Dude, I got it

First there's this guy visiting his girlfriend and his father in law. Then they're at the table discussing some stuff. The boy informs he would like to work with music or movies. Then the father sends the girl to retrieve something, maybe beer. Then he goes all demonic and stuff, you might wanna add red eyes for effect, and tells him to stop being a hippie and getting a job etc. Then the girl returns and the dad goes back to normal! Hilarious!

User avatar #26 to #4 - awalkingparadox (07/06/2013) [-]
or, you could do what you want. maybe have a career from school as a backup plan if you'd like to do something bigger.
User avatar #27 to #26 - sanguinesolitude (07/06/2013) [-]
thats well and good if you have your parents money to support you. Otherwise not so much.
User avatar #31 to #27 - awalkingparadox (07/06/2013) [-]
you mean for education or your ambition?
User avatar #38 to #31 - sanguinesolitude (07/06/2013) [-]
either way really. Living is expensive and not everyone has parents who can put them through school, pay rent, buy clothes and food, give money for recreation, etc.

We have a generation of kids that get told "go to school for whatever you want" and then they leave school with useless majors they will never use and which dont prepare them at all for getting a job. I wish someone had been firmer in having me plan out a future in highschool instead of just doing what seemed like fun in college. I'm doing ok, but if i could do it all again i would have done some things differently.
User avatar #43 to #38 - awalkingparadox (07/06/2013) [-]
but what if you got through highschool with qualifications that you need for the career you want, you get older, and you wished you tried to follow your dream and have this career as a backup plan. and i know there are kids out there who have no choice and poorer families, but wether their plan is to stay at school or be unemployed, they can easily be unemployed with a house living off wealthfare/the dole (british people will understand) or they can try their best for a good education, if all goes to worse, they have unemployment to fall to. sure its not great but its something, and same goes for a career and following an ambition.
User avatar #46 to #43 - sanguinesolitude (07/06/2013) [-]
well
A. i would never take welfare unless i were fired and couldnt find work.
B. I suppose if you have a passion and want to follow that sure go do that, but you better be working as well to support yourself.
C. I dont have a dream
#24 - anon (07/06/2013) [-]
He's telling the truth. It's a useless skill to have... seriously. Music and art degrees are the dumbest wastes of money there is. It's so ******* stupid and useless. You'll never find a job with one. What do you call a music major? Unemployed. What do you say to an art graduate? I want a number 5 with no pickles.

Clearly you have no idea how much money private music teachers make.
#55 to #32 - anon (07/06/2013) [-]
Oh yeah because most music majors want to teach music instead of performing it right?
User avatar #62 to #55 - spearpwi ONLINE (07/07/2013) [-]
Most music majors are good at music and know that passing on valuable skills, such as the ability to play a musical instrument or compose a song, is a very good way to make a living. I may not be a music major but I do teach guitar, and I think that if I had that extra education I would be a much better music teacher.
User avatar #36 to #24 - jajathezombie (07/06/2013) [-]
Talent, luck and how hard you're willing to push yourself have a lot to do with it. A good friend of mine was a music major, and when she graduated she almost immediately got a job at a recording studio. But that's because she has the right attitude for the business and she applied to something like 50 places in less than a week.
#54 to #36 - anon (07/06/2013) [-]
No it's almost all completely luck. A lot of people work hard every day of their lives with their skill. You see them on the streets playing their guitar for spare change or painting caricatures for like 10 bucks. All that i'm saying is there are MILLIONS of people out there who are just as good if not BETTER than you. Millions.
User avatar #56 to #54 - jajathezombie (07/06/2013) [-]
And those people probably know next to nothing about what it takes to succeed in a business. That's what music is now: a business. Why do you think there are hundreds of popular "musicians" who don't even know how to play an instrument?

Is tattooing also really bad? You know, when it comes to money and stable income. I mean, since I have some talent within art, I might as well make something out of it yes? I'm young, I have a lot of choices still, but I just want to be sure if it's viable to go for.
User avatar #25 - thatmetalguy (07/06/2013) [-]
I would love to be a musician and make my money off that. Although I know those chances are so slim so my back up is to become and audio engineer and open my own studio. Even if i don't make a lot at least I'll have a fun job.
User avatar #23 - arkytior (07/06/2013) [-]
Don't get a job in something you love because you'll get tired of it and you will start to hate it.
Instead get a job in something that pays well and interests you a bit but the studying part is hard (chemistry, biology, maths, physics, medicine...) - you'll have a secure job and a nice income.
Then you can do what you love in your free time and if you by any chances become a famous (musician, artist, whatever your dream is), you'll be able to do it even if you fail at it a few years later, you still have the previous job.
