How is that poem for ya.

Technically you're an artist then.
#53 to #27 - anon (07/16/2013) [-]
As long as the activity can be self-contained in a solely aesthetic endeavor, it is art.
User avatar #65 to #53 - luckyspirit (07/16/2013) [-]
It's my philosophy I guess. I consider people who can write well, draw well, paint, etc, to be artists.
#74 to #65 - anon (07/16/2013) [-]
I just told you what art was. It's not your philosophy or my philosophy or anything. Art is an activity of which the first (and possibly sole) purpose is to produce a worthwhile aesthetic experience. It's not to say something about the world or make us learn something (though that's always a plus). It's simply to be aesthetically pleasant. Thank you and good night.

I hate this attitude people have towards art (and other such) degrees.

You know, there are actually people that like studying "useless" stuff.
"Get a business degree, so you can earn moar moneh!"
Well **** you!
I don't need any more money, I need to enjoy my daily routine.
Do I like studying art and working in a pub?

I sure do!
I get to go around well dressed, serve expensive drinks and mildly whore myself to interesting ladies.
I also get to meet lots of people and make lots of friends.

Does working 4 hours an evening make you any more of a bitch than you'd be while spending your days in a gray office box, going trough data?

#81 to #48 - vaporous (07/16/2013) [-]
Getting a job with a business degree is a lot easier than getting a job with an art degree.
That's why most people with art degrees live with their parents for a very long time working ******** part time jobs as the picture implied.
#87 to #48 - ishotthedeputy (07/16/2013) [-]
That is not the attitude that is hated. If you're content with the path you choose, great for you. You're better than most men actually. The attitude that people hate is when an art major expects to be crawling in job offers after he graduates and then gets butthurt because he doesn't think he has an equal opportunity
User avatar #51 to #48 - smokingman (07/16/2013) [-]
PS: I didn't double check that.
The art degree was an example, I'm actually still in high-school.
I actually plan on studying history, either medieval or ancient, focusing on the European middle east.
User avatar #69 to #51 - srskate (07/16/2013) [-]

I love the stereotype that being a pizza delivery guy is a bad job.
It's the easiest ******* thing I've ever done and I get paid $8.00/Hour plus tips, which can easily hit $50 a night. I've made 75 bucks in tips in one night (on top of my wages) , good luck getting that with any other part time job for a college student.

Also, I be goin to college, ***** , and seriously, delivering pizza is awesome.

Have any of you ever actually tried asking for a drawing on your pizza box
It never ******* happens. The rare time it does is when someone actually posts about it, so saying that "All pizza delivery people can draw" is a pretty bogus statement.
Like I'm not even an art major and this still rustles my jimmies

I worked at Dominos for a while last year. We got one order where a kid asked for a smiley face to be drawn on the box. Still to this day, I have not seen a more ****** up smiley face drawn on anything.

This proves that not all pizza delivery guys can draw.

One time I gave directions asking simply "Are you okay?"
The pizza came and the box lid had a long ass paragraph written on it. some poor soul poured her heart out to a customer saying how she was lonely and how her family is never there for her and her friends disrespect her and all this other stuff in a very long, neatly written essay on the box.

It was a damn good pizza.

My work, a pizza hut, has four aviation majors, a physics major, an engineering major, a social studies major, two high school students, and 5 regular adults, of which one has a degree in social work and another has a master in business DJ 4DM1Nistration (oddly enough is not our manager)...and then there is our GM who can spell or use proper grammar...

I seriously ******* hate art so god damn much. And before you idiots start saying **** like HERP DERP VIDEO GAMES ARE ART! TV IS ART! MOVIES ARE ART! Just shut the **** up. I mean museum **** . **** specifically made to go in a museum or hang up on a wall. Sculptures, paintings, and **** like that. If you are going to school to become an artist then you're just a complete ******* idiot. You will never make it in the real world. There's a reason for the term starving artist. There are millions of other people out there who are just as good if not better than you. Millions. What do you call an art graduate? Unemployed.

