Misinterpretations of depression

For context's sake: the person with the dead fish is depressed and the others are trying to help this person. It's a metaphor for what people don't get about depression. You can't "find it" if it's not there.

The description and pretty much this entire post altogether pisses me off. You do realize that depression isn't a real disease, it's an excuse for lazy people to get off of working, and for pharmacists to get more money selling pills. There are a lot of "diseases" that are only there for pharmacists to exploit, such as depression, anxiety, fibromyalgia, bipolar, PTSD, and so on.

If you honestly feel depressed, either ******* deal with your problems, or kill yourself. Don't bitch and moan and expect me to feel sympathy for you. And for the love of god, DO NOT go on disability for depression. You're basically robbing the taxpayer to support your lazy habbit of not wanting to work. Grow some ******* balls.

Another great depression for metaphor.

Well **** . Metaphor for depression is what I meant.

People who say that mental disorders are ******** because people in the past never fussed, they just "got on with it" are dumb ***** . People in the past did not get on with it, they were diagnosed as insane and rotted in an asylum for the rest of their lives. Alcoholism was a lot more common back then because that's how people coped; they were drunk off their ass all the time.
#19 - anon (07/13/2013) [-]
All of these stupid ass mental disabilities are just complete ******** . People are just weak minded, half of these ***** that people get diagnosed with aren't real. They're over exaggerating their problems. Everyone has issues, just shut the **** up and deal with it. Man the **** up. Do you think the great men who built this Nation said "I can't work on the trans continental railroad today...i'm sad..." No! They were actually real men and tough and powered through it!
User avatar #23 to #19 - kikisu (07/13/2013) [-]
Not everyone with depression is as much of a little bitch as you make it seem. True clinical depression is hormones that you can't control. You might just end up sobbing while eating icecream.
#24 to #23 - anon (07/13/2013) [-]
You need to power through those times. It's just a mental block and they need to get over it. It's a hurdle, that's all it is. It's all in the person's head.
User avatar #54 to #24 - cumbersome ONLINE (07/13/2013) [-]
I hope you get a clinical depression. Not because I want you to hurt, but because then you'll know.
#55 to #54 - anon (07/13/2013) [-]
It wouldn't happen. I'd get over it quickly. I'm strong minded, I don't believe in excuses or weaknesses. I take responsibility for myself.
User avatar #56 to #55 - cumbersome ONLINE (07/13/2013) [-]
That's great for you, but it has nothing to do with depression.
#59 to #56 - anon (07/13/2013) [-]
Yes it does. Depression is an excuse weak minded people use so they can feel special and unique when they're not.
User avatar #25 to #24 - kikisu (07/13/2013) [-]
Not really. I had a perfect life, and had depression. I could be petting my dog and start crying for no reason. Some times its something you can't help, and no amount of "just getting over it" will help.
#37 to #25 - anon (07/13/2013) [-]
You had a perfect life and nothing to be a little bitch about. You seriously need to man the **** up. When you feel like that just ******* power through it, stop making excuses. You're weak.
User avatar #39 to #37 - kikisu (07/13/2013) [-]
I never bitched about anything. My life was wonderful for the most part, I'd just get sad randomly. It's no excuse, and I think the only weak one is you. You can't actually understand that some people go through things that aren't explainable yet. Next you're gonna tell me that narcolepsy isn't legitimate and it's all in their heads.
#45 to #39 - anon (07/13/2013) [-]
When you cry for no god damn reason you're being a little bitch. Narcolepsy is a physical thing, much harder to over come than a mental block. You just have a mental block and you need to get over that hurdle. You'll be stronger once you do. Only you are holding yourself back, you have no one to blame but yourself.
User avatar #46 to #45 - kikisu (07/13/2013) [-]
Narcolepsy isn't explained, and it's not physical, it's neurological. I've got both, and I can tell you narcolepsy is just as hard to deal with as random depression spikes. As hard as it is to can handle randomly passing out, depression is just as hard.
#57 to #46 - anon (07/13/2013) [-]
You pass out, that's physical. You get a little sad, that's mental. You're just a ball of ****** up **** aren't you? lol obviously god hates for for ******* you over so badly. Must suck to be you.
User avatar #58 to #57 - kikisu (07/13/2013) [-]
It doesn't really suck to be me, not too much. Except for those two things I'm pretty ok. I did exceptionally well in school, and I've got a great life.
#60 to #58 - anon (07/13/2013) [-]
Except for the fact that you're completely ****** up.
User avatar #61 to #60 - kikisu (07/13/2013) [-]
Having depression and narcolepsy doesn't mean I'm ****** up. I take medicine to help keep me awake, and medicine to control my emotion bursts. I probably have a better future in store for myself than you do.
#62 to #61 - anon (07/13/2013) [-]
No my future is automatically better because I don't randomly pass out like an idiot or randomly start crying like a little bitch. The only medicine I take is for seasonal allergies lol And I don't even need to take those actually. I choose to.
User avatar #27 to #19 - TheMather ONLINE (07/13/2013) [-]
So you're saying my Asperger's for instance is ******** ? That how I don't inherently have empathy and have had to homebrew my own form of psychoanalysis to understand other people really just is me not wanting to understand them?

Weird how I invest so much effort in doing something I allegedly avoid doing.
User avatar #28 to #27 - kikisu (07/13/2013) [-]
Yep. And people who have hormones ****** up in their minds are obviously just faking it and need to stop listening to those useless hormones.
#36 to #28 - anon (07/13/2013) [-]
They need to stop letting it dictate their lives that's what i'm saying. Move on.
User avatar #63 to #36 - kaiizel (07/14/2013) [-]
So when you get horny, don't fap. Don't let your hormones tell you what to do.
#64 to #63 - anon (07/14/2013) [-]
Yes exactly. For example in certain situations you can't. Like when i'm in one of my lecture halls in college, I can't just whip my dick out in front of 100 people and jerk off. I need to control it.
User avatar #65 to #64 - kaiizel (07/14/2013) [-]
That isn't the best comparison of scenario, depressed people don't tend to make their emotions known in public. They hide it until they are home, just like when you feel horny and fap in the privacy of your own home.
#66 to #65 - anon (07/14/2013) [-]
But I can RESIST the urge to jerk off. I have enough self control to do that, unlike weak minded "depressed" people.
#34 to #27 - anon (07/13/2013) [-]
I'm talking about depression here. But yeah you're just a cynical asshole. Aspergers is an excuse for people to act like assholes.
User avatar #38 to #34 - TheMather ONLINE (07/13/2013) [-]
You said "All of these stupod ass mental disabilities" which includes Asperger's and whatever else you can think of.

And ok, so I am an asshole for making an effort to understand people since I can't understand them inherently.
#44 to #38 - anon (07/13/2013) [-]
You're inherently an asshole actually. That's all there is to it. Stop making excuses for your asshole behaviors.

you can't find what isn't there, you can't hear a sound that isn't making noise, you can't see the light that isn't shinning and you can't fix what isn't broken.

This is also from the same comic. If you haven't read it, you should. Especially, if you are depressed or know someone depressed because it really clears some **** up.
