Everybody is born with Herpes Zoster in a dorment state but this kind of Herpes has nothing to do with genital herpes but it can occur in the same regions. Hurts like a bitch but that's about it. It heals after max 2 months and is caused by a lack of sleep, high amounts of UV radiation or a weak immune system.

we do...they are in experimental stages and are not used currently in warfare (with the exception of the railgun-was fired once and caused so much destruction it was decomisioned....it also killed 3 crewmen when firing)

remember that show "Future weapons"?
#3 to #2 - radiohazard
Reply +6
(07/15/2013) [-]
I never heard of this railgun accident...but yeah, I think the main reason direct energy weapons are not being used yet is that we lack the means to fuel them.
The railgun showed on future weapons needed some bigass energy cells to fire just 1 shot
#132 to #2 - roflsaucer
Reply -6
(07/16/2013) [-]
...I'm pretty sure that wasn't a Railgun. Railguns aren't a very realistic weapon because of how much power they take to fire, and the size needed to fire an efficient projectile is just unethical.
#260 to #132 - rieskimo
Reply +1
(07/16/2013) [-]
First of all this sentence "and the size needed to fire an efficient projectile is just unethical." makes exactly zero sense.

Second of all, if you're talking ethics the guy mentioned that the rail gun was so devastating that it was deemed unethical for battle. That I find unlikely, though it may have been a nasty hit, I think the fact that they lost 3 guys on their side just by shooting the damn thing is the reason it was decomissioned.
#289 to #260 - lolpakka

(07/16/2013) [-]
Railguns are under developement... You need to login to view this link

However, they are not direct energy weapons, and have never been used in real warfare... I have no idea where this "accident" could happen that caused that utter destruction...

But... they are not energy weapons... they use huge electromagnets to accelerate some special metal projectile. So... the shards of broken glass could hurt them at max

Very Interesting. General Atomics Railgun Test 2013

I know that railguns are big electromagnetic slingshots(essentially) and not like a laser of doom. But looking at that video and considering Murphy's law, I think it's foolish to say that there's nothing that could possibly go wrong with a railgun that would maim or kill multiple people(on the shooting end not the shot end).

I was really just pointing out roflsaucer's *********** sentence, I find this whole story kind of iffy myself.

Especially considering there have been recent videos released of tests, so there's definitely still current development(you can't decomission something that hasn't been put into service anyway).
#345 to #260 - roflsaucer
Reply -1
(07/16/2013) [-]
The sentence makes perfect sense. The size needed of the actual Railgun to fire the projectile is too large, which makes it unethical to use. Imagine using a gun the size of a Mounted .50 cal to fire .22 cal bullets.
And just because we used the same word, doesn't mean we were talking about the same thing.

But either way, I didn't even state what I said as fact. I said "I'm pretty sure", not "I'm sure" or some other definitive statement. I was simply repeating something I've heard, I'm very aware I'm probably wrong.

The left half of Bugorski's face swelled up beyond recognition, and over the next several days, started peeling off, revealing the path that the proton beam (moving near the speed of light) had burned through parts of his face, his bone, and the brain tissue underneath. As it was believed that he had received far in excess of the radiation dose that would normally kill a person, Bugorski was taken to a clinic in Moscow where the doctors could observe his expected demise. However, Bugorski survived and even completed his Ph.D. There was virtually no damage to his intellectual capacity, but the fatigue of mental work increased markedly.[2] Bugorski completely lost hearing in the left ear and only a constant, unpleasant internal noise remained. The left half of his face was paralyzed, due to the destruction of nerves.[1] He was able to function well, except for the fact that he had occasional complex partial seizures and rare tonic-clonic seizures.
