Hi OP.
I know I'm just a random anon, but I have a request.
Something about Gothmog, the Orc. The dude at Minas Tirith, you know?
Would love it if you would include him, thanks a lot.

Quick Note: In the third LOTR movie, The Return Of The King, during the siege on Miras Tirith, they use a massive battering ram to break down the main gate. The hammer was called "Grond", which was also known as the "Hammer of the Underworld". This hammer was used by Morgoth to slay a very important elf king (forget his name, woops). Anyway, pretty much imagine that massive ******* thing on a stick and being used as a hammer. It would **** **** up.

Fingolfin was his name I think, he was the elven High King at the time
User avatar #100 to #24 - kingofthetrolls (07/10/2013) [-]
Thank you, I haven't read anything by Tolkein in a while so i forget the name
#27 to #11 - anon (07/09/2013) [-]
The Battering ram was not anything like the hammer Grond of Morgoth. It was only named after it.
#61 to #11 - anon (07/10/2013) [-]
The battering ram was named Grond in homage to morgoth's hammer, it was never a weapon and was made during the third age to crush the gates of Minas Tirith
User avatar #29 to #11 - mephiblis (07/09/2013) [-]
Uhm i don't think the "Grond" battering ram was the actual mace, i just think they named it like so to honor Morgoth.

However, Morgoth was a shape-shifter and could change looks and size(If I dont mix this up with someone else).
User avatar #353 to #339 - kingofthetrolls (07/10/2013) [-]
Morgoth could shape-shift, until after he went into his fortress of Utunmo he became forever an evil looking man. Same with Sauron, as explained in the post.

There isn't really much to know about dwarfs since they are the most obscure of the races. I'm going to tell you the story of how they came in existence (as a prologue for OP's post if you want).

They were not made by Iluvatar, but rather forged by Aule (the Vala who was master crafter and smith) as a side project before elves would be awakened so he has somebody to teach how to mine and smelt and forge. They were perfectly adapted for living under the mountains. But as soon as he built the Seven Dwarf Kings, Iluvatar came to Arda in a flash in order to banish Aule for messing with the order he decided. Aule got scared ******** , he started to beg for forgiveness and he offered the dwarfs as a gift to Iluvatar. He said that if he doesn't accept his gift, he is gonna destroy them. Then he raised his hammer ready to strike them and immediately, sensing the danger, the dwarfs raised their arms in a desperate attempt to protect themselves.
That is when Iluvatar started laughing, telling Aule that he accepted his gift from the second he offered it, but the dwarfs are gonna awaken after the elves since order must be preserved. Then he told him that without his blessing he couldn't create life and all he accomplished was to make seven bodies but all of them would be bound to his will. So unless Aule isn't giving them The Sims-like commands constantly (for every one of them at a time), they would just freeze without doing anything.

Bonus: What happens to dwarfs after they die is uncertain. The only thing known is that The Seven Kings "fall asleep" in their stone tombs for ages until they are finally ready to rise again. For the common folk there is nothing mentioned.

Hey OP, you mentioned that the Elves and the Men just 'came' to middle earth, so where exactly did they come from?

And that Feanor 'went' to middle earth with his rebellion, so where was he before?

elves and men were created by illuvatar. The wtichking of angmar was one of hte nine human kings who received rings from Sauron and became wraiths. After Sauron's defeat against the alliance of men and elves, the nazgul scattered throughout middle earth. Approximately 1000 years later sauron reappeared as the "necromancer" and camped out in dol guldur, slowly gathering his power. Meanwhile, the witchking was busy going around gathering orc armies and picking fights with gondor and arnor (neighboring kingdon). North of Arnor is where the witchking founded his first realm- Angmar. Hence he became known as the witch king of angmar. He subsequently captured a gondor stronghold called Minas Ithil, and turned it into what we know was Minas Morgul.
#144 to #33 - anon (07/10/2013) [-]
Long story short, the witch king fought with Earnur and his Gondor army, reinforced by armies of glorfindel and the elves. The witch king lost and ran away from the north. Thus his kingdom of angmar was left leaderless and collapsed. After that he pretty much camped out in minas morgul. Later on before the fall of Osgiliath, Earnur rides to Minas Morgul and accepts a duel challenge from the witch king of angmar. Earnur enters Minas Morgul, and is never seen or heard from again- presumably killed. The reason why witch king was able to win this time is presumably because sauron had left dol guldur and returned back to mordor, and bestowed the witch king with dark magic that greatly empowered him.

Men and Elves were made by the God Iluvatar and put to sleep in random places in middle Earth to wake up at random times. Feanor had been living with the Valar in Aman at the time with many other Elves because it was much safer there than anywhere else and the Valar had summoned them there a while back

Yeah, you are probably right. So cool in the books when he tries on the one ring and nothing happens, and he is like: what a fancy little trinket, poof!

One of the theories is that he is the incarnation of Ilúvatar. Which would explain many things, but unfortunatly there is no proof for that.
