is that 400,000 moon pounds or earth pounds
#251 to #27 - thejoshuaclark (07/15/2013) [-]
Pounds are a unit of mass, not weight, weight is in newtons and this is what varies from body to body.
User avatar #257 to #251 - parralax ONLINE (07/15/2013) [-]
A man weighs 100 pounds on Earth. On the moon, the same man will weigh ~65 pounds.

Mass does not change, period, as it's a defined amount of atoms in an object.

Mass is not Pounds.
#265 to #257 - thejoshuaclark (07/16/2013) [-]
No in scientific terminology a mass is universally measured in kg, which can be converted to pounds, whereas weight (a force) is measured in newtons.
User avatar #86 to #27 - treska (07/15/2013) [-]
The pound is a unit of mass, therefore it is a property of the matter, it doesn't change. What actually change is the weight, i.e. the force that the gravity does to the object.
Since W=m·g, and in the moon "g" is lower than in the Earth, the weight in the Earth will be bigger than in the moon.
#91 to #86 - alilmetalkid (07/15/2013) [-]
I'm pretty sure pounds is a measurement of weight
#97 to #91 - kiboz (07/15/2013) [-]
In every day speech, yes, it is, but in physics, Newt is the unit for weight and kilograms(or pounds, whatever) is for mass.
User avatar #181 to #97 - meganinja ONLINE (07/15/2013) [-]
except pounds aren't part of the SI. Pounds are weight.

Okay, I'm sorry, I'm not a native English speaker, I learned that in my language.
#137 to #97 - anon (07/15/2013) [-]
actually the customary unit of mass is a "slug" pounds are weight
that's why we say pounds of force and newtons of force

[url deleted]
#138 to #137 - kiboz (07/15/2013) [-]
The SI unit of mass is a kilogram, I have no idea what are you talking about. Weight is in fact force, just gravitational force which pulls the object which has mass depending on the amount of mass it has and the strength of the gravitational field(aka the acceleration, aka g=9.81..). So when you put it in a formula, it is Q=g*m, which gives you the force, expressed in newtons.
#158 to #97 - anon (07/15/2013) [-]
Dude, pounds are a unit of weight, not mass. Kilograms measure mass (and weight in common conversation, like you mentioned above). Pounds are part of the Imperial system, which doesn't technically (as far as I know) have a unit for mass.
#164 to #158 - kiboz (07/15/2013) [-]
Oh, well, okay then, I'm not familiar with the imperial system, I've been educated by the SI system, so I just assumed that kilograms and pounds have the same place. Thanks for the insight.
User avatar #258 to #91 - anonymoose ONLINE (07/15/2013) [-]
It's defined as exactly 0.45359237 kilograms, making it a measurement of mass.

Pound is a measurement of mass, is it not?
#157 to #141 - anon (07/15/2013) [-]
Nah it's weight, all of these people in the comments above are talking about SI units and **** , but they're wrong, because pounds aren't an SI unit, it's in the Imperial system, which doesn't, strictly speaking, have a unit for mass.
User avatar #233 to #157 - anonymoose ONLINE (07/15/2013) [-]
It doesn't need to be an SI unit. It's defined as 0.45359237 kilograms making it a measurement of mass.
#230 to #157 - anon (07/15/2013) [-]
Actually, they do have a measurement for mass. It's called slugs.
Don't ask me why it's called that.
User avatar #179 to #141 - dreaddune (07/15/2013) [-]
yes, it's mass. perhaps not the SI-unit, as anon said, but yes, used as a mass. not as the english currency..

The bald eagle was of significant cultural and spiritual value for several Native American cultures, making it more than a little awkward that today's Americans use it as a supposed symbol of freedom.

For me, it is and always will be a bird primarily linked to the natives, which is why it always bothers me a bit when I see it together with the flag of the U.S. It just seems incredibly wrong to me.

You know when you fall asleep drunk, not pass out, and all you do is dream about the party like you're there again? You know your night reoccurs in your head.

It actually happens automatically if you pass out from blunt force trauma(excuse me if that's only a cause of death and feel free to correct my ignorance) or even just getting the wind knocked out of you for too long. If you get knocked out from, say, falling on your front on the ground from a high jump on a trampoline, you'll just replay the recent events leading up to it over and over in your mind.

The part after Jill and Parker get gassed in the room with the Chris Mannequin and you wake up in separate rooms? Once you find the screwdriver in the bathroom, you'll have to position yourself near the TV and dodge the monster as it lunges for you. If you do it right, it'll trip and smash it's head through the TV and get electrocuted to death, giving you the time you need to unscrew the panel and rearrange the wires.

The whole game was pretty easy, but I played the first two chapters on the new Inferno difficulty and those things just won't stay down! Still a decent game, which I can't say the same about RE6. I would still be playing it, but I'm getting SMT IV and Fire Emblem: Awakening on the 16th for the special $30 3DS eshop credit promotion and using that to buy Etrian Odyssey IV as well. Those games are so long I won't have time for anything else for quite a while.
User avatar #38 to #37 - thundagawd (07/15/2013) [-]
Yeah, I sank like 20+ hours into Fire Emblem: Awakening, and I don't even think I'm close to beating it, then I also have Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate that I've spent literally HUNDREDS of hours in. Also, have you ever played the first 3 Etrian Odyssey's? They have a bundle for them on Amazon that seems interesting but I have no idea what the gameplay's like and I don't want to drop like $80 on something I might not enjoy =/

I have MH3U too. I play together with my brother; me on the WiiU and him on the 3DS through cross-console multiplayer. We both had well over 100 hours before we decided to erase our files (which I kind of regret).

With Etrian Odyssey, I actually haven't played a previous game in the series. It's odd considering I'm a huge fan of Atlus' Shin Megami Tensei series (they presonally develop both series). But, I got a taste of EOIV a few days ago because there's a demo on the eshop (you can try it yourself). It's a first-person dungeon-crawler apparently known for being quite hard and plays very similar to the old-school SMT games, except bright, colorful, and light on story. You have to name and build your own characters (up to 30, but only 5 or 6 can go out in a party) that all have classes and skill trees to allow lots of customization. You also have to draw your own maps, which I thought was pretty addicting and fun. Etrian Odyssey really doesn't hold your hand, but I read that IV was made more accessible than its previous three entries. I didn't find the demo too hard, but then again I've played plenty of games in this genre, so I think I knew what I was doing if I do say so myself. But be warned, I don't do too too much grinding in JRPGs, but I've read that patience and grinding will be something to deal with.
In the end, just play the 3ds demo (reviewers have given it good scores) to find out for yourself, and if you don't like it there still is this awesome battle theme: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCZjnuS6ESc

Also, consider getting Shin Megami Tensei IV ($50 price tag). Since you already have FE: A, once you register both the games on Club Nintendo before August 31, you get $30 additional credit on the 3ds eshop. Quite a bargain, considering both these games are part of awesome franchises. I have no doubt that this promotion is some discreet way to promote the upcoming WiiU game: Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem crossover. Wow, what a long reply.

lol, nice. I'll look into them. I remember having an old first person dungeon crawler on the original gameboy once upon a time ago, so this could be neat. As for Shin Megami Tensei, I've played a few games in the series and they were quite good, so I might as well go for it as well (I've loved every Atlus game I've played, so I don't see what the harm in trying would be). Thanks for the info!

They're extremely challenging dungeon crawlers, and their main points are focused on grinding and item collection if thats your thing. Not too much plot wise if I remember correctly, but its been a while since I played the first two and I haven't had time to play the third.
