there was a guy in my school who would call himself god.
he once wore a black dress-shirt and black pants and put a little paper strip in his collar to look like a priest.
Economics class was fun with him, he would always argue with the teacher about conspiracies and corruption in the government.
everyone knew him as 'crazy jake'
"you know jake?" "which one?" "the crazy one"

Did he seriously believe it himself or was he taking the piss?

I think he actually believed it. He was one of those uber-edgy kids with black fingernails and eyelashes who looked down on everyone who wore anything but black and spent his time at home listening to marilyn manson in a room full of candles. Seriously, I believe he met every single clichee-

Nope, never heard a thing of him after he moved away in class 8. And I´m lucky about it.

Do you not think it'd be interesting to find out if he grew up and has like an office job, having to wear a suit, a short, neat haircut or if hes one of those really weird adult goths?

Fair point. Gymnasium? Did you have an overly "friendly" gym teacher?

Nah. Gymnasium is the german "Hightschool" or similar to it. Grade 5-12 on the highest possible status, allowing you to go to University.I´d have killed any overly-friendly gym-teacher

Ah, I stopped reading the word after "gym", but at least I learned something. Status?

Status like in...meh, I used the wrong word. There are three ways to go after finishing grade 4. If you had very bad grades, you can only go to Hauptschule, where you get the lowest educationel path. If your grades were medium/good, you can also choose to go to Realschule, the middleway. And if your grades ware very good/good, you can go to Gymnasium, which also enables you to go to University, if you finish Gymnasium with good-enough grades. Sorry, I´m hella tired, I might be explaining it unsufficiently

No, you explained it perfectly, we have the same sort of system but its kinda different.
You can change what level of education you get at 3 stages here
1st opportunity is when the person's 11, if they do well in an entrance exam, they get into a grammar school, if they don't, they go to a secondary school.
2nd opportunity is at 14, depending on how they do in their KS3s, they can move from a secondary to grammar or vice versa
3rd opportunity is at 16, depending on how well they do in their GCSE, they can again move from a secondary or grammar or vice versa, or if they want to do speciallied courses, they can go to a college (not like what the Americans call university), also called a tech or technical college.

Probably more than you wanted to know...

I'm at the third opportunity, I really hope I got good enough grades to stay at my grammar.
