I've started to not care anymore.
These ***** fight back, they get the opportunity to fix things for themselves, then what do they do?
Put people in power that make things the exact same way, if not worse.

Clearly they don't like it or else they wouldn't be revolting. At this point now it's pretty much old vs new in Egypt. Let's hope the egyptian people can move on with the rest of this world and finally bring their culture to the 21st century.

Well that's like hoping for the rest of the Middle Eastern region to join the 21st century, I honestly don't think it will be happening for almost another 50 years unless something drastic happens.
As in some major unified change in Islam. It's the only way, otherwise the zealots will live in their old ways forever and just be a general nuisance to the modern world.
User avatar #25 to #23 - nervaaurelius (07/03/2013) [-]
I don't think such changes will occur overnight but I do think the arab spring is one of manyy steps for the middle east to adapt to our modern world. I believe Muslims, like Christians did, will change.
User avatar #26 to #25 - darthblam (07/03/2013) [-]
I do too, but like I said.. I doubt it will be happening for another 50 years, hopefully at least.
It could be another century or more... The sciences and culture have been around them since the same time as Christianity had its time of enlightenment and yet they still cling to old and barbaric ideals that should be dead.

If they still hold on to it now.. who knows when they will finally change?

I do agree with you but we gotta look at history and see the islamic world has made some steps forward and back. There was a time during the Islamic golden age when the middle east was more advanced that Europe especially by preserving the studies of the ancient greeks instead of dismissing it as the work of heathen pagans as the Europeans did. We also have to look at the Ottoman Turks who allowed it's subjects to practice their religion while Spain was killing it's Jewish and Muslim population during the Inquisition. Now granted it wasn't complete religious freedom but by the standards of the era it was pretty progressive.

TL;DR I have hope that Muslims will progress and hopefully not stay in the dark age.

Mhm..
Sucks though, that really all we can do is hope they can make a change from the inside, any sort of external influence just creates chaos and anger amongst themselves and hatred towards everyone else.
Only time will tell.

But all in all, like I said in my first comment, I've started to not care anymore. If they make changes, great, they can finally join the civilized world. If not, I wouldn't care if they all blew themselves to kingdom come... or one of them angering a strong 1st world country enough to blow them up...

Yes it's just best we stay out of it. I believe western influence is just slowing down that process. This has been a good discussion sir farewell to you.
