MARVEL NERD TIME!!!

Cap's shield is made of a vibranium/adamantium alloy, and Thor's hammer, Mijolnir, is made of an Asguardian metal called Uru.
Adamantium is indestructible by Earth standards, vibranium absorbs all kinetic energy so that means no matter the force the wielder of the shield will feel no vibrations. Uru is a metal that is indestructible by Asguardian standards and a bit stronger than adamantium.

The way vibranium works is that it stores all kinetic energy thrown at it in the spaces between it's atomic structure, and that in turn strengthens the vibranium and what other metals it's mixed with. So that means every blow to the shield makes Cap's shield stronger, every deflected bullet, grenade, bounce off the wall, using it to hit someone, and even Thor's hit with the hammer strengthened it.

That's why Cap's shield could block Thor's hammer.

Asgardians have other ways with dealing with that shield, y'know.

So it's basically just like the magic pottery that formed the seals on the Dark One's prison in the Wheel of Time.

Pretty much.

Have you ever read the WoT books?
User avatar #80 to #78 - taintedangel (07/15/2013) [-]
Not really, no. Had to wiki that. :/
User avatar #82 to #80 - derpwolf (07/15/2013) [-]
Aww, they're great books. Well, some of them are. If you don't live in a slumtown like Stockton, you should have a library that has them.
User avatar #83 to #82 - taintedangel (07/15/2013) [-]
I live in the middle of ************ nowhere, Ontario. lol I have no access to a library.
User avatar #84 to #83 - derpwolf (07/15/2013) [-]
Lame, libraries rock. Since you took the time out of your day to wiki something on the statement of a total stranger, would you like one of my wallpapers?
User avatar #86 to #84 - taintedangel (07/15/2013) [-]
Sure. I'm always up for new, cool wallpapers.
User avatar #88 to #86 - derpwolf (07/15/2013) [-]
They're all on my other computer, but I dumped a few of my folders in a thread a week or so ago. Here's the link:

it can be destroyed by overloading the hydrogen bonds where the kinetic energy is transformed into chemical energy and stored (partially). it has to be a sustained power, eg a long ass lightning strike from thor's hammer or something like that.
User avatar #96 to #94 - taintedangel (07/15/2013) [-]
Yes that is the one weakness to the absorption of energy. usually the shield never takes any prolonged blasts like that, or if it does, they were never long enough to destablize the hydrogen bonds.
User avatar #97 to #96 - pedobarekiller (07/15/2013) [-]
yeah, i think in one or two comic series' it happens, not entirley sure though

captain Americas shield is a hybrid Vibranium/Adamantium alloy
#17 to #3 - vatra (07/15/2013) [-]
Later on it also gets reforged in Asgard with Uru infused in to it (the same metal Thor's hammer is made of). Though after that Cap's shield has a noticeable scar with he says adds character.
#56 to #17 - anon (07/15/2013) [-]
I like the shield he uses in Secret Avengers. The one that can be generated on either and both arms. I think it's the coolest **** in comparison.

That can't be, Magneto removes the adamantium in one of the comics so he still ahs his bones.

Jesus H. Christ.
People need to research their **** before asking such dumb questions.
It's practically common knowledge that Captain America's Vibranium shield absorbs any and all vibrations from impact somewhat flawlessly, allowing it to take anything from fly swatters to Thor's man hammer.
#23 to #19 - anon (07/15/2013) [-]
Would that not be flawed in the way that if it were thrown it would absorb its own force and just stop.
#53 to #19 - anon (07/15/2013) [-]
yes but you're wrong about it being common knowledge
#58 to #19 - swiftshadow (07/15/2013) [-]

lol...american pride. how shameful

1. No free healthcare. your government leaves you to die!!!
2. The worst education system in the western world which leaves more school leavers innumerate and illiterate than any other developed western country.
3. Higher crime rates and murder rates per percentage of population than any other developed country in the world.
4. It has the worst Economy on record, and cant even sustain its own national debt to itself, let alone the 7 trillion dollars owed to china.
5. It calls itself a superpower, and claims to have the best armed forces in the world but hasn't won a single war since the civil war over 200 years ago.
6. Has the highest percentage per population in the developed world of people living below the poverty line, just as weak as the third world countries.
7. Your iphone was made in china, you can't even develop your own economy, resources.
8. The most overweight country in the world by a large margin. A big, fat and stupid nation.

That isn't true because the way vibranium works is it reflects all the energy that goes into it this includes kinetic energy so he wouldn't of felt a thing.

i live in canada and its nice to know if you're ever sick, you can get free treatment.
