Everybody is born with Herpes Zoster in a dorment state but this kind of Herpes has nothing to do with genital herpes but it can occur in the same regions. Hurts like a bitch but that's about it. It heals after max 2 months and is caused by a lack of sleep, high amounts of UV radiation or a weak immune system.

The left half of Bugorski's face swelled up beyond recognition, and over the next several days, started peeling off, revealing the path that the proton beam (moving near the speed of light) had burned through parts of his face, his bone, and the brain tissue underneath. As it was believed that he had received far in excess of the radiation dose that would normally kill a person, Bugorski was taken to a clinic in Moscow where the doctors could observe his expected demise. However, Bugorski survived and even completed his Ph.D. There was virtually no damage to his intellectual capacity, but the fatigue of mental work increased markedly.[2] Bugorski completely lost hearing in the left ear and only a constant, unpleasant internal noise remained. The left half of his face was paralyzed, due to the destruction of nerves.[1] He was able to function well, except for the fact that he had occasional complex partial seizures and rare tonic-clonic seizures.

Probably because they are about as effective as a gun and cost way more
#2 to #1 - anon (07/15/2013) [-]
we do...they are in experimental stages and are not used currently in warfare (with the exception of the railgun-was fired once and caused so much destruction it was decomisioned....it also killed 3 crewmen when firing)

remember that show "Future weapons"?
User avatar #3 to #2 - radiohazard (07/15/2013) [-]
I never heard of this railgun accident...but yeah, I think the main reason direct energy weapons are not being used yet is that we lack the means to fuel them.
The railgun showed on future weapons needed some bigass energy cells to fire just 1 shot
User avatar #132 to #2 - roflsaucer (07/16/2013) [-]
...I'm pretty sure that wasn't a Railgun. Railguns aren't a very realistic weapon because of how much power they take to fire, and the size needed to fire an efficient projectile is just unethical.
User avatar #260 to #132 - rieskimo (07/16/2013) [-]
First of all this sentence "and the size needed to fire an efficient projectile is just unethical." makes exactly zero sense.

Second of all, if you're talking ethics the guy mentioned that the rail gun was so devastating that it was deemed unethical for battle. That I find unlikely, though it may have been a nasty hit, I think the fact that they lost 3 guys on their side just by shooting the damn thing is the reason it was decomissioned.
User avatar #345 to #260 - roflsaucer (07/16/2013) [-]
The sentence makes perfect sense. The size needed of the actual Railgun to fire the projectile is too large, which makes it unethical to use. Imagine using a gun the size of a Mounted .50 cal to fire .22 cal bullets.
And just because we used the same word, doesn't mean we were talking about the same thing.

But either way, I didn't even state what I said as fact. I said "I'm pretty sure", not "I'm sure" or some other definitive statement. I was simply repeating something I've heard, I'm very aware I'm probably wrong.

Railguns are under developement... You need to login to view this link

However, they are not direct energy weapons, and have never been used in real warfare... I have no idea where this "accident" could happen that caused that utter destruction...

#304 to #301 - lolpakka (07/16/2013) [-]

User avatar #305 to #304 - deathstare (07/16/2013) [-]

Very Interesting. General Atomics Railgun Test 2013

I know that railguns are big electromagnetic slingshots(essentially) and not like a laser of doom. But looking at that video and considering Murphy's law, I think it's foolish to say that there's nothing that could possibly go wrong with a railgun that would maim or kill multiple people(on the shooting end not the shot end).

I was really just pointing out roflsaucer's *********** sentence, I find this whole story kind of iffy myself.

Especially considering there have been recent videos released of tests, so there's definitely still current development(you can't decomission something that hasn't been put into service anyway).

Hmm.. I guess not everyone likes a bunch of scenes with some classical music accompanying it. It did however make me realize how powerful it could be to implant classical melodies into childrens work, and when they grow up, the nostalgia attached to say, Beethoven symphony 9, 2nd movement, may encourage them to listen to more classical. Nostalgia is such a powerful tool

Actually - it wasn't a pilot - it was the bottom ball turret gunner of a b-25 / 29 who fell from 23,000 feet on a raid on a french city nicknamed 'flak city' for obvious reasons. because of the size of the turret - and the fact that he could hardly fit in the turret, he had to keep his parachute on the deck - when the plane was falling to it's doom - he had seen that his parachute had been torn apart, but impulsively jumped out a hole in the plane without it. He probably have survived if it wasn't for the altitude knocking him out and causing him to hit the ground limp, and the gracious service of the German doctors that saved his life - a loose quote; ' anybody who survives that deserves special treatment'

Well you reach terminal velocity pretty quick about 500 feet I think so at that point 500 feet is the same fall as 50000 feet basically

That is the most ******* retarded comment I've read today. Good job genius, you passed junior highschool biology. Did it occur to you that most people genuinely just don't care?
And what the hell does it have to do with 9GAG?
User avatar #333 to #172 - Loppytaffy (07/16/2013) [-]
Because it says 9gag on the picture.

Oh, well, I'm so sorry if my using a picture from 9gag offends you. I'll be sure to put any random pictures I grab off Google image search through a rigorous screening to make sure they're not from some other site that seems to rustle everyone's jimmies here.

Slightly off topic, but sharing is caring

I am a manager of a Water Damage Restoration company. Two years ago, a homeowner had a very large leak at his house, downstairs was full of about 2 inches of standing water. Super cool guy, was in the music industry. Was no more than about 50, in good shape. Day two of the job he asks me, "Do you dip?"
"I'm sorry? Dip what, sir?" (Not a common term in my part of CA)
"Dip. Chew tobacco."
"OH. No, I've never tried any sort of tobacco. Why do you ask?"
"I quit 14 years ago. Last month I was diagnosed with inoperable stage 4 throat cancer. I tell everyone that it's just not worth it." I didn't know what to say. He got a longing look on his face, looked around his mostly torn apart house full of drying equipment and drywall holes everywhere and continued, "It'll be nice to get his place fixed up again. Not sure how much longer I have to enjoy it."
"I'm so sorry, sir. We will get you fixed up as soon as possible."
"Don't be sorry, I did it to myself. Just tell other people. If I can help one other person not go through this then I've done my job."

Mfw it completely ruined my day. I only knew the guy for a week and I don't know if he's still alive.

Just paying it forward.

I've heard it's true many times. A lot of body builders go a week without jacking off then do it on the 7th day after the gym because after a week testosterone levels start to fall again. Its surprisingly hard as **** to go a week though, no pun intended

I find the easiest way to go about 3 days is to stay at my parents house. Though on day 4 my instincts kick in and my training as a Ninja takes over...

I've found it easiest to just jerk off on Friday then the weekend is your first 2 days and during the week I'm too busy to do it so a week is a little bit easier
