UK designer Ben Forman has come with a brilliant idea of turning the act of littering into something that would add to the beauty of outdoor spaces. Forman’s ‘Cigg Seeds’ are biodegradable cigarette filters that are embedded with wild flower seeds. Whenever a butt is thrown on to the ground, they will flourish into beautiful flowers. Even though this solution might not be fully practical in urban areas, it certainly would be very beneficial for public parks, beaches and other green zones.

Or maybe we can plant trees and stop smoking.

If it's got a road or sidewalk on it, it's already ruined. No real point in saving that.

*cough* I actually read the description, but you forgot the fact that the dirty hipsters that would actually use this all live in the city, infact most smokers probably live in the city, so this will have little impact, and instead of justifying smoking, we should be trying to get people to quit and teach kids how smoking is bad, because not only will that stop your littering problem, but it would also make a much healthier society...*cough*
User avatar #35 to #28 - exacerbated (07/09/2013) [-]
They could eat the seeds because regular food is too mainstream.
#43 to #28 - bigrog (07/09/2013) [-]
And no most smokers are not in the city, there are just as many in the country. And people already know its dangerous, though no where near as bad as anti smoking groups would have you believe, so if people want to do it then more power to them.
User avatar #58 to #43 - KayRed (07/09/2013) [-]
Dumbass, the percentages are most likely similar, if not the same, and there are more people in urban areas, therefore there are more smokers.

And my whole point, is that you shouldn't justify smoking in any way, shape, or form.
#99 to #58 - Rascal (07/09/2013) [-]
See this is why the anti-smoking campaign is stupid. It uses the same **** .
"OMG SMOKING KILLS! DID YOU KNOW THAT? IT KILLS HOLY **** IT MAKES YOU DIE FASTER". Death is attractive. Just like sex sells, death sells. Tell someone that doing something will lower their life expectancy by 5 minutes and they're bound to do it. It's called passive-aggressive self destruction.
#72 to #58 - bigrog (07/09/2013) [-]
Well lets see, people that write my handy dandy health textbook estimate 500 thousand a year, i am looking at one website that says 1 million, the commercials say 2 million, seems to me like someone is either mistaken or lying. Im going to guess the ones who made a career of slandering the tobacco companies, dumbass. And I meant in percentage. Of course there will be more smokers in a place with more people. Dumbass. And you shouldn't have to justify smoking, its a choice people have the right to make. Is it unhealthy, yes but so is a damn snickers.
User avatar #78 to #72 - KayRed (07/09/2013) [-]
Them exercising their rights makes them a burden on everyone else. They can smoke if they want, but they better not ask for help when their dying a smoking related illness.
#83 to #78 - bigrog (07/09/2013) [-]
what about fat people, should we not send them an ambulance when they have a heart attack, or people who speed when they get in a crash. The right to live is above all others and no matter what the cost the people must do there best to uphold this right.
User avatar #175 to #83 - KayRed (07/09/2013) [-]
And the right to risk others? People that smoke, and people that speed are putting others at risk, so I don't give a **** about their rights.
#191 to #175 - bigrog (07/09/2013) [-]
then you are a dumb sum bitch. Just because someone has done something stupid doens't mean you get to forfeit there right to live to live.

User avatar #98 - wheresthefudge (07/09/2013) [-]
But... but...
Not all plants will grow in all places. And what if you introduce this plant into an ecosystem which doesn't have a place for it? I mean not only are you 1) polluting the air by smoking the rest of the cigarette and 2) throwing your butts literally anywhere (which despite the biodegradablilty, still looks trashy for a long time), but now you're also introducing a potentially invasive species.
User avatar #101 to #98 - Crusader (07/09/2013) [-]
I'm fairly sure they introduce only widespread species, meaning that if the local climate can sustain that tree, it will be there anyways, or was previously, and therefore is simply reintroducing it.
User avatar #107 to #98 - hammarhead (07/09/2013) [-]

#144 - kmichel (07/09/2013) [-]
wow, this is very surprising to me considering nicotine is so incredibly toxic. You can even soak cigarette butts in water and use the solution as an herbicide.
User avatar #173 to #144 - ninjapuppies (07/09/2013) [-]
So would the plants that grow from these be as toxic?
#187 to #173 - kmichel (07/09/2013) [-]
Some plants called "hyperaccumulators" can take up large amounts of heavy metals, and store them in their leaves. But when it comes to organic molecules like those in gasoline, for example, many are broken down in the plant roots or are volatilized by transpiration. Nicotine is an organic molecule, and is broken down in the human body in about 2 hours. It's also fairly volatile. So my guess in a plant is that it would either be converted to a different form, released into the air, or both.
User avatar #115 - gravitysandwich (07/09/2013) [-]
"burden your lungs, not the environment." should be the slogan for that cigarette.
