Seventeen is not a child. If you think Zimmerman should have been convicted, you either weren't paying attention, or you're a racist... Honestly I don't give a sunken vaginal bubble about this . It should not have made national news.

Regardless of how you view it, the jury is only supposed to rule guilty when the evidence proves guilt BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT. I highly suggest watching 12 Angry Men, to see exactly why it is important to have a court set up in just that way.

The only real thing that bugs me about all this is i keep hearing that the police told him not to pursue the kid and he did anyway.
So couldn't EVERYTHING have been avoided if he just let the cops handle it?
#60 to #58 - gassnake (07/15/2013) [-]
911 operator =/= police

and 911 operators hold no legal power
#61 to #60 - hachintheaxe (07/15/2013) [-]
Seem to me tat h still took the law into his own hands.
but i guess he was allowed since he was top dog in the neighborhood watch?
wutev its a sad situation but whats done is done
#63 to #61 - gassnake (07/15/2013) [-]
By taking the law into his own hands you mean he defended himself from getting his head pulverized then yes. But the fault really lies with the attacker, martin, who decided to confront Zimmerman with violence instead of reasoning with him.
#65 to #63 - hachintheaxe (07/15/2013) [-]
but wasn't he stalking the kid in the first place?
following him because he thought he was a criminal?
I haven't been following this case so all my knowledge is second hand
#67 to #65 - gassnake (07/15/2013) [-]
He was following him to report his location to the operator who would then relay it to the police due to the string of robberies that had occured in his neighborhood
#68 to #67 - hachintheaxe (07/15/2013) [-]
oh the operator told him to follow the guy, thats dumb

Yeah i guess so. sad that things turned out the way they did
#66 to #65 - hachintheaxe (07/15/2013) [-]
i mean, if i thought there was a dangerous criminal in my neighborhood i certainly wouldn't follow him

and like i've said before, its a sad situation but people get away with murder all the time.

this kid was half his size.
Zimmerman had a gun.
And now this kid is DEAD. In the ground. ******* DEAD.
Zimmerman, a grown man with a gun in his hand could have deescalated the situation in any number of ways.
But instead went for the stupid and scared american way of shooting away your problems.
This is just another example of the world seeing an american do what they do best: Solve their problems with a gun. You will destroy yourselves before you'll ever learn. Before terrorism gets you. You will be the ones to take your own 'Freedom'.

Trayvon Martin: 6'0" 160# athletic build
George Zimmerman: 5'9" 170-185#, pudgy

Twice his size? You should try getting some facts before you post.

think you should formulate it differently man and not box inn all americans like that, but i agree with you that zimmerman a former security guard for four years shouldnt have any problems fighting off a skinny guy like trayvon, yet alone manage to work a gun propperly and took shoot a non lethal shot.

in the first place zimmerman should not have followed him, I would have done exactly the same as trayvon and started fighting someone that was following me like that.
its called fight or flight and unfortunatley trayvon fought.

I never claimed my opinion was more legitimised over anyone elses and repeating my question doesn't get you anywhere since it was a question you never answered, but just keep shoveling back to me. I asked why you cared about this event. Everyone seems to care so much; including you, but why? Terrible things happen like this all over and THIS is the one we all seem to fall on in outrage? Why? I've told you that I don't care because I don't. I don't know either party or live anywhere near it to boot. So what's your reason to feel so strongly on this particular event? Do you feel so strongly about all events that happen or is it because this one was plastered everywhere by media choice and you care because "you're just supposed to"?

5 or 6 years??? this kids was only 17.
User avatar #17 to #15 - metalguitarest (07/15/2013) [-]
I know how old he was but the media portrayed his much younger pictures rather than his more current ones to shine him in a better light. You said zimmerman could've deescalated the problem in another way, if you knew about the case you'd realize he didn't have the chance. Martin sprinted through bushes and onto the other side of the street when he confronted Zimmerman by punching him jumping ontop of him and repeatedly pounding his head into the pavement. Fearing for his life Zimmerman shot him. Simple.
User avatar #18 to #17 - maidenmk (07/15/2013) [-]
fearing for his life, not dying and certainly not dead. I wasnt there so i dont know exactly how it went down. But at the end of the day this guy had a gun, he chose to shoot first and think later. He let fear take hold of him. He'll spend the rest of his life in fear.
And this kid will be in the ground for every second of that. DEAD.
User avatar #20 to #18 - metalguitarest (07/15/2013) [-]
I'm sorry but if I'm getting my head repeatedly slammed into the concrete which if continued WILL ******* KILL ME, I will shoot the mother ****** as well. Seriously? Now you're just being ridiculous, you clearly know nothing of what happened and because a gun was involved you automatically assumed he was a trigger happy american who gunned him down as a first thought rather than a last chance shot of adrenaline because this "kid" might kill him.

Okay either you're a very clever troll and you got me if you are but if you aren't you are seriously the stupidest and most ignorant individual I have ever met. Our self defense laws work like this, if any man trespasses on your property and is a threat to you or your family you do have the right to shoot him, however, if he is retreating and running away you cannot shoot because the threat is no longer there. If a threat is present you have every right to defend yourself or your family until the threat is eliminated. You know nothing of our laws and apparently nothing of this case. Your opinion is invalid and you are increasingly ignorant. You are worse than any anon I have ever spoken to.

ummm, not sure that racism has anything to do with it, Zimmerman is mexican, and the fact that travon had no previous record but that Zimmer was well known by the local law enforcement as a paranoid racist kinda shows him to be in the wrong here. The prosecution ****** up by pressing second degree murder and there wasn't enough evidence for that charge. It was a known racists word against the word of a dead man.
User avatar #7 to #3 - TwelveCharlie (07/15/2013) [-]
A know paranoid racist who tutored black children? Get your facts straight. And even if Zimmerman was a racist, does a racist not have the right to defend himself when attacked by a member of the race he is against?
#75 - anon (07/15/2013) [-]
Maybe it was wrong of Martin to attack Zimmerman, never the less he started the attack with his bare knuckles and Zimmerman was the most distingused type of wanker when he dessided that this duel of who was the bigger man and pulled out a gun to not only defend himself but mutalet another human, the first and only rule I feel that anyone that shall ever carry a fire-arm is that they will never use it to end another life with it. Hurt maybe, some what of a warning. But never as a fatality, not never! This case represents all the injustice in this world. Zimmerman knew that he was overempowerd compared to Martin. What kind of a knob head brings a gun to a fist fight anyway? I don't see any reason why he is innocent, is he not guilty of taking a life that was not his to take, is he not guilty of being a cruel man when he can feel that he has deserved the right to be a free man. If I ever come to any leadership of any part of any society. There will never be a trail of this sense...

Anyone would do the same thing, if some guy, regardless of race or age, has me on the floor, pounding my head into the floor, chances are, I'm not going to be able to regain the advantage with my bare hands, I'm not Rocky, no one is. If someone is putting your life in danger and you have a weapon, you bloody use it, Martin got what he deserved, and the family will have to live with the fact that if their son wasn't so violent and short-tempered, he'd still be alive.

How exactly is he a ****** ? Just because he's black doesn't not equal a ****** , just like if someone is white it doesn't equal white trash.

Also, how is he at fault for any of this? He didn't go running up to Zimmerman and start a fight with him. This is just a 17 year old teenager walking home from buying something from the store. Zimmerman is the one who followed Martin, not the other way around. He perceived Martin as a threat because he was walking down a path with a hoodie on at night? How many teenagers regardless of race/nationality walk around with hoodies on at night? Should they all be perceived as threats and shot?
