book? it's the best book on the planet. You will never read anything better than this'. It's all about what you like as an inidividual. I am the same with zombie games, they just get repetative and dull.

I've only seen a lets play, but from what i saw the game was just about walking from spot A to B to see a cutscene or to pick up a ladder. The only good gameplay bits where you can actually do something are really separated.
User avatar #73 to #60 - Encarna (07/17/2013) [-]
It's the new hybrid genre "Ladder simulator with 3rd person strangling". I agree with anon the story was good, compelling and it drew you in. But from the gameplay aspect it was pretty poor.

Just like life.
User avatar #102 - pwnagraphy (07/17/2013) [-]
I played it. didn't find it that good

Guns were clunky, and it felt like it took too many rounds to kill someone

More story build up than actual fun game play. It seemed like it was just Ellie and Joel's story time instead of a post apocalyptic world. More of a movie than a game

Dem ladders

It wasn't all bad though. I liked the crafting system, and the scavenging was cool. Stealth and multiplayer could have been a little bit better, but were not bad overall