Honestly the thing that drives me nuts isn't that you're making uncalled for judgements about my degree and my job, but the fact that you're doing so from ******* anonymous. You know you're wrong and you're too chicken **** to put your own name on it.
#103 to #101 - anon (07/17/2013) [-]
It doesn't matter who I am, what matters is what i'm saying. Listen to my message, don't worry about my identity. I'm trying to help people not make horrible life decisions.
User avatar #100 to #99 - thirdjess ONLINE (07/17/2013) [-]
That can literally be said about every single profession. **** , every single hobby. Why the **** is it your job to just **** on someone because your idea of a good career is to do paperwork for 50 years? The best possible job is to figure out what you love doing and then making money off of it. That is what we graphic designers are doing. We're taking our love for art and industrialising it. We will go a lot further than some paper pusher because we have that underlying passion.

As for the 'do I make **** for a museum' quip, yes I bloody well do, and have. Two separate pieces of mine have been displayed in local galleries. Dick.
#102 to #100 - anon (07/17/2013) [-]
I'm just being realistic. If you get a useful degree you'll be a lot better off. Number 2 of the highest unemployment rate is art with an Unemployment Rate of 11.1%. The only degree with a higher unemployment rate is Architecture with an Unemployment Rate of 13.9%. I'm just trying to help this person not waste his time and money on a useless degree that he will have a hard time finding steady work and a consistent paycheck. He doesn't want to have to live paycheck to paycheck working an art related job or 2 here and there. The problem is he wont make money off it no matter how much he loves it. That paper pusher has a much more secure and reliable source of income and job security. Well then that's the kind of art I hate, your museum pieces.
User avatar #104 to #102 - thirdjess ONLINE (07/17/2013) [-]
If this person wants to go and study art, and they have a passion for it, then that is perfectly fine. It's not like they only get to study one degree and that's it you're done with tertiary education forever. I am actually doing a second degree in IT right now because I want to dabble in website design.

The statistics are skewed because of the sheer amount of people who take art just to fill a class, as #45 said. You don't even know how many jobs have an art degree prerequisite; there are a lot! You're not concerned about this kid studying art, you're just using that as an excuse for your being an asshole.

You're wasting your time and money. Millions of people are out doing productive things and will be better off than you because of it. I seriously hate lazy assholes who sit around all day and dig into people for no good reason. And before you start saying **** like HERP DERP ITS MY SPARE TIME I CAN DO WHAT I WANT! Well you ********** so can ******* we.
#105 to #104 - anon (07/17/2013) [-]
Passion doesn't pay bills, money pay bills. Love art all you want it doesn't change the fact that you need a steady source of income. Keep art as a hobby, that's fine, just don't try to make a career out of it. Webdesign is fine, better than museum artists. A lot of people take an art class in college for an easy A, next semester i'm taking theater for that exact reason. A ******** easy class that I can get an easy 3 credits with. Minor in art if you really want to, just don't major in it. And I wouldn't even suggest a minor in art... i'm not wasting any time or money, i'm in college getting an actually useful degree that I can find a job with.
User avatar #106 to #105 - thirdjess ONLINE (07/17/2013) [-]
Are you so stupid to think that there are actual people out there who are nothing but artists?
#107 to #106 - anon (07/18/2013) [-]
There are people like that. You see them on the streets drawing caricatures for 5 dollars.
User avatar #109 to #107 - thirdjess ONLINE (07/18/2013) [-]
The only place I've seen a person on the street drawing caricatures is at our local biweekly artists fair where they charge well over $50 a piece and make sales.
User avatar #50 to #49 - thirdjess ONLINE (07/16/2013) [-]
Good! Pick up as many side projects as your workload allows. Also get started networking ASAP. My uni has a program to get us introduced to networking as a part of the degree but most probably don't, so look around your local, there should be a networking meet up help regularly enough.
User avatar #37 to #34 - timmywankenobi (07/16/2013) [-]
you sad uncultured anon.
#97 to #37 - anon (07/17/2013) [-]
Being cultured doesn't bring in a nice fat steady paycheck every week. Also really the only reason that people go to museums and **** is because they believe that's what "cultured" people do. They want to be associated with that life style so they conform to it. "NAHHHH MAN YOU JUST DON'T GET IT! IT'S JUST LIKE TOO DEEP FOR YOU MANNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!"
User avatar #45 to #33 - dessydegreemurder (07/16/2013) [-]
I understand if its your passion and you're serious about it.. But if you're just trying to take the easy way out of college it's a really stupid decision in the long run.
User avatar #2 - trogdorrules (07/16/2013) [-]
That, or all the drawings were done after the fact.

User avatar #30 to #2 - vulper (07/16/2013) [-]
I believe he means to say that the people taking the pictures drew the things on the pizza boxes, not the workers at the pizza place.
