correct me if I am wrong, but I think the carpet would get wet and the water would wander through the fabric and make a huge mess.

Some carpet designs you can definitely get a "wumph" sound of an air seal when you drop a cup perfectly upside down. I can definitely see some that would drain slowly. Remember, air has to get in for the water to come out, so if you have a wet seal down at the carpet backing with the cup opening stuffed with piling, I can see it taking maybe up to a minute or two to drain away.

Wouldn't happen on all carpets. But some? Sure.

Now you made me lay on the ground and stare at the carpet just so I could know what type I had. Apparently I have Textured Saxony.

I saw a video a while ago where a guy puts a menu on top of a glass, quickly flips it and takes the menu out instantly. I think that's what they did here and they had a camera at the ready.

but I assume that he put the glass on a table. a table wouldn't suck up the water. unlike a carpet.

Yeah I know, that's why I added in "they had a camera at the ready" I'm not disagreeing. I'm just implying the possibility of how it could have been achieved.
