That 1960's Peace Corps ad was not telling immigrants and the poor to leave cause 'we're too good for you.' It was an ad to get citizens to join the Peace Corps, an organization that went to various nations, particularly those impoverished and some pressured by the Soviet Union, to do volunteer work and help increase the quality of life.

The statue was a gift from the people of France as a sign of international friendship. It is also a sign of freedom. It isn't just a sign representing america, anyone who believes that is a moron.

The designer originally thought of making Lady Egypt, the original designs were made for egypt. That changed and then it was made for america
User avatar #106 to #104 - aceelement ONLINE (07/07/2013) [-]
Besides.... There technically is/was more then one Statue of "liberty"
User avatar #105 to #104 - aceelement ONLINE (07/07/2013) [-]
But it still wasn't a present for Egypt.... It was planned to be but it ended up not being so. Totally different. Egypt still technically never got it.
User avatar #107 to #105 - mads (07/07/2013) [-]
it was initally planned to be a present for egypt though.
User avatar #109 to #107 - aceelement ONLINE (07/07/2013) [-]
But, like I have said ten times before. It was planned YES, but it wasn't ever technically theirs. Egypt never had official claim to it.

My uncle has a picture from when he went to New Nork, the picture is just his middle finger with the statue of liberty behind.

It was awesome, so he put it on facebook, and he got banned...

If you want I'll look for it and post it.

Btw, I ask you. Do you really feel offended by this commercials or I just didn't fell in the sarChasm?
Pic unrelated.

Trust French engineering to think making a statue from a metal that doesn't resist weathing is a good idea.
#12 - anon (07/07/2013) [-]
the statue may be a gift from France, but it was still made by the french, so she's french... you're praising a french woman, she probably has hairy armpits but we cant see
