Ted is the douchiest character to ever be on a ******* tv show. His arrogance and his holier-than-thou attitude make me want to punch him in the throat.
Here's a list of reasons why I hate Ted:

 - His constant speeches about how he’s so amazing and he doesn’t understand why all women aren’t into him.
 - He scopes out sluts and complains that there are no quality women.
 - He badgers women into dating him and loses interest in a week.
 - He asked Victoria to give up her scholarship for him and put the blame on her when he cheated.
 - He makes impassioned speeches about how he’s learned from his mistakes to shut those who criticize him up… but he never actually does. (2 am episode)
 - He actually thinks he’s better than Barney (come on Ted).
 - He openly lies to women about his feelings for them and his feelings for Robin (Cue Victoria again).
 - He can't get the **** over Robin. At every turn in some season we find out that he still has feelings for her.
 - He gets mad at Barney for sleeping with Robin, but not mad at Robin for sleeping with Barney?

I could also go on about my sort-of-hate for the other characters, but that's not relevant right now.
I don't hate the actor who portrays Ted. Josh Radnor could be a pretty cool guy, and when I see his face outside of HIMYM, I don't feel like punching him. But as soon as he shows his smug grin in that favorite pub of his, I get that urge to strangle him. And that may just make Josh a fantastic actor.

All my friends love HIMYM, and one day while we were all bored they had the genious idea to finally get me to watch the show (as I've never had before and am constantly left outside their "inside" jokes about HIMYM). After watching just one episode I told them that I enjoyed it (especially NPH as Barney) but when I told them that despite the show being good I'll probably never watch it again because of the main character and how much of a pretentious douche bag he seems to be. After that they never even talked about HIMYM in front of me again and whenever NPH comes up (like in the latest Harold and Kumar movie) they just look at me as if I'm desecrating on the best thing that's ever happened to them.

- He badgers women into dating him and loses interest in a week

I agree soooo much with this! And how he sort of dumped Victoria after giving up her wedding for him... I mean I felt like I wanted to strangle him! He himself was left at the alter, he should know better than doing something like that!

But he has done some things I support, like giving up on Robin for Barney. Yes, I know he sort of got jealous after that, but I can understand that.
#55 to #46 - anon (07/08/2013) [-]
Although it was a bit over the top, he's not really obsessed. When you watch or pay attention to anything that contains a plot you easily pick things up. It's not like you need to analyse each episode multiple times to get this information out of this particular TV series. Also, people have gone nuts for less.

User avatar #70 to #69 - majortomcomics (07/08/2013) [-]
No, that's not why. I don't care if you like MLP. I dislike the majority of them because they shove their fandom down everyone's throats and post irrelevant pictures to just about anything.
#81 to #70 - fistpump (07/08/2013) [-]
So let me get this straight...
You don't like bronies because they cram their opinion down your throat, and post irrelevant comments on things?
Congratulations, friend, you have just done both of those things here, and you weren't even provoked.
What a twist, eh?
User avatar #83 to #81 - majortomcomics (07/08/2013) [-]
As I explained below, it's relevant because he was criticizing the man's analysis on a character for being exaggerated and I simply pointed out that that is what his fandom is based around. Don't reply, I'm trying to watch 28 Days later and all these notifications are interrupting me. Thanks.
#85 to #83 - fistpump (07/08/2013) [-]
You brought up the fandom, he didn't. You used a brony posting an opinion as an opportunity to flame him for shoving opinions down everyone's throats and being generally irrelevant, which is exactly what you did, and he didn't.
***** , I couldn't give a **** if you're watching 28 Days Later. Just close the FunnyJunk tab if you're that bothered...

User avatar #75 to #73 - majortomcomics (07/08/2013) [-]
I never said that's what was done here. It's relevant because he said one thing was the largest over exaggeration, and I corrected him.
#77 to #75 - noodleofrassilon (07/08/2013) [-]
I'm pretty sure there are a lot bigger reactions to specific fictional characters.
But uh, let's just take a moment " You stupid ass bronies"
Seriously, you're being a big ol' dick.
I've watched that show a bit, it was cute, the music was fun, and if I'm bored and it's on the hub I'll turn it on because it's better than most of the cartoons on today. I enjoy the music as well, but I've never been crazy obsessed with it, I even get annoyed with the fans sometimes myself.. but here you just decided to flop around like a big ol dick
User avatar #80 to #77 - majortomcomics (07/08/2013) [-]
I'm not. He shouldn't criticize something for being an over-exaggeration when that's what his fandom is based on.
#82 to #80 - noodleofrassilon (07/08/2013) [-]
He said it was the largest he ever saw.
He didn't say it was dumb
he didn't insult the guy for doing it
he just said it was a big over reaction

You decided to take his passive statement as an opportunity to gobble some **** and spit it out into a hateful comment about a silly fanbase.
User avatar #84 to #82 - majortomcomics (07/08/2013) [-]

People call it "This generation of Friends" but I call it "Friends recycled." It's not a remake of friends, although i do agree that it is more like a modern version. But to me HIMYM is just taking Friends and jumbling up all the characters' personalities and removing 1 character while adding small tweaks to the exposition. Without being too vague you can describe HIMYM while describing Friends. I do understand that they some/most/all of the people who wrote Friends as well so it only makes it worse.

tl;dr read the first sentence
This is just my opinion. You could care less about it and i can care less about yours. Thumb the way you want.

Joey is sorta like Barney, being that he's a womaniser, I guess.
Ross is like Ted, he enjoys work others may consider boring, and keeps having feelings for the same woman.
Chandler is similar to Marshal, kind of. I mean... Not really... He's one of the best friends of the main character, but Chandler is heavily sarcastic, whereas Marshal is quite sweet.
Rachel is similar to Robin. At one point she has feelings for Ross (ergo, Ted) and then has a short fling with Joey (ergo, Barney). Recurring feelings for Ross, occasionally gets a new boyfriend, etc etc.
Monica is similar to Lily, more artistic than academic, in love with Chandler (ergo, Marshal) and... that's really all I got...
Phoebe is bubbly, random, and has relatively short relationships with random people. She's also a musician, and isn't easily offended. She's not really like any of the characters from HIMYM (then again, neither is Monica, really) so I guess it's either Monica of Phoebe...
